Chapter 71 Take a look at the legs?
"I won't give you any."
Connors turned around and looked at the small island, in the center of which was a small, man-made structure resembling a Mayan pyramid.
Wonder Woman Diana found Connors's inexplicable remarks rather strange:
"—I didn't say I wanted to eat it, and I don't have that habit."
Zatanna held the flowers Connors had just handed her, and judging from his serious tone, she almost believed him.
She thought for a moment about what Connors said and recalled a scene that had occurred not long ago in front of Arkham Asylum.
When she was spying, Zatanna felt like she knew something.
Ignoring what Zatanna was lost in thought, Connors looked at Wonder Woman Diana:
"Go on, what are you waiting for?"
While he was on horseback, Wonder Woman hid the greatsword somewhere because Connors found it too cumbersome.
Connors suspected that Diana had a magical pocket, something like a spatial ring. He was looking at Diana because he wanted to see for himself where she had pulled out the greatsword and the glowing broken objects.
Wonder Woman Diana did not disappoint Connors, reaching into a small pocket hanging from her waist.
Soon, with her right hand slung over her shoulder and her left hand holding the glowing object given to her by Faust to locate broken parts, Wonder Woman Diana walked toward the pyramid.
The process went more smoothly than anyone could have imagined. Diana climbed to the top of the pyramid, took down a pottery jar, and nothing happened.
"Be careful, the things I got from Batman and Catwoman were all unsealed, so I didn't encounter any danger."
"But like the cylinder in the museum, this thing is sealed in a jar. When I open it, something bad might happen."
"Wonder Woman" Diana kindly reminded her.
The only person she had come into contact with with extraordinary abilities, besides the "Superman" she had seen on TV, was Connors, and she wasn't there to send him to his death.
Wonder Woman Diana wanted an extra ally so that dealing with Faust would be easier when she returned to Paradise Island and she could avoid any unexpected incidents.
As for the rule that "men are not allowed to enter" on Paradise Island, Diana simply ignored it now that all her people had turned to stone.
Rather than rigidly adhering to the rules, she hoped to restore the Amazonian people to their original state in a peaceful and stable manner.
"Don't worry, I won't die easily unless I can't hold back," Connors reassured him.
Even after jumping from a great height, Connors did not recklessly court death. Instead, he took precautions to transfer any potential harm to the indestructible skeleton horse.
"And what about you?" Diana asked Zatanna.
Without saying a word, Zatanna wobbled towards the edge of the island, clearly showing her strong will to survive!
The jar was smashed on the ground with a not-so-crisp sound, and the last item sealed inside was revealed to the two of them.
Before she could even observe, Wonder Woman Diana bent down, picked it up, and swiftly held the greatsword horizontally in front of her.
Her preparations proved correct: a creature with sharp teeth, red eyes, and a pair of fleshy wings on its back...
A demon-like creature, its entire body a muddy gray, appeared beside her without her noticing.
The crimson eyes stared at her intently, sending chills down Wonder Woman Diana's spine. Without a second thought, she swung her greatsword.
But the monster seemed to have seen through her attack route. It simply wiggled its rear to avoid the greatsword's slash, and even touched its chin with a hand covered in sharp claws, continuing to stare at her.
"Connors, where is he?"
Wonder Woman Diana looked around and realized that Connors had disappeared sometime earlier.
His plan to recreate the scene in the museum, throw the items to Connors, and then strike the monster from behind, fell through.
Without a second thought, Diana tossed the object in her left hand high into the air, then rushed to the pyramid, leaped to the top, and opened her magic pouch in mid-air to put it inside.
Strangely, the monster never relentlessly pursued Diana like a statue in a museum; it simply stood still, stroking its chin as if watching Diana's performance.
The monster didn't seem aggressive. Diana tried taking a few steps back, and seeing that it was indeed so, she quickly shouted:
"Connors! Let's go!"
After calling out several times without response, Wonder Woman gritted her teeth, summoned her skeletal warhorse, and attempted to fly into the air to search for the trail from above.
As soon as she summoned the skeleton horse, the monster quickly approached, startling Wonder Woman Diana Vincent, who spurred the horse aside and grabbed the greatsword again.
But no matter how hard she used her greatsword, how fast she went, or how tricky the angle, she couldn't even touch the demon-like monster.
The frustration of having no outlet for her energy fueled Diana's anger, and she sensed a hint of insult from the monster's nonchalant attitude.
Especially when the monster didn't attack her, but instead kept reaching its claws behind it and then pulling them out, Diana was so angry that she gritted her teeth.
Fortunately, after a brief stalemate, the monster seemed unwilling to continue hiding and began to face the greatsword's attacks without dodging or avoiding them.
What frustrates Wonder Woman Diana even more is that strange things keep happening, even when she doesn't dodge them.
The moment the greatsword that wasn't his own struck, it became limp and spongy, like noodles.
The monster's shoulders were like rubber; they would collapse when hit and then bounce back quickly.
Even when Wonder Woman Diana saw the monster stop dodging, she jumped into the air and swung her greatsword horizontally downwards, attempting to crush the monster into a pancake.
The monster did indeed turn into a pancake, but it only stretched its arms and moved its legs before instantly returning to its original shape.
"Damn it, Connors, if you don't show up soon, I'm going to ride my skeletal horse and leave you here." Diana groaned inwardly.
Connors watched as "Wonder Woman" Diana inexplicably grabbed the greatsword and started slashing and hacking at him. He stroked the stubble on his chin and easily dodged the attack.
He was startled when he first saw the long-horned monster standing opposite him, with glowing red eyes, barbs all over its body, dark green fur, and an unusually thick arm.
However, Connors did not rush to take action, after all, he defined himself as an "outsider" who "participated in the event but remained detached from it".
Connors, who habitually used his ability "Athena's Vision" to observe the situation, was shocked to discover that the so-called monster was actually an illusion, and was Wonder Woman Diana herself.
The reason why Diana kept attacking him was obvious; he probably looked like a monster in her eyes.
Strange, my "Athena's Vision" ability comes from the goddess Athena's gift to Diana, so why is she still hitting me even though I can see through the illusion?
Did she forget?
While stroking his chin and pondering the question, Connors effortlessly dodged Diana's series of attacks.
Moreover, Connors took this opportunity to test his abilities, "Master Tom's Teachings," and discovered that he seemed to have grasped some of the essence of this master Tom.
As long as Connors remains indifferent to what is about to happen, he can neutralize non-lethal attacks.
As for the fatal blows that couldn't be averted, such as the one where Diana tried to flatten herself, they were transferred to the heroine's skeleton horse through a reverse "healing magic".
Unfortunately, Connors reached behind him several times but failed to use another of Master Tom's signature abilities: pulling out various props at any time.
Seeing Wonder Woman Diana erupt in a rage for some unknown reason, Connors rubbed his chin again, then began writing on the ground with his toes:
"Let's see the legs? (crossed out)"
"Athena Pose (crossed out)"
"Athena's Vision".
