Mysterious: The Innate Sacred Body of Destiny

Chapter 378 It's him again.
"Those two must be—Klein's brother and sister."
Through the window of the church lounge, Daly looked at the crowd not far away, and the sunlight fell on a simply dressed brother and sister.
The wedding hadn't officially started yet; Dunn and Daly were making final preparations in the back.
"Hmm." Dunn followed her gaze, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes, before slowly nodding.
"Klein—" Daly paused, her voice turning somber, "I know about that incident; you've always felt responsible. In fact, if I hadn't argued with you and insisted on staying in Tingen, perhaps things wouldn't have happened—"
"No—" Dunn suddenly interrupted her, his voice firm and sorrowful.
"That's my responsibility. As the captain, I failed to notice Klein's unusual behavior in time—especially given the presence of an anonymous tip-off at the time—"
"I was too indecisive and too confident in my own judgment."
"But at least in the end no one died, right?" Daly walked to his side, gently took his hand, and comforted him.
She had seen Dunn's self-blame far too often over the past few months. To be honest, she herself had similar feelings. If she hadn't insisted on staying and argued with Dunn, diverting his attention—at least when the Tingen incident broke out, the Night Watch team might not have been without a fighting chance.
Although the Sanctuary's subsequent investigation found that their unusual behavior and emotions were most likely influenced by the sealed artifact that Inszangwill had taken, the incident still weighed heavily on their hearts like a boulder, becoming a lingering shadow.
However, as the more optimistic and resilient of the two, Daly felt obligated to comfort her husband and help him get out of this dark period.
"Well, this is a blessing in disguise—" Dunn grasped her hand in return and nodded.
"Furthermore, according to the detailed investigation conducted by the Sanctuary afterward, wasn't it confirmed that the disaster in Tingen was unrelated to Klein himself?" Daly added.
"Judging from the traces left at the scene, he was fulfilling his duty as a night watchman and protecting the city until the very last moment."
"Indeed, he is a kind and upright person—" Dunn agreed with this view.
In fact, if the final investigation report on the Tingen incident hadn't come out, confirming that Klein was at least an innocent victim in the theft of Saint Selena's ashes in Inszangville, he wouldn't have made up his mind to let go of the past and start a new phase of his life.
"But—the traces of the extraordinary abilities of the remaining sun at the scene, and Klein's mysterious disappearance—there is still no definitive conclusion." He thought of some other unexplained questions.
"Alright, darling. Today is our big day, let's not think about those sad things." Daly gave a bright smile, trying to change the subject.
"That's right, today is a good day." Dunn lowered his head, looking at his wife with tenderness in his eyes.
"Speaking of which, Leonard is really something, he couldn't even make it on such an important day," Daly complained with a smile, as if she had just remembered something.
"The situation in Backlund is much more demanding than here. I heard there have been some serious accidents there recently. It's understandable that Leonard, as a member of the 'Red Gloves,' couldn't make it," Dunn habitually defended his former teammate.
"You always manage to say nice things about him," Daly said with a laugh, reaching out to straighten his bow tie.
"Mr. Lorne?"
Before Lorne could figure out how to greet him naturally, Melissa spotted him in the crowd and called out in surprise.
"Melissa?" Lorne turned around, feigning surprise.
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm here for the wedding," Melissa replied, her gaze somewhat puzzled.
"And you? You too?" she asked in return.
"Yes." Lorne nodded, readily admitting it.
"I'm friends with the newlyweds. I happened to run into them a few days ago, so I was invited to their wedding."
"I see—" Melissa accepted the explanation and did not delve into it further.
"And you? Are you also a friend of the newlyweds?"
"I guess so. They were my brother's former colleagues," Melissa replied.
"Colleague? Your brother also worked at a security company?"
"Did he come today?" Lorne pretended to be interested and wanted to see the other person, looking around.
"No, he—" Melissa lowered her eyes, pursed her lips, and her voice became somewhat dejected.
He disappeared because of work —
"Missing—" Lorne also lowered his head at the right time, suppressing his smile.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked."
Just then, the satchel beside Lorne suddenly moved, making a slight rustling sound.
A round, orange cat poked its head out of the bag, its amber eyes scanning its surroundings. As a "motivational cat," Rachi keenly sensed Melissa's low spirits.
"Meow————"
To be honest, compared to other female humans, Melissa, a simple-minded girl she had met long ago, wasn't particularly disliked. But it was only to the extent of not disliking her.
However, considering that its owner seemed to want to get information from the other party, it had no choice but to sacrifice its good looks and show off its cuteness.
Laki nimbly popped out of the handbag, lightly jumped onto Lorne's arm, and then leaped down, landing steadily in Melissa's arms.
It gently nuzzled Melissa's palm with its fluffy head, making a reassuring gurgling sound in its throat. Then it looked at Melissa innocently with its amber eyes, as if silently comforting her.
Melissa looked at the little one who had suddenly appeared in her arms in surprise, feeling the warm touch from her palm. Her originally depressed mood was instantly healed.
Meow~
"Still so soft." Melissa couldn't help but reach out and ruffle Laki's hair, a faint smile appearing on her lips, her mood improving considerably.
"You seem to have gained a little weight since then."
"Meow!" Rachel meowed in dissatisfaction.
"hey-hey."
Is the ability of an "instigator" to improve one's mood so quickly?
"Laki has developed her abilities quite well without my knowledge," Lorne thought to himself.
"I didn't expect you to bring it along," Melissa asked, holding the orange cat with some surprise.
"Yeah. It's always wanted to come with me, and I'm not comfortable leaving it alone in the hotel."
,"hostel?"
"Well, actually, I came to Tingen this time for work." Lorne repeated the same line about engineers that he had told Mrs. Griffin and the Dunns earlier.
"So you're from Backlund."
"Um."
The atmosphere gradually improved, and Lorne and Melissa started chatting as well.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Lorne learned that the other party's second brother, Klein Moretti, did indeed work for a company called "Blackthorn Security," just like the Smiths. Dunn Smith was also the other party's direct superior.
Klein, on the other hand, went missing unexpectedly during a business trip several months ago.
"Missing? Where did you go missing?" Lorne asked with concern.
"I know some detective friends who might be able to help."
"Thank you for your kindness, but I don't think the detective can be of any help." Melissa shook her head slightly and recited the official version of what happened that the night watchman had fabricated for her.
"It's said to be in the Southern Continent. Klein accepted a mission to excavate and secure ancient artifacts from the Southern Continent. However, on their return journey, they encountered an accident. It's said they were attacked by local indigenous armed forces, and in the chaos, Klein disappeared without a trace—"
Logically it makes sense, but upon closer examination, there are indeed some problems, and it lacks sufficient evidence.
Most importantly, they were nowhere to be found, neither alive nor dead—Lorne thought to himself.
Melissa continued recounting the various experiences she had had over the past few months. Perhaps influenced by Laki's extraordinary abilities, she spoke at length today, as if venting her emotions and wanting to release all the pent-up repression and pain that had accumulated in her heart during this period.
Lorne listened quietly, occasionally responding with a few words of understanding and comfort.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Lorne, I've rambled on about so many irrelevant things—thank you for listening, you're a very good listener." After a long while, Melissa stopped talking and pursed her lips somewhat embarrassedly.
"I'm glad I could help." Lorne smiled gently. "I've always believed that listening is sometimes more powerful than words."
Just then, a commotion suddenly broke out in the crowd.
The church doors were suddenly pushed open forcefully.
Immediately afterwards, a series of rapid, panting breaths could be heard.
"Sorry I'm late! The wedding probably hasn't started yet, has it?"
A handsome young man with messy black hair and emerald green eyes appeared in everyone's sight, panting.
Lorne's lips twitched almost imperceptibly.
Why is it him again?!
