Meanwhile, Evan also stayed up all night, watching the situation unfold nervously through the "Lord of Mysteries" in his mind.

Sure enough, around midnight, the script for 008 changed.

"Surprisingly, Klein realized the influence Ince Zangwell had on him, so he went to Leonard's house that very night to ask him to report Old Neil's problems to Captain Dunn. Leonard agreed."

"This was an unexpected bonus for Ince Zangwell. His attention to Old Neil was just to lay the groundwork for future events and prevent any accidents, but he didn't expect Klein's actions to give him such a great opportunity. Ince Zangwell decided to seize this opportunity."

Dunn, Leonard, and Klein arrived at Old Neil's house. Old Neil was performing a spirit summoning ritual to prolong the time his lover's soul remained in the mortal world, so he did not hear the doorbell.

"Because of Klein's report and Old Neil's refusal to open the door, Dunn mistakenly believed that Old Neil's problem was imminent, so he made a radical choice to directly enter Old Neil's dream and control him to prevent what might happen."

"Dunne was too careless. What Old Neil performed was a ritual taught by the 'Hidden Sage,' a unique spirit summoning ritual that can even corrupt the authority of gods. Although the ritual itself has no offensive power and the officiant is only a Sequence 9, its special nature can cause serious consequences."

"Dunne Smith was struck by the power that interrupted the ritual and was slightly contaminated by the leaked power, which perfectly achieved Ince Zangwell's long-prepared goal."

"Because Riel Bieber has been digesting the potion very smoothly lately, his mental state has greatly improved. This has made him feel guilty about abandoning his mother's body and he wants to retrieve it from the police station for burial. The great descendants of the Antigonus family should all be buried near the Hornach Mountains."

In Lord of Mysteries, the script changes made by 008 leave Evan feeling cold all over; even the July heat couldn't dispel the chill emanating from him.

Evan never expected that his fabricated 008 script, which prompted Klein to advance the mine-clearing operation, would greatly advance Ince Zangwell's plan, adding a stroke of genius to it.

Evan could picture Ince Zangwell's smug and delighted expression.

As for why Riel Bieber's actions changed, Evan could guess the reason: to resolve the Antigonus Family Notes incident as much as possible, eliminate the traces of 008's interference, reduce recent extraordinary events, prevent the Church of the Night from noticing, and at the same time buy time to complete the next arrangements.

Since Dunn's mind has been subtly corrupted, Ince Zangwell's previous arrangements regarding Riel Bieber have become superfluous.

Since Dunn is already considered a mid-level cadre in the entire Church of the Night, if the pollution becomes too severe, it may be discovered by the higher-ups of the Church of the Night.

In the original timeline, Dunn saw the image of the true creator severely damaged in Heinrich Van Clement's dream, but 008 specifically emphasized that this was the reason he was not corrupted by it.

So recently, in order to continue Dunn's mental pollution, 008 would instead "quiet down" the area around the night watchman and make other arrangements, such as with Lanius.

Evan is now in a bit of a bind. He previously discovered that because of his cheat-like abilities, 008 was almost helpless against him. In addition, things have been going very smoothly lately: he joined the Tarot Club, got closer to Klein, received investment from the Goddess of the Night, and got away from the troublesome Tingen.

Things went so smoothly that Evan had the illusion that he was the protagonist of a novel, feeling that he could succeed in everything he did.

So, when Evan only discovered that Old Neil had entered the game, he rashly wrote the 008 script and directed Klein to carry out the "mine clearance" operation. However, he did not expect that doing so would greatly advance the 008 script and make him an actual accomplice of Ince Zangwill, which was hard for Evan to accept.

Evan gritted his teeth, both out of frustration with himself and because it was the first time he had gained a clearer understanding of the world. Sometimes, even with a cheat code, you still have to act cautiously; the world doesn't revolve around one person.

Evan quickly suppressed his emotions and turned to thinking about what he should do in the future.

After much deliberation, Evan decided that he could no longer interfere with the 008 script, at least not for the next month or two.

Because of Evan and Klein's interference, the time when Dunn Smith was contaminated was brought forward by at least a full week.

According to the original script, Klein encountered the arrival of the "Child of the Evil God" half a month after he became the Joker.

Evan was worried that if another accident occurred, which greatly advanced the script between Ince Zangwell and 008, Klein would have to face the offspring of the evil god with the power of Sequence 9 'The Diviner', and he might end up with nothing but ashes.

Evan had at least half of his memories from "Lord of Mysteries" sealed away. He really didn't understand the principle behind Klein's resurrection and was very worried that if even bone fragments were gone from his body, there would still be no possibility of resurrection.

If the main character is gone, Evan will be completely stuck, and the cheat code from Lord of Mysteries in his mind will be mostly useless.

After reviewing the plot again, Evan planned Klein's next actions, with the core requirement being that Klein improve himself as much as possible and speed up the digestion of the potion.

After sorting through the plot, Evan was no longer sleepy. He stood in front of the French windows in his pajamas, looking at the crimson moon in the sky that was different from the one on Earth in his previous life, and sighed deeply.

As Klein cautiously entered the house, intending to sneak into the bedroom and pretend he hadn't left, he ran into Melissa, who was getting up to use the bathroom at night.

"Klein, why are you out so late? What time is it?"

Melissa rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn't hallucinating and asked in surprise, while also glancing at the only clock in the house in the living room.

Klein felt helpless. Melissa rarely got up at night, but he had to catch her today. He could only mumble a reply:

"I couldn't sleep and wanted to go for a walk, but I ran into a colleague from the security company who said that a large number of cultural relics and ancient books had arrived overnight and I needed to do an urgent inventory, so I went to work overtime overnight."

Melissa frowned and looked at Klein, who looked exhausted, and said:

"Then you should go to sleep. You have to go to work tomorrow. Not getting enough rest is bad for your health."

Klein sensed his sister's concern and felt a warmth in his heart before saying:

"Don't worry about me. The security company's leader is very considerate of his subordinates. He gave me a day off with pay. I can have a good night's sleep tomorrow, um, tonight, and I don't have to go to the company."

Melissa was genuinely happy to hear that Klein's boss was so considerate of his subordinates, even giving him paid leave, and that Klein had found such a good job.

"Why did you get up in the middle of the night? Don't you usually sleep through the night?"

Melissa has very good and regular living habits; she is rarely seen getting up in the middle of the night.

Melissa was stunned for a moment, and after a few seconds she was about to explain, but was interrupted by the rumbling of her stomach.

"I just needed to use the restroom, that's all. I'm going back to sleep for a bit. Goodnight!"

After saying that, Melissa blushed, lifted her nightgown, and ran back to her room.

This is a sign of indigestion...

Watching Melissa run off like a rabbit, Klein chuckled to himself, never expecting that Melissa, who always seemed so sensible and obedient, would have this side to her.

But at the same time, a feeling of pity welled up in Klein's heart.

Last night, Evan brought a large cake as dessert.

Melissa may have never eaten this kind of cake before, and because it was so delicious, she ate a bit too much, which caused her digestive system to feel uncomfortable, ultimately leading to indigestion.

"When I get paid in a few days, I must take Melissa out for a nice meal. We need to raise the standard of our meals in the future. We can't let her live such a frugal life anymore."

Klein made up his mind, then returned to his room, lay down on his bed, and slowly fell asleep with a smile on his face.

In any case, for Klein, he once again changed the script of the mastermind, saving Old Neil's life and his own.

The road ahead in fighting the mastermind behind the scenes may still be difficult, but right now Klein is only happy.

When Benson woke up in the morning, he found that Klein had not gotten up yet. He was about to wake him up when Melissa stopped him.

Learning that Klein had worked overtime last night and was taking paid leave today amazed Benson, who was well-versed in the realities of society, and also marveled that Klein had found a good job.

To avoid disturbing Klein, Benson and Melissa didn't cook. They just ate some leftover cake from last night and quietly left the house.

While Klein was still dreaming of leading Benson and Melissa into a detached house like Old Neil's, the scene in his dream suddenly changed, transforming into the interior layout of No. 2 Narcissus Street.

Klein suddenly awoke, realizing that someone had invaded his dream.

Klein subconsciously looked towards the doorway of the room and saw Captain Dunn, with a receding hairline and dressed in a suit, looking at him.

"Captain?" Klein greeted the captain instinctively.

Dunn, his face grave and his voice low, said to Klein:

"Old Neil has just passed away and returned to the goddess's divine realm. You should come to him as soon as possible!"

After saying that, Dunn Smith left Klein's dream, clearly because he still needed to notify the other members who weren't on duty.

Klein was jolted awake from his sleep, utterly incredulous that he had just changed his and Old Neil's destinies and brought his health problems to an end.

According to church regulations, Old Neil was supposed to go to the sanatorium at the headquarters of the Tranquil Church for recuperation. Everything seemed to be developing in a positive direction, so why did Old Neil die?

Klein even wondered if he had just had a nightmare because of his worries, but reason told him that it was all real.
