Chapter 489 Snake Venom

The air was cold, and the moon was still high in the sky.

A faint glow appeared on the distant horizon, indicating that dawn was gradually approaching.

The cleanup operation in Azkaban has temporarily come to an end, and the staff affected by the Dementors have been sent back to land and given three days off to recover.

The prisoners who had left their cells returned to their cells. The Ministry of Magic staff who were counting the prisoners used extremely violent methods, roughly forcing all the prisoners back to their cells. Anyone who disobeyed was immediately beaten.

As for the castle's repairs and subsequent guard arrangements, these will require a complete new plan to be developed after returning to the Ministry of Magic, especially the selection of guards for Azkaban.

The new guards are definitely not going to be any better if they're too weak. If they can't even keep an eye on non-Death Eater prisoners, they might as well just strangle them with a shoelace.

Heavy guarding as before is no longer feasible. Azkaban no longer has Death Eaters, and the importance of the wizard prison is declining. We must use our resources wisely.

As the sky gradually brightened, Belvina stood up and looked towards Azkaban, where the eerie castle cast a large shadow.

After giving a brief explanation of the precautions, Belvina Apparated back to London, appearing at the entrance of St. Mungo's Asylum of Magical Injuries.

In the last six months, she has visited St. Mungo more times than she has in the entire previous ten years combined.

On the wide street in front of St. Mungo's, the shops on both sides still retain their Christmas decorations, but only the windows of St. Mungo's are covered with a thick layer of dust.

The sign for renovations was still so conspicuous, and the mannequins in the window were still so ugly. Today's St. Mungo was not much different from yesterday's St. Mungo, but for Belvina, it was completely different.

As she passed the waiting room, Belvina stopped in front of a portrait of a witch.

The witch in the portrait is Delis de Winter, who was a healer at St. Mungo's before becoming the headmaster of Hogwarts.

"You really did come." The portrait of Delis de Winter blinked. "Dumbledore said you would definitely come to St. Mungo after you left Azkaban."

"So, what are your orders, Dumbledore?" Belvina asked. She had visited St. Mungo's so many times, but the portrait of Delis de Winter had only waved to her today.

"What a clever child!" said Delis de Winter. "Dumbledore said you should stay in London today, and he will come looking for you."

If Delis de Winter were alive today, she would be at least three hundred years old, and her elder-like tone wouldn't sound tiresome.

"Okay, I understand," Belvina said. "Anything else?"

Delis de Winter shook her head, then closed her eyes and went to sleep.

The life of a portrait painter can sometimes be quite enviable. After staying up all night, Belvina went to the information desk and woke up the St. Mungo staff who were fast asleep.

The plump, blonde witch opened her eyes with displeasure, but her morning grumpiness vanished the moment she saw who it was.

"Sol Crocker and Broderick Bode, which room are they in?" Belvina asked.

"Second floor, the critical care ward of the Biological Injury Department, Miss Black." The plump blonde witch put on a smile; she dared not offend a high-ranking official of the Ministry of Magic.

"Thank you," Belvina said politely.

After passing through the double doors and down the corridor lined with portraits of healers, Belvina saw the Ministry of Magic personnel at the top of the stairs.

Upon climbing the stairs, the Biological Injury Department on the second floor smelled extremely unpleasant; the odor of patients' wounds mingled with the smell of various magical potions, making one's stomach churn.

Outside the intensive care unit, Ministry of Magic staff stood guard vigilantly. Healers in green uniforms went in and out, and a strong smell of blood wafted from the unit, even masking the stench in the corridor.

Upon seeing Belvina approaching, Melanie Smith immediately went to greet her.

"Miss Black, Crocker and Bode are not doing well," Melanie said. "Their wounds won't heal, and the bleeding won't stop."

As a striker in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Melanie Smith had participated in the operation to protect Harry and was one of the survivors of the Magnolia Drive massacre.

Last night, Melanie Smith did not participate in the operation to support Azkaban, but instead stayed at the Ministry of Magic to guard the office.

"By the way, Crocker and Bode were bitten by a big snake," Melanie said in a low voice.

Last night, a group of dark wizards, led by Death Eaters, broke into the poorly guarded offices of the Ministry of Magic. Their objective was clear: to head straight for the Department of Mysteries.

Fortunately, the Ministry of Magic's guards were alert enough to detect the intruding Death Eaters and dark wizards in time and issue an alarm.

Soon, Amelia, who had stayed behind in the office to keep watch, led her men to stop the group of Death Eaters and dark wizards, and a melee broke out between the two sides outside the Department of Mysteries.

While Amelia and the guards were distracted by the Death Eaters, a giant serpent sneaked into the Department of Mysteries, slipped into the Hall of Prophecy, and attempted to steal the crucial Prophecy Orb.

Fortunately, Dumbledore arrived in time, preventing the giant snake from sneaking into the Hall of Prophecy and saving Crook and Bode from dying like Glen Hawke.

After hearing Melanie Smith's account, Belvina raised an eyebrow. She had seen the giant snake that had infiltrated the Department of Mysteries the previous night, right there in Riddle House and the cemetery in Little Hangleton.

Even back in Little Hangleton, Belvina realized this giant snake was no ordinary creature, but she still underestimated its weight.

Importance.

"The Death Eaters and the dark wizard have been captured," Melanie Smith continued. "The minister knocked out the leader of the Death Eaters, a wizard named Gibbon."

On the Ministry of Magic's side, one Humpe-on was dead and two were seriously injured. On Voldemort's side, neither the Death Eaters nor the Dark Wizard escaped.

Belvina and Melanie stopped talking and looked at the approaching therapist.

"I am the lead healer, Hibbkrat Smeesik," the healer in the green uniform said, looking at Belvina.

"Hello," Belvina said. "Belvina Black."

“Miss Black,” Hibbclat Smysik said, “both patients were bitten by venomous snakes, whose venom contains a special component that prevents the wound from healing.”

The lead therapist from the Biological Bites Department described the injuries of Crook and Bode.

The two taciturn men survived, but their wounds failed to heal, and they had to continue taking blood-tonifying medication to prevent them from dying from excessive blood loss.

"Miss Black, don't worry too much. We've seen many cases far worse than Crook and Bode's. We'll find an antidote soon to neutralize the special components in the venom."

Having said that, the lead healer, Hibbkrat Smysik, hurriedly left, presumably to search for the venom's components.

He still went to call for reinforcements. Hopefully, Smysek will keep his word and find a cure as soon as possible.

At this moment, Crocker and Bode, who had been bitten by the venomous snake, had not yet woken up, and even if they did, it was best not to disturb them too much.

Belvina did not linger at the creature-bitten Cordo, but turned to visit the others who had been brought to St. Mungo the previous night.

When Belvina left St. Mungo, it was already daylight, and the London morning felt particularly cold.

What's colder than a winter morning is the Ministry of Magic's public statement this morning.

"I must regretfully confirm that the black wizard who called himself the Demon King has been resurrected and returned to us."

5"

The words of the current Minister of Magic, Amelia Burns, startled the still-sleepy reporters, and the photographer from the Daily Prophet even dropped his camera.

"I report with the same regret that a dark wizard calling himself the Dark Lord attacked Azkaban last night, and eleven serious criminals escaped. At the same time, the Dementors of Azkaban have staged a mass rebellion and are now serving the dark wizard who calls himself the Dark Lord."

The minister's first message was explosive enough; she confirmed that Voldemort had returned, shattering the public's last shred of hope.

Even more explosive news followed: the Dementors rebelled en masse, a large-scale prison break occurred, and Azkaban was attacked by Voldemort—the reporters present were completely stunned; this was truly a cataclysmic event.

After a brief moment of bewilderment, the reporters present were filled with panic. The fact that the Ministry of Magic had not tried to cover up the truth could only mean that the Ministry had suffered heavy losses and could not cover it up even if it wanted to!
