Chapter 80 Animagus
Animagus is one of the greatest achievements in human transfiguration.
It can transform a wizard into a specific non-magical animal, making it easier to conceal their identity or lie in wait.
To perform the Animagus transformation, one must hold a mandrake leaf in their mouth for a full month (from one full moon to the next). The leaf cannot be swallowed or removed from the mouth during this time. If the leaf leaves the mouth, the entire process must be restarted.
On the second full moon, take out the leaf, fill a small crystal bottle with saliva, and soak the leaf in it, allowing it to receive the pure moonlight. (If the night is cloudy, you will have to find a new mandrake leaf and start over.)
Add a strand of your own hair and a silver teaspoon of dew to the crystal vial that shines in the moonlight. The dew must be collected from a place that has not seen sunlight or been touched by humans for seven whole days.
Finally, add a pupa of a hawk moth, and place this mixture in a quiet, dark place until the next thunderstorm. It should not be seen or disturbed in Middle-earth.
The entire process involves a great deal of luck, and the waiting time can be as long as weeks, months, or even years.
Therefore, very few people in the magical world can successfully transform into Animagus.
However, Dui was very confident in his luck, so after obtaining the Animagus transformation, he was very curious about what kind of animal he could transform into.
Dui looked at the full moon in the sky through the skylight and felt that his luck was on his side.
He immediately took out a mandrake from his spatial bag, plucked the tenderest new leaf, and placed it under his tongue.
Although it feels a little strange, it doesn't really affect my speaking or eating.
Dui then lay back down. After climbing the mountain for so long and going through several battles, he was so tired that he could fall asleep as soon as he lay down.
As for the giant bear outside, Dui knew it was the skin-changing man Beon, a decent character.
So unlike the dwarves who were tense and worried, they, like Gandalf, calmly let themselves fall into a deep sleep.
The next day, everyone gradually woke up.
Peeking through the crack in the door, the giant bear outside was gone; only a very tall man was there, wielding an axe and chopping firewood.
Seeing this, Gandalf told the dwarves to stay in the house until he gave them a signal, and then they went out again in pairs.
This is simply because the owner of this place has no affection for the dwarves.
Then he walked out the door with Dui and Bilbo.
"Gandalf, you seem a little nervous?"
Bilbo asked, puzzled.
"Nonsense, why would I be nervous?"
Gandalf shook his head in denial.
Dui looked at the somewhat uncomfortable Gandalf with amusement.
Yesterday they forcibly occupied someone's house and even blocked the owner from entering. Now that they've finally met the owner, they're feeling quite awkward.
The three of them dawdled as they approached the three-meter-tall man.
The man was extremely tall, with black hair and a thick black beard, broad shoulders, and an exposed upper body. His strong, well-developed muscles bulged as he swung his giant axe, splitting a thick wooden stake in two with a single blow.
He seemed oblivious to the arrival of Dui, Gandalf, and the other two, and went about chopping wood as if nothing had happened.
"Ahem... uh, good morning!" Gandalf greeted him first.
The man didn't turn around and continued chopping wood.
"Good morning!" Gandalf called out again, raising his voice.
The man stopped this time, gripped his giant axe, turned around, and glared at them coldly, looking as if he was about to chop them up like firewood at any moment.
Who are you?
"I am Gandalf, Gandalf the Grey."
"This is Duir in black robes, and this is Bilbo Baggins."
Gandalf introduced them one by one.
"Never heard of it," the man said coldly, showing no respect whatsoever.
Gandalf's throat tightened instantly, and he explained again, "Perhaps you've heard of Darrigaster? He lives on the western edge of Mirkwood."
What do you want?
"It was just to thank you for your hospitality," Gandalf said without any embarrassment. "You may have noticed, we hid in your room last night."
"Two wizards and a halfling, what brings you here?" The man looked at the three of them with a suspicious and scrutinizing gaze.
"Well, it's a long story. It's all the fault of those orcs in the mountains. They harassed us for ages. Luckily, Duir killed Azog, which allowed us to get here safely..."
"Who did you say was killed?" The man instantly became agitated, rushing straight to Gandalf and grabbing him by the collar to interrogate him.
Gandalf quickly stepped back a few paces and presented Dui.
"You heard me right, Mr. Beorn. Azog is dead. He was killed just yesterday by this black-robed wizard, Duir, standing before you."
Beon's gaze instantly shifted to Dui, his sharp and wild eyes staring straight at him.
"Is what he said true?"
Dui shrugged, meeting his gaze without flinching. "You can't lie about something like this, since lies are easily exposed, aren't they?"
Beon stared at him for a long while before withdrawing his oppressive aura and revealing a less-than-pleasant smile.
"I trust you."
"The orcs are my enemies, but you killed their leader, so you're my friend!"
Just then, the dwarves inside the house mistakenly thought they had received Gandalf's signal and came out in pairs.
The previously amiable Beorn suddenly changed his expression, grabbed his giant axe, and glared fiercely at the dwarf.
"You even brought dwarves with you!"
"Well, I have to confess something... some of us are actually dwarves..." Gandalf explained awkwardly.
"How many do you call these dwarves?" Beon questioned.
"Actually, there are only thirteen dwarves, not many..."
But in the end, Beon did not take action against the dwarves.
"I hate dwarves; they are greedy and blind, but I hate Orks even more."
"My people were the first inhabitants of the mountains, but then the Orks came down from the north, and the blasphemer Azog almost wiped out my family. Now I am the only one left."
"You are being hunted by the Orks. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. I will allow you to stay here."
Beon invited everyone back into the house, where they were treated to bread, milk, and honey.
However, compared to the dwarves' somewhat cold attitude, Beon was very friendly to Dui, inviting him to sit in the seat closest to him, and then patiently inquired about Dui's account of killing Azog.
Gandalf, sitting on the other side of Beorn, would occasionally add some of these points.
Through conversations with Beon, Dui gradually gained a better understanding of him.
Beon can not only transform into a giant bear, but also communicate with animals by growling.
So, in addition to him, there were some animal servants in the entire estate, including four white horses, several grey dogs, a large charcoal-black ram, and several snow-white sheep.
In addition, there were cows, chickens, mice, bees, and so on, all of whom obeyed Beon's orders and had their own tasks.
It looks just like an animal kingdom.
Everyone was shocked by this scene.
Dui was filled with envy.
Beorn's abilities are very similar to those of the legendary druids; he can not only transform into a giant bear, but also communicate with animals.
Keep in mind that he currently only knows Parseltongue, which is far inferior to Beorn's abilities.
More importantly, Dui has now begun practicing Animagus transformations, but even if he succeeds, he will only transform into an ordinary animal.
The giant bear that Beon transformed into was not only enormous, but also incredibly strong and defensively powerful, exceeding the capabilities of ordinary bears.
If given the chance, Dui would love to investigate the secret of Beon's transformation into a bear.
Could he combine it with his own Animagus to become the first wizard in history to transform into a magical creature?
Of course, the prerequisite is that he first successfully masters the Animagus transformation.
