Apocalypse, then transforming into a magical girl

Chapter 3 Miracles and Magic Both Exist

When Xia Zhaozhao's magical girl identity was revealed and she was seen in this outfit, she looked somewhat embarrassed.

The monster seemed stunned for a moment by the sudden transformation, but as soon as she finished transforming, it roared and pounced on her again.

The corridor was narrow, only about three steps wide. Conventional movements like slashing and sweeping were completely impossible. She snapped back to reality instantly, and instead of using the blade to parry the monster's attacks, her left hand swiftly slid towards the part of the greatsword near the hilt.

It wasn't a chop, it was a push! Xia Zhaozhao took half a step forward, standing guard in front of Zhao Jia's half-open door. Using her left hand as a fulcrum and her right hand tightly gripping the end of the sword hilt, she used the thick blade to block one of the monster's limbs. With the strength of both hands, she pushed the monster back several steps!

Then, she twisted her right hand, quickly adjusting the direction of the sword. The tip of the sword, like a venomous snake's tongue, pierced directly into the tissue on the monster's body that resembled an eye, causing the monster to let out a terrifying shriek and its body to shrink back again.

Taking this opportunity, she turned her head slightly, her eyes, now red, looking at Zhao Jia.

"Um... close the door, I'll handle it," she said softly.

Zhao Jia was still in shock and mechanically closed the door.

It wasn't some vague, wishful thinking, nor a self-comforting fantasy, but a real, tangible... magical girl fighting right in front of him?

Old Qian... that Old Qian who went crazy from reading urban legends... is what he said true?

A surge of hope welled up within me.

Outside the door, the clang of metal rang out.

Zhao Jia observed the battle situation through the cat's eye.

The monster's appearance was indeed terrifying, but its attack methods were chaotic and primitive, even somewhat contradictory. It seemed not to have adapted to this place, but rather to act on instincts from other worlds.

The tentacles danced wildly, splattering slime everywhere, yet Xia Zhaozhao easily dodged them time and time again.

The silver figure weaved through the corridor, slicing off pieces of the monster's flesh like a dance. The falling chunks of flesh lost their vitality, writhing on the ground as they gradually disintegrated.

However, due to the extremely narrow space in the corridor, the two-handed sword, which was longer than her, was severely limited in its maneuverability.

Most of the time, she had to hold the sword in a way that involved gripping the middle of the blade, making the greatsword feel like a heavy dagger, unable to unleash its full destructive power.

"Tsk, what a nuisance." She scoffed impatiently.

What troubled her was the monster's regenerative abilities.

The shards that were cut off would wriggle a few times after falling before completely losing their vitality. The monster itself was also a shapeless, constantly writhing mass of rotten flesh, making it extremely incompatible with the greatsword in her hand.

God knows when this fighting will end.

Zhao Jia saw Xia Zhaozhao's predicament through the peephole. He was a little anxious, but when his gaze fell on the colorful insecticide spray can, a bold idea flashed through his mind.

No matter how bizarre that thing may be, it appears to be made up of some kind of organic matter, and perhaps... it's afraid of fire?

He immediately sprang into action, rushed into the kitchen, found the lighter he had used to light the gas stove, then retreated to the doorway, grabbed the insecticide, and looked out the window at the battle raging outside.

Xia Zhaozhao made a precise parry and then used her sword to knock the monster away, forcing it to retreat a few steps, just away from his doorway.

Zhao Jia no longer hesitated, now is the time!

He suddenly twisted the lock and pulled the door open a crack just big enough for him to squeeze through.

"Zhaozhao! Move aside!"

"What are you doing out here?" Xia Zhaozhao was a little surprised, but upon hearing the question, she reflexively took a step to the side towards the stairwell, giving Zhao Jia room to maneuver.

Zhao Jia raised the insecticide can with his right hand and clicked the lighter with his left thumb. Without hesitation, he aimed the nozzle at the flame and pressed the spray button hard!

After the white mist was sprayed out, it burst into flames the moment it came into contact with the flame, and a tongue of fire nearly half a meter long suddenly shot out, turning the insecticide can into a simple flamethrower.

Zhao Jia took a big step forward and aimed the flames directly at the monster's body!

Flames licked its sticky, slippery surface, sizzling and burning. The parts touched by the fire quickly charred, the tissue began to disintegrate, and a nauseating burnt smell wafted out.

The creature let out a roar that seemed to be filled with fear, its attack abruptly interrupted, and it retreated sharply, trying to escape the range of the flames.

"here you go!"

Xia Zhaozhao instantly understood, seized the moment when the monster was stunned, roared, gripped her greatsword tightly with both hands, and thrust it swiftly into the monster's body!

This time, she felt something was different. It was no longer the sluggish feeling of cutting into viscous colloid, but rather like piercing a piece of inferior leather. The monster's activity seemed to have been greatly reduced under the scorching of the flames.

Xia Zhaozhao flicked her wrist, twisting the blade and slicing the monster's body horizontally! This time, its wound did not heal, and its body, now split in two, lost the ability to continue attacking Xia Zhaozhao.

The flames continued to spray towards the monster. With Xia Zhaozhao's attacks, the monster's twisted body gradually shrank, quickly losing its shape and luster, and finally turned into a black, foul-smelling corpse.

The battle was over, and the corridor was temporarily quiet.

Zhao Jia was still breathing heavily, shaken. Xia Zhaozhao turned around and looked at him with undisguised surprise in her eyes.

"Wow, that's amazing! You can use insecticide like that?"

"How did you come up with the idea that fire has a special effect against this thing? Did you exploit a bug in a game to gain experience points?"

Xia Zhaozhao clicked her tongue in amazement, then kicked the stinking corpse to the other side of the corridor, in front of the door of the old man who had offended her.

"Put that aside... there really are magical girls! You're a magical girl?!"

Zhao Jia looked at Xia Zhaozhao with eyes filled with unbelievable admiration and the ecstatic joy of surviving a disaster.

He leaned forward, his voice trembling with excitement: "Do you usually fight monsters like this? That's amazing, Zhao Zhao, I'm counting on you from now on!"

However, Zhao Jia's gaze made Xia Zhaozhao's slightly relaxed mood, which had been eased by the victory, become complicated again. She looked at Zhao Jia's face, which was full of admiration, and felt somewhat embarrassed.

She tightened her grip on the sword hilt, turned her head slightly to avoid the burning gaze filled with intense hope, and answered softly.

"I was forced to work this time... I don't usually fight much..." She paused, seemingly organizing her thoughts.

"I don't know what this is either. Our previous enemies... didn't look this disgusting."

Zhao Jia's smile froze for a moment.

"And...and I can't protect you either."

"My eighteenth birthday is the day after tomorrow."

Zhao Jia was stunned, not understanding the connection between the two events.

"Magical girl contracts are usually only signed until adulthood."
