Chapter 937 Core Relics
Chapter 937 Core Relics
Jack followed a black giant priest through the busy excavation site.
In five years, the entire forbidden area has been completely transformed.
The pit walls were vertically cut, revealing layers upon layers of rock, each marked with runes of different colors. These were indexes used by the black giant priests to record geological ages and the distribution of relics.
The ruins of the building complex at the bottom of the pit resemble an anthill that has been overturned, with dense stone structures layered one on top of another, extending from the edge to the center.
The black giant priest led Jack down a makeshift metal walkway, through layers of ruins, and finally stopped in front of a giant building covered by a semi-transparent energy shield.
Jemin walked out of the building entrance, looking as if he had just finished an excavation of the ruins, his robes covered in dust.
"Teacher, everyone in this plane has been rescued." Jack bowed to Jemin.
"Here you are." Jemin nodded to Jack.
"The mission was well completed, and you've arrived at the perfect time. The excavation of this core site is in its final stage. The final exploration can begin in a couple of days."
"The core ruins?" Jack looked around at the densely packed buildings. "None of these?"
"These are just the outer perimeter." Jemin pointed to the ground. "The real core is deeper beneath this building."
"What I dug out before were just surface remains; there wasn't much useful stuff inside. The truly important things are all deep inside."
"You'll come in with me then, it'll broaden your horizons."
Jack nodded instinctively: "Yes!"
half a month later.
Jack followed behind Jemin through a metal passage that had been cleared by the Black Giant priests.
The walls of the passage were completely different from the stone structures in the previous ruins; they were cast from a silver-gray alloy.
Jemin reached out and pointed to a ball of light, which illuminated the entire corridor with a soft white light, allowing Jack to see more clearly.
"This is the public relocation area for the ruins."
As Jemin walked, his voice echoed through the corridor: "We only just figured out how it works a couple of days ago. To put it simply, it's a spatial teleportation system, but the technology is completely different from our wizarding teleportation. They use a kind of point-to-point teleportation based on material resonance, which can only be used inside the ruins, but the advantage is that it is completely unaffected by the rules of external space."
Jack followed behind, his footsteps echoing crisply on the metal floor.
His gaze swept across the wall, where some fluorescent lights seemed to pulsate slightly as they moved forward, as if responding to some unseen signal.
As Jack felt a moment of dizziness, a cloud of black mist suddenly appeared in front of the two of them.
It seeped out from the darkness at the end of the corridor, like a drop of thick ink falling into clear water, rapidly expanding until it formed a blurry human-shaped outline.
The humanoid figure has no facial features or extra details; it is simply a pure black silhouette.
But Jack instinctively felt a chill run down his spine: "What is that?!"
"It must be the security system. I didn't expect it to still be functioning properly after all these years."
Upon seeing this, Jemin raised his hand and unleashed a beam of devastation.
A beam of blazing white light pierced through the black mist humanoid, blasting a hole in its chest.
But the hole was quickly filled by the black mist, and the humanoid figure seemed completely unaffected, continuing to drift forward.
After thinking for a moment, Jemin raised his hand, and several chains made of elements appeared out of thin air, locking towards the figure. However, they still passed directly through the black mist that composed it, without playing any role in blocking it.
"Energy immunity?" Jemin raised an eyebrow.
So when the black mist humanoid approached, he raised his fist without hesitation and punched it into the head!
The fist pierced through the black mist with terrifying force, but the sensation was like hitting a cold, damp cloud.
The black mist humanoid figure dispersed from around the fist and then reassembled behind it, remaining completely unharmed and ignoring the wind generated by the force of the punch.
"There's also physical immunity?" Jemin raised an eyebrow again.
Just as Jemin was pondering, the black mist humanoid pounced on him.
Its body touched Jemin's robe, and a strange power drilled into Jemin's body through the point of contact, attempting to invade his soul along the spiritual connection of the puppet's body.
Jemin's body-forging technique automatically operated on the outer edge of his mental sea, and the resistance layer, which had been tempered countless times, directly crushed the invading force.
"I see." Jemin took a step back, distancing himself from the black mist humanoid.
Sensing the nature of this power, he understood the origin of the other party.
His True Delusion-Piercing Eyes activated, analyzing the opponent's energy structure layer by layer: "The guardian of this ruin is actually a curse. This thing is a manifestation of a group of curses, a collection of curses—I see, so that's how it is. As long as this ruin is not destroyed, it can theoretically be immune to all attacks."
As he spoke, he continued to resist the attacks of the black mist humanoid.
That thing was indeed quite damaging; every touch would attempt to invade the mind's sea. Even standing at a distance, Jack could feel the malice spreading towards him.
"This thing is quite lethal. Theoretically, this level of damage is enough to affect a level seven wizard."
At this point, a smile crept onto his lips: "—But that's only in theory."
The black mist humanoid figure lunged at them again.
Jemin extended his right hand and gently tapped the air with his index finger.
His mental energy condensed into an extremely subtle rune at his fingertips. The rune flew into the core area of the black mist humanoid and exploded silently there.
The black mist figure's movements suddenly froze, then vanished into thin air like a popped soap bubble.
Jack stared blankly into the empty corridor: "That was—"
"I destroyed the basic elements that constitute this curse." Jemin withdrew his hand and began to explain to Jack, "Curses might be difficult for creatures from other civilizations to deal with, but they're too easy for wizards."
"Wizards can control the elements, and everything in the world is made up of four basic elements. Curses are no exception. Their outward manifestations may be black mist, illusions, or some incomprehensible strange phenomenon, but their underlying structure is also elements. Once you find that elemental structure, you can destroy it directly."
He continued walking forward, and Jack quickly followed.
"The existing curse techniques of the wizarding civilization are basically designed to exploit the concealment of the curse itself or its strong correlation with certain things to cause harm. Apart from that, other fancy curses have long been eliminated," Jemin said as he walked.
"Because given enough time, even the most complex curse can be easily erased by breaking down its basic elements. The underlying structure of that guardian curse was more complex than most curses, but it was essentially the same."
"Oh...I see..."
Jack followed behind, his eyes filled with deep shock.
