Chapter 343 Du Mu: Not bad, how about today?

Not long after, the creepy background music finally stopped.

In the regular wards of Arkham Asylum, not a single active prisoner can be seen.

The bodies of prisoners lay scattered on the ground, shell casings mixed with pools of blood, and the smell of gunpowder and blood mingled in the air, making one's nose sting.

The prisoners who survived by sheer luck all huddled in the corners of their cells, barely daring to breathe, fearing that the madman with the Gatling gun wouldn't be satisfied with killing them all and would turn around and kick open the cell doors one by one to wipe them out as well.

These guys used to spend all their time figuring out how to pick locks and escape, but now they just hate that the cell doors aren't sturdy enough and wish they could weld ten bolts onto them.

Du Mu casually placed the Gatling gun on the ground and glanced at the mini-map.

Most of the red dots have returned to their cells, with only a few remaining in the deeper parts of the building.

He had seen the architectural drawings Gordon showed him; that area should be Arkham's intensive care unit, the core area with the highest security level and the most dangerous place for the prisoners in the entire building.

However, he prefers to call it Batman's rare Pokémon showroom.

Almost every supervillain with even a slight reputation in Gotham has been personally sent there by Batman, like a stamp collection. If you didn't know better, you'd think the Dark Knight had some kind of peculiar hobby of collecting all the criminals in the collection.

Du Mu walked down the stairs, his footsteps echoing in the narrow corridor.

At the end of the stairs was an incredibly heavy iron door, which had been violently damaged and was now wide open and leaning to one side.

He stepped over the threshold and went inside. The intensive care unit and the regular ward outside were completely different worlds.

The lighting here is even dimmer. Each cell is an independently reinforced structure with double-layered solid steel plates embedded in the walls. Even the ventilation grilles above are densely covered with three layers of protective netting, with mesh so fine that even a cockroach can't squeeze through.

On the wall next to each cell door, there is a metal plaque with the detainee's code name engraved on it.

Du Mu walked slowly down the corridor, his gaze sweeping over the names on the nameplates one by one.

Clown, Riddler, Two-Face, Scarecrow...

Looking at the list of names, they were all well-known figures in Gotham's criminal underworld, and also Batman's most loyal fan base.

However, the steel doors of these cells were all wide open, and the prisoners inside had long since disappeared, leaving only empty cells.

"Bat Boy is probably going to be running around like crazy tonight."

Du Mu muttered something under his breath, his tone tinged with schadenfreude.

However, this matter has little to do with him. After all, his mission is only to suppress the internal riots in Arkham Asylum. As for Gotham outside, even if it is in complete chaos, it will not affect his mission evaluation.

He pulled his gaze away from the empty cell whose walls were covered with grotesque smiling faces, and continued walking forward.

Just as I took my third step, a long, thin black shadow suddenly darted out from the shadows around the corner of the corridor, moving with incredible speed.

The man held a dagger in each hand, the blades twisting towards Du Mu's neck from left and right. His movements were swift, precise, and ruthless, without a single superfluous motion; his attack was aimed directly at a fatal spot.

Du Mu remained completely calm, leaning back at a precise angle. The two daggers grazed his chin without even touching his skin.

Seeing that his attack had missed, the attacker did not continue the pursuit and immediately retreated.

Du Mu steadied himself and looked at the other person.

This is a man who is naked from the waist up. He is so thin that he looks like a clothesline pole, and his body is covered with dense scars, with almost no intact skin visible.

If someone with trypophobia saw this, they would get goosebumps on the spot.

His name was Victor Zass, known as Mr. Zass, a notorious serial killer in Gotham and a regular at the intensive care unit of Arkham Asylum.

He was a typical mentally ill criminal who believed that life was meaningless and that death was the only true relief.

Therefore, he killed people everywhere, claiming it was to help them escape from nothingness.

Moreover, he was a knife enthusiast. Every time he took a life, he would carve a mark on his body as a memento. Over the years, the marks became what they are now.

Compared to those famous supervillains, he had little presence and no superpowers. His advantage lay in his exceptionally stable mental state, which remained unchanged for ten years. This allowed him to be admitted to Arkham Asylum, a prestigious institution of higher learning.

Zas had been hiding here for a long time, just waiting for Du Mu to come to him so he could launch a fatal attack.

He never expected that his long-planned surprise attack would be so easily evaded by Du Mu.

"Heh heh, another good prey has been delivered to me. I was right to stay here."

Zas's eyes were fixed on Du Mu, a sickly smile spreading across his face. He stuck out his tongue and licked the blade of the dagger, drawing a thin strand of saliva from the tip of his tongue to the blade.

It's clear that at least this dagger wasn't coated with poison.

He tapped the layered scars on his chest with the tip of his knife, his chin slightly raised, his expression revealing an irrepressible sense of pride.

"Do you want to know what these are?"

"In no mood."

Du Mu answered decisively.

Zas:

'

""

Why isn't this guy following the script?

He paused for less than a second, then pretended not to hear and continued, "These are all my achievements. Every time I kill someone and help them find peace through death, I make a cut on my body to record my great contribution. What you see here are all people I have helped."

Looking at the crisscrossing scars on Zhas's body, Du Mu casually asked, "How many people did you kill?"

Zhas thought Du Mu was frightened and said smugly, "Three hundred and forty people."

Du Mu nodded in approval: "Not bad, how about today?"

Zas: "???"

What does that mean?

Before he could speak, a beast-like roar suddenly erupted from the end of the corridor.

"roar!!"

Du Mu looked in the direction of the sound and saw a giant figure suddenly rush out from the shadows at the corner of the corridor.

The person was over two meters tall, with a skull much narrower and longer than that of an average person, a mouth and nose that protruded noticeably, and his body was covered with dark green keratinous scales, arranged neatly one after another, like a naturally formed armored stomach.

He roared, his mouth stretching almost to his ears, revealing a dense array of serrated teeth on his upper and lower jaws.

Killer Crocodile.

One of Gotham's notorious villains, he lives up to his name, looking like an alligator and possessing abilities similar to an alligator.

He was born with an extremely rare atavistic disease, which caused him to become this half-human, half-crocodile.

As for why the atavism would result in turning into a crocodile.

Don't ask, it's just part of the setup.

Killer Croc is a classic power-type brute, the kind who maxes out physical strength but forgets to invest in intelligence. As a result, he is often tricked by other supervillains into becoming a tool, serving as cannon fodder in the fight against Batman.

Of course, this kind of brute is no match for Batman. Batman always plays him like a fool and makes him run around in circles. Occasionally, when Batman is too lazy to use his brain, he will just fight him hand-to-hand and beat him up.

Right now, the killer crocodile is lunging straight at Du Mu, spreading its two thick arms, trying to grab him.

Du Mu didn't intend to take the attack head-on. He rolled to the side to dodge it, then drew his two ordinary pistols from his waist and fired them repeatedly at Killer Crocodile.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang one!

The bullets hit the killer crocodile, sending its scales flying and scattering a few sparks.

The killer crocodile was unharmed and turned around with another roar.

Seeing this, Du Mu pulled two grenades from his crotch, removed the safety pins, and threw them over.

Zas had already wisely run away the moment Killer Croc charged out, while Killer Croc, that silly goose, remained standing still.

Boom! Boom!

Two bursts of fire exploded in the corridor, engulfing the killer crocodile.

"roar!"

However, before the smoke had cleared, another roar erupted from the center of the smoke.

The killer crocodile burst out of the smoke and dust, not a single scale on its body broken, and headed straight for Du Mu.

Du Mu couldn't help but complain: "It's completely illogical that Batman could fight this thing hand-to-hand."

Just as Killer Croc charged at him, he suddenly stepped on the wall, leaped up, and flipped in mid-air, landing directly on Killer Croc's back.

Without pausing, he pulled two daggers from the outside of his thighs, gripped them tightly in his back, and plunged them into Killer Crocodile's back.

The dagger was incredibly sharp, piercing through the killer crocodile's tough scales without any resistance and sinking straight into the flesh. Du Mu then twisted it forcefully, and the blade rotated halfway around in the flesh.

"roar--!"

The killer crocodile let out a shrill scream, its eyes filled with a sense of bewilderment.

He couldn't understand why his bulletproof scales couldn't stop two mere daggers.

The killer crocodile was of course no match for it.

Because this was no ordinary dagger, but Loki's two daggers, which could pierce even the bodies of gods without hesitation, let alone his few crocodile scales.

In pain, the killer crocodile began to twist its body wildly, trying to shake Du Mu off its back.

But Du Mu seemed fixated on him, gripping the dagger with both hands and stabbing him repeatedly, each time pulling it out drawing blood.

"roar!!"

Killer Croc went completely berserk, its massive body rampaging through the narrow corridor, its back slamming against the wall.

Du Mu let go and jumped down just before he hit the wall, landing steadily.

The next second, the killer crocodile's back slammed into the wall, creating a deep crater in the steel plate, and the entire corridor trembled.

Just then, a hoarse shout came from beside me.

"Let me grant you liberation!"

Zas burst out of the shadows in the corridor, his eyes blazing with a frenzied light.

He probably seized the opportunity when Du Mu had just landed and hadn't fully regained his balance, and with a dagger in each hand, he roared as he stabbed at him.

However, the blade failed to touch any skin.

The dagger in Du Mu's hand suddenly disappeared, and he met the opponent empty-handed, grabbing the wrists of the person holding the knife with both hands.

The madness on Zas's face froze for a moment.

He felt as if his wrists were not being held by two hands, but rather clamped tightly by iron clamps.

The bones, under terrifying pressure, emitted a chilling cracking sound.

A terrifying squeezing force came from his wrist, the bones making a cracking sound that sent chills down his spine. Intense pain shot through his entire body, and his fingers involuntarily loosened, causing the two daggers to fall to the ground.

"How can this be..."

Before he could even utter a complete sentence, Du Mu's hands, which were gripping his wrists, twisted outwards.

Click!

With a crisp cracking sound, Zas's arms were twisted at an angle completely contrary to physiological structure, and white bone fragments pierced the skin, revealing bits of flesh.

"Aaaaaah—!"

A heart-wrenching scream burst from Zas's throat in an instant.

"No wonder you're still a third-rate character after all these years. You're only slightly better than that Black Mask guy who couldn't even get into Arkham."

Du Mu shook his head: "Look at all your colleagues who have gone to Batman to get traffic, while you and this big oaf are still stuck here. You don't know how to cherish such a good exposure opportunity. It's no wonder you can't compare to other supervillains."

"But since you like altering your body with decorative knives so much, I'll alter one for you too."

Before he finished speaking, Du Mu flipped his hands, and the dagger reappeared in his hands. He then slashed Zhas's neck.

Add another stroke to Zas's list of achievements.

This time, however, it was he who was freed.

Unlike Batman, Du Mu doesn't go easy on these supervillains.

As the fourth calamity, if we act like a timid and helpless cybernetic, having to carefully consider how to kill an NPC, other players would probably laugh their heads off.

Besides, he has law enforcement credentials. How dare a mere criminal assault a police officer? He's incredibly audacious.

By this time, Killer Crocodile had recovered from the excruciating pain, exhaling two thick breaths from its nostrils, its eyes fixed on Du Mu with murderous intent.

He arched his back, about to pounce again, when a sharp voice came from around the corner of the corridor.

"Stop! Killer Croc! Stop right now!"

Du Mu recognized the voice, looked in the direction of the sound, and immediately laughed: "Little QQ, what are you doing here?"

The visitor was none other than the penguin man whom Du Mu hadn't seen in a long time.

At this moment, Penguin looked unwell, his head and toes wrapped in medical bandages, layers upon layers of white gauze, like a mummy. Even his signature pointed nose was firmly held in place by gauze, presumably due to a fracture.

"Don't even mention it."

Penguin said with a sullen face, "I don't know what's wrong with Batman. He's been coming to bother me every few days lately, beating me up whenever he catches me. What's worse is that he always brings up old grievances. Things I did before, he didn't bother me then, but now he brings them all up and finds an excuse to beat me up."

Du Mu burst out laughing on the spot.

As expected of Batman, he always has a backup plan.

Du Mu asked curiously, "Shouldn't you be recuperating in the hospital? Why are you at Arkham Asylum?"

"It makes me so angry just thinking about it!"

Penguin looked furious: "I don't know which bastard is spreading rumors about me, saying that I'm spreading rumors about Batman everywhere, and that he made all those high-tech gadgets by selling hooks to Bruce Wayne."

"Just a few days ago I was lying in the hospital recovering from my injuries, and because of this ridiculous rumor, Batman dragged me out of my hospital bed late at night and interrogated me. I said I didn't, but he didn't believe me at all. He beat me until I confessed, and then threw me into this godforsaken place."
