Chapter 409 The Most Powerful Being on Earth

Seaside city, on the coast.

Besides anglers, this place is often frequented by down-on-their-luck individuals.

They like to drink by the sea, letting out all the emotions they've bottled up all day, then drive home to continue their miserable lives. Of course, occasionally some people will drink themselves into the waves, attempting to break the world record for holding their breath, and then no one will ever see them again. Tonight, Hal Jordan is one of those disappointed people.

He parked his car on the side of the road, took the opened beer and walked towards the beach, the sea breeze carrying the salty smell of fish hitting his face.

Hal was originally a test pilot for Ferris Aircraft Manufacturing Company.

Just recently, the company painstakingly developed a new type of artificial intelligence fighter jet, codenamed Sabre III, which it is preparing to sell to the U.S. military.

The cost of training a top-notch pilot is exorbitant, and with a series of recent major incidents resulting in high personnel casualties, funding is becoming increasingly tight.

Therefore, the military began to focus on artificial intelligence fighter jets, considering replacing human pilots with AI.

Ferris Aircraft Manufacturing Company, of course, would not let this opportunity pass by and immediately arranged a demonstration.

But I don't know what the military was thinking, they actually let their company send their own people to be the opponents, and let test pilot Hal fly an F-35 to conduct simulated air combat with two Sabre IIIs.

When the company's executives heard about this arrangement, they almost burst out laughing on the spot.

When your own people compete against your own products, what's the difference between that and your left hand fighting your right?

They even privately instructed Hal to be careful and not to be shot down too quickly, lest the military suspect they were deliberately putting on an act.

Hal actually took those words to heart.

He gave it his all that day, shooting down both Sabre IIIs in the simulated battle and crashing a brand-new F-35 in the process, celebrating the victory with fireworks.

The military delegation was very satisfied after seeing the F-35, stating that it was superior and deciding to renew their order. This multi-billion dollar procurement contract thus fell through.

The company leaders were furious afterward and held an emergency meeting that day, deciding on a large-scale layoff, firing many employees in one go.

As for Hal, the culprit, he was naturally severely punished and given a stern lecture. Then, at the party, he punished himself by drinking three glasses, and that was the end of it.

There was nothing he could do; the chairman's daughter, Carol, was his ex-girlfriend and childhood sweetheart. She had known since childhood that Hal had a bad stomach and had been willing to feed him.

Actually, Hal didn't mean it at the time.

His behavior that day was largely due to a scar he had from his childhood.

His father was also a test pilot for Ferris Airways. He died in a plane crash during a test flight. Little Hal was right by the runway and witnessed the whole thing. He almost became withdrawn and was left with a lot of trauma.

This scenario of a loved one sacrificing themselves to save the heavens is probably familiar to most superheroes.

If nothing unexpected happens, then something unexpected is about to happen.

Sure enough, Hal was suddenly swept to the shore by a force and found a dying purple alien who handed him a ring.

Hal was startled.

Although he was always quite confident in his charm and could easily be on the list of America's most attractive men, he still couldn't believe that an alien he had just met would propose to him with a ring, especially a male alien.

Just as he was about to refuse, the purple alien, as if it had completed its mission, kicked the bucket on the spot.

Before Hal could react, the ring transported him to a planet called Oa.

There he was told that this was the headquarters of the Green Lantern Corps, and that there was information about Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Ring, and he was given a Green Lantern uniform.

And so, Hal turned green and became a Green Lantern.

Then the Green Lantern Corps assigned an instructor to guide him through the beginner's process.

It was supposed to be a beginner's tutorial, but it was really just the instructor beating him up.

After a severe beating, Hal finally learned the basics of using the Green Light Ring. The instructor announced on the spot that he would be the local police officer for Sector 2814, and then kicked him back to Earth.

It's not that the story was edited; it's that the story itself was just rough around the edges.

The onboarding process for a civil servant in the universe is even more perfunctory than that of a gang recruiting on Earth.

Although Hal skipped most of the tutorial and still doesn't quite understand what happened or what he's supposed to do, he knows he's going to start killing... oh no, I mean, become a superhero.

After becoming a superhero, one naturally has to do what a superhero should do.

For example, showing off, or being a hero saving a damsel in distress.

At a private party at Ferris Aircraft Manufacturing Company, Hal first appeared in public as Green Lantern, rescuing his wealthy girlfriend Carol and successfully keeping his money.

Then, posing as Green Lantern, he specifically sought out Carol, just like in the Spider-Man comics he had read, preparing to stage a scene where he cuckolds himself.

However, Carol knew him too well, to the point that she could automatically fill in the internal dimensions and outlines of his clothes in her mind.

Even if he's now blindingly green with envy, they can immediately recognize his true identity and expose him on the spot.

In the usual plot, after the male lead saves the damsel in distress, the two meet again. At this point, they should start taking off their clothes and going to bed together, giving the audience a lot of fan service. Then the scene will jump directly to the next morning.

but no.

They were former boyfriend and girlfriend with a purely platonic relationship. Carol didn't want Hal to give up on himself, but Hal couldn't get over the shadow in his heart. The two talked for a long time, but ended up parting on bad terms.

In a movie, this would mean the movie is almost over.

Now you know why Green Lantern flopped at the box office.

There are hardly any serious fight scenes, and not even any unserious ones. What's the point of watching that?

Afterwards, Hal did not go home; instead, he went to the shore alone to clear his head.

He looked at the green light ring on his finger and sighed, "Why was I chosen? I'm just not cut out for this."

"You're definitely not cut out for this."

A voice suddenly came from behind.

Halton was startled and immediately turned around, only to see Du Mu holding a golden Desert Eagle, the muzzle pointed directly at his forehead.

He instinctively raised his hands and said, "Brother, let's talk this out, please don't shoot."

Even though he is already Green Lantern and guns pose no threat to him, the American fear of guns is ingrained in their genes and has become a conditioned reflex.

Du Mu said earnestly, "I'm trying to save you. Take off the ring, or you'll regret it for the rest of your life."

Hal's lips twitched.

Who points a gun at someone's head and claims they're saving someone's life?

Hal assumed Du Mu was just an ordinary person trying to rob someone, so he quickly tried to dissuade him, saying, "My ring isn't worth much; it's just a toy. Look, it even lights up."

As he spoke, he deliberately shook his finger, the green light shining brightly in the night.

Du Mu chuckled, "You call the Green Lantern ring a toy? If the Green Lantern Corps found out, they'd probably revoke your Green Lantern status." Hal's eyes widened, "You know about the Green Lantern Corps!?"

Du Mu nodded: "Of course, who in the entire universe doesn't know the name of the Green Lantern Corps? No matter how powerful the enemy, as long as the Green Lantern Corps goes all out, they will..."

"Easily defeated?"

Hal took over the conversation, feeling like he'd hit the jackpot.

With the world currently plagued by disasters, and with the Green Lantern Corps as his backing, wouldn't he be able to roam freely across the globe in the future?

He might have a chance to surpass Omniknight and become the most famous superhero.

Hal felt a little depressed when he thought of All-Round Hero.

The members of the Super Seven are all very well-known, and even Aquaman, who has the least presence, has been featured in the news several times because he is associated with the Super Seven.

The news about his own debut barely made a ripple, overshadowed by Wonder Woman's long legs.

Of course, Hal was not dissatisfied with this matter.

After all, he also loved looking at those long legs.

Du Mu shook his head: "Ah no, it was a complete annihilation."

Hal: "

Is it too late for him to withdraw now?

Du Mu continued, "So I advise you to take off the Green Lantern ring and become an actor, or a mercenary, but whatever you do, don't become Green Lantern, or you'll be in great danger."

Hal asked, puzzled, "Why?"

Du Mu explained, "Because some idiot might travel all the way here to kill you, a Canadian."

Hal looked completely bewildered: "No, what grudge do I have against him? Why would he come all this way to kill me? Besides, I'm American." Du Mu didn't explain, but brandished the gun: "Anyway, just take off the ring. Trust me, I'm doing this for your own good."

"Okay, okay, calm down, I'll take it off right away."

With a gun pointed at him, Hal had no choice but to reach out and grab the ring, seemingly about to take it off.

call!

Suddenly, a surge of green energy erupted from the ring, condensing into a massive fist in mid-air, which then blasted towards Du Mu.

Since this person knows about the Green Lantern Corps and still wants the Green Lantern Ring, he is most likely an enemy of the Green Lantern Corps.

Hal did not hesitate and decided to strike first.

Du Mu stood still and threw a punch.

Whoosh!

The two fists, one large and one small, collided, and the green fist exploded in mid-air, shattering into a shower of fluorescent light.

Du Mu shook his head and commented, "The Green Lantern Ring can transform the user's willpower into power. It seems your willpower is not strong enough, far inferior to that bat's."

Hal was no longer listening to what Du Mu was saying.

Seeing that his opponent had shattered his attack with a single punch, Hal was shocked and realized that he had encountered a formidable enemy.

He flashed with green light and instantly transformed into Green Lantern form.

The overwhelming green light made Du Mu squint: "No wonder Wade complains about this outfit every day. With all this green on the screen, who can stand it?"

After transforming, Hal finally regained some confidence.

He activated the ring, and a green light suddenly spread out, forming four shackles on Du Mu's limbs, binding him firmly. Then, a huge rock appeared from above and smashed vertically down on Du Mu's head.

This was exactly the tactic the Green Lantern Corps instructors used to beat him up, and he copied it verbatim.

But Du Mu was no pushover like Hal; with a gentle tug, his hands broke free from the shackles.

He braced himself with one hand, steadily catching the falling boulder, and then threw it back at Hal.

Hal hurriedly waved his hand to clear away the incoming boulder, and when he regained his sight, he saw that Du Mu had already raised the golden Desert Eagle and was pulling the trigger repeatedly.

boom!boom!boom!boom!

Several bullets whistled through the air.

Hal pushed his hands forward, conjuring several green walls to block the bullets. He then manipulated the walls to close and crash into Du Mu.

Bang!

Du Mu casually slapped the wall, and it shattered into a shower of fireflies.

That's amazing!?

Hal swallowed hard, not daring to stop. He desperately concentrated his willpower, and the green light twisted rapidly in mid-air, transforming into a giant pair of scissors with its blades open, aiming to clamp down hard on Du Mu.

Du Mu spread his hands and grasped the two blades of the scissors directly.

No matter how hard Hal tried to activate the ring, the scissors remained motionless, as if they were welded to Du Mu's hand.

"Rock, paper, scissors? That's a game for kids."

Du Mu squeezed the blade with all his might, and cracks spread from the tip of the scissors all the way to the entire blade. The next second, the entire pair of scissors shattered with a crash.

Before Hal could react, Du Mu had already rushed in front of him and punched him straight in the face.

Hal had no time to defend himself and was sent flying, crashing heavily onto the beach and creating a shallow, human-shaped crater. Fortunately, Du Mu hadn't used much force; Hal was just stunned but not mentally injured.

Du Mu looked at Hal lying on the ground and mocked, "The Green Lantern Ring is supposed to be incredibly versatile, capable of creating even the sun. Is this all the imagination you've got?"

The essence of the Green Lantern Ring's energy is to materialize the user's will, which is equivalent to the power of thought. As long as the user thinks it can be done, it can be done. Its power depends entirely on the Green Lantern's own willpower.

As a result, Hal only ever transforms into common things, showing absolutely no creativity.

If it were Du Mu playing this game, he would probably have created something amazing by now.

Hal was in pain and angry, and his temper flared up.

He was beaten up on Planet Oa, and now he has to suffer this injustice back on Earth?

"You forced me to do this!"

Hal gritted his teeth and got up from the ground.

All the resentment and anger he had accumulated over the past few days were mixed together, turning into a violent emotional fluctuation. This surged wildly into the Green Light Ring, carrying with it his willpower. The next moment, a dazzling green light burst forth from his body, turning half of the beach green.

He began to sketch in his mind the most powerful being in his perception.

Green light rapidly condensed before him, gradually outlining the silhouette of a tall, imposing human figure.

The figure, clad in sharply angled armor, hovered silently in mid-air.

Despite wearing a helmet, one could still sense an extremely handsome face beneath.

Just getting close to them is enough to be awe-inspiring, making one marvel at the existence of such a perfect being in this world.

The only downside is that it's too green, green from head to toe.

Seeing Du Mu's surprised expression, Hal couldn't help but grin and say smugly, "Hahaha, scared, aren't you? You must recognize who this is, right?"

"That's right! This is the most powerful being on Earth, the superhero All-Around Man!"

"Are you scared yet?!"
