Chapter 124 Illusion

After Iron Man's mission was a complete disaster, Nick Fury finally pulled out a walkie-talkie and said into it, "Operation begins. Release the monster."

Watching Tony wail on the TV screen, Nick Fury felt a surge of satisfaction. Tony was finally paying the price for the one-eyed guy, the watermelon, and the fried chicken incident.

If it weren't for the Stark family's special status within S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury would have even wanted to wait until Tony was killed before sending anyone over.

"Abomination versus Hulk?" Xiao Xian was stunned when he saw the people S.H.I.E.L.D. had sent to fight the Hulk. Was S.H.I.E.L.D. a mole sent by a demolition company?

If these two fought in downtown New York City, how many houses would be destroyed?

Xiao Xian thought of this for one important reason: his house wasn't too far away. Although he had arranged for Xingguang to pick up Aunt Mei so she wouldn't be accidentally hurt, the house couldn't be moved.

"The commissioner's operation failed and he's dead. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s alien weapons are useless against Pennywise," Natasha messaged. "And it seems there's something wrong with the alien weapons. "I understand. What's S.H.I.E.L.D.'s next plan? Also, let's not ask about that strange weapon." Xiao Xian casually reminded him. The leak wasn't actually Pennywise's fault, but rather his and the White Queen's. But since S.H.I.E.L.D. had pinned the blame on Pennywise, that was even better.

"They seem to be planning to call in the X-Men for help; the higher-ups are currently in talks with Professor X," Natasha replied. "There also seems to be another group that thinks we should use other exotic weapons."

"X-Men?" Upon hearing this, Xiao Xian thought of Phoenix. It seemed like there was something he could actually do. Also, if Professor X came over, he wondered if he would run into Harry? After all, Osborn Corporation was one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s biggest financial backers.

"If Pennywise creates illusions of your old friends, won't you be affected?" Xiao Xian asked.

"Don't worry, I've moved on from my grief. For you, I can face Pennywise and the past." Beverly said, leaning on Xiao Xian with happiness and confidence.

"What if he transforms into an illusion of me abandoning you, or of me dying?" Xiao Xian asked upon seeing this.

"!!!!!" Beverly didn't answer, but her expression and wide eyes revealed her inner turmoil.

It seems this dungeon can only be run with men, not women, Xiao Xian thought to himself, looking at Beverly who was clearly wavering.

"Well, in the end, one has to rely on oneself. One's own tasks must be completed by oneself," Xiao Xian said, putting Beverly back on the bed.

"You stay here, I'll deal with Pennywise."

"No, let me go with you. I have experience dealing with Pennywise. My companions and I have defeated him before." Beverly grabbed Xiao Xian's hand and said, "Having fear doesn't necessarily mean you can't defeat Pennywise. The key is to overcome fear."

"You have a point, but are you sure you can overcome this fear?" Xiao Xian looked at Beverly and said, "You're risking your life to face Pennywise for my sake."
