Wizards: Starting with the Refined Meditation Technique Guide
Chapter 8: Wizards Need Talent
Leo stepped forward and then demonstrated his Magic Hand spell in front of the crystal ball.
A number appeared on the crystal ball.
"10 points."
This figure made Chris and others extremely envious.
Chris exclaimed exaggeratedly, "Wow, amazing! 10 points! That's equivalent to a scholarship of 10 magic stones!"
Sally smiled slightly and said, "Very good."
"Next, Chris."
"2 points."
Chris stammered, "Two points? Better than nothing."
He said that, but he was secretly overjoyed.
This brought him one step closer to paying his first year's tuition.
"Jasmine."
"5 points, not bad. It seems you have some talent for spell construction."
The jewel merchant's daughter clenched her little fists with delight.
5 points equals the income of 5 magic stones.
There was hope for paying the first year's tuition.
"Sono."
"0 points."
Sono's expectant gaze visibly vanished, replaced by a look of inner turmoil and struggle on his face. Then, as if making a decision, he let out a long breath.
"John."
"0 points."
Upon hearing the result, John immediately expressed his dissatisfaction, saying, "Witch Sally, what's going on? If you say that cultivating spiritual energy relies on effort, then why is there such a large gap between their scores and mine in just one hour?"
"What can you prove in just one hour of study time!"
"Give me more time, and I can do it too; I can do it even better."
Sally shook her head, her tone still gentle, and said, "John, spellcasting is related to mental energy. If your meditation had been serious enough, you would have gotten at least a 1 instead of 0."
"Also, I never said that a wizard's training doesn't require talent... hard work. It's just that you don't have talent, so you need to work hard."
John's face turned completely pale in an instant.
At that moment, John felt like a clown.
His earlier statement that nobles were better suited to be wizards now seems like a joke.
In this near-humiliating state, John completely lost control of his emotions. He shouted, "No, the problem isn't me. It's you. Because there were no mentors at the Esmond Gathering, that's why I ended up like this. If it had been a mentor wizard instead of you, I certainly wouldn't have gotten a zero."
Sally remained calm and undisturbed upon hearing this.
There are too many people like John in the Tower of Dawn.
He thought he was a genius, but in the wizarding world he only had the most ordinary talent.
Chris quickly grabbed John's sleeve and said, "Calm down, John."
John realized he had lost his composure and said, "I'm sorry, Wizard Sally, I got too excited."
"Alright, you can go back now."
Sally said calmly, "Come here again tomorrow at the same time."
The crowd responded, "Yes, Lady Sally the Wizard."
After everyone left, Chris said, "John, you're really crazy. That's a wizard! How could you yell at her and criticize her like that?"
“I’m not crazy!” John said. “That’s just how it is. If I had joined a gathering with mentors, things definitely wouldn’t have turned out this way.”
John was now completely devoid of the charming demeanor he had displayed when they first met.
Chris said, "John, you're really crazy."
Leo shook his head.
Chris and Molly also looked at John as if he were crazy.
To spout nonsense in the face of a wizard—that's truly fearless.
Sono lowered his head, his eyes flickering, as if he were pondering something.
Several days passed
Teaching Room
Leo and his team were conducting their fifth comprehensive assessment of the spell models.
"Danville, 20 points."
Sally smiled broadly upon seeing the result and said, "A very good result."
"Chris...12 points."
"good."
Although this score was far behind Leo's, Chris was still very happy and said with a smile, "12 points is 12 magic stones, not bad."
"Jasmine...15 points."
"good."
The timid little girl clenched her fists, looking very happy.
15 points equals 15 magic stones, bringing me one step closer to paying tuition.
"Sono, 3 points."
Sono remained calm, seemingly unaffected by even the lowest score.
"John, 1 point."
John remained expressionless.
In reality, he was roaring wildly inside.
"At the bottom again!"
I'm still at the bottom!
"It must be Sally the wizard's fault for teaching poorly!"
"If I had a rally instructor, things would definitely not have turned out this way!"
Sally said, "In a few days, there will be the second meditation progress test. The scores will be uploaded to the central system, and then the final comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the Magic Hand will be conducted."
"You don't need to come over these next few days. You can practice in your own rooms. If you have any questions or anything you don't understand, you can come to my office."
"Yes, Lady Sally the Wizard."
Suddenly, Chris asked curiously, "Witch Sally, isn't there a ranking for the Hand of Magic test?"
Sally said, "Yes, but it will only be shown in the final test of the Fel Hand."
The crowd then dispersed.
Leo returned to his room and repeatedly looked at the illustrations of the Magic Hand.
Leo is just a little short of getting the Magic Hand to normal quality in the encyclopedia, and he hopes to master the normal quality version of Magic Hand in the near future.
After spending most of the day looking at the encyclopedia, Leo opened his eyes and let his mind rest for a while.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Leo raised an eyebrow, wondering who would come looking for him at this hour. He went to the door and asked, "Who is it?"
"Hello, Danville, this is Sonno."
Leo asked, "Sono, what's wrong?"
"I have something to say, but it's not convenient to talk at the door. Let me come in and talk."
Leo nodded and let him in.
After Sono entered, he found a place to sit down and said, "Leo, I am actually the eighth prince of the Socratic Empire's royal family. This is the symbol of a member of the Socratic royal family."
As Sono spoke, he took out a badge inlaid with a griffin pattern.
Leo glanced at it and said, "I didn't expect you to be a prince. John would be very surprised if he knew."
Seeing that Leo didn't react in any particular way, Sono was slightly surprised and said, "You don't seem surprised at all by my identity."
"It's not that I'm not surprised, but as you said before, in the Tower of Dawn, identity is meaningless."
Upon hearing this, Sono gave a wry smile and said, "That's true."
"Leo, actually I have an older brother who is also on this wizard ship. He is very talented, a genius with level 4 mental power."
Leo frowned and asked, "And then?"
“My brother’s mentor is very interested in the Esmond Gathering,” Sonno said. “He hopes you can support his mentor when he takes over the Esmond Gathering.”
Leo paused for a moment, then asked, "Who is his mentor?"
Seeing that Leo seemed interested, Sono immediately said, "Mentor Uriel. The wizard Ryan on the wizard ship you were on at the beginning was an assistant instructor at Uriel's gathering."
