Chapter 154 Brother and Sister
Chapter 154 Brother and Sister
"Xia Mi, take care on your journey."
"Remember to go to bed early tonight; you haven't looked too well these past few days."
At the school gate, several familiar female classmates smiled and waved goodbye to Xia Mi.
Xia Mi waved her arms at them, her smile as bright as the autumn sun: "Okay, okay, I'll definitely go to bed early tonight, and I'll be that energetic girl again tomorrow."
The girls chatted around Xia Mi for a while longer, then suggested they try out a newly opened dessert shop in a nearby mall, and warmly invited Xia Mi to go with them.
"I can't, I have a silly older brother at home waiting for me to take care of him." Xia Mi skillfully used that same old excuse, her tone carrying just the right amount of helplessness and doting.
"Xia Mi, you've really worked hard."
"I hope you get into Kassel College soon and escape your family of origin."
The girls cast sympathetic yet encouraging glances at her, sincerely wishing her well, before laughing and walking together toward the mall.
Xia Mi stood there, watching their departing figures, her smile like clouds scattered by the autumn wind, gradually fading until it disappeared completely.
It is late autumn in the capital city at this moment.
The locust trees lining the road have shed their blossoms, leaving only bare branches. Golden ginkgo leaves swirl in the wind, carpeting the entire street, rustling softly underfoot.
For some reason, Xia Mi suddenly recalled a great writer's description of autumn in the capital, and thought of that desolation that seemed to seep into her very bones.
She glanced again at the backs of the girls, who were laughing and joking intimately, and a strange feeling quietly welled up in her heart.
She shook her head violently, trying to expel this emotion that didn't belong to her from her consciousness.
Xia Mi, Xia Mi, you are the Dragon King.
We must not be swayed by these fragile human emotions.
She repeatedly told herself this until the emotion had completely subsided before she turned around, started walking towards the subway entrance.
From the window on the second floor of the teaching building, Cheng Sui quietly watched that slender figure disappear around the street corner.
All the memories and perceptions that his clone had just experienced within Nibelungen had been completely transmitted into his mind.
He wanted Fenrir to know of his existence, and in turn, to let Xia Mi know of her existence.
This dragon king, hidden in the human world, needs some pressure that his identity might be exposed.
Only in this way will she reveal a flaw, allowing her subsequent plans to proceed smoothly.
Cheng Sui gently stroked the specially made encrypted phone in his pocket, calculating in his mind when it would be safest to hand it over to Erii.
This time, Xia Mi did not take the fastest route home as usual.
That empty place, which she called "home," was merely a necessary disguise for her to pretend to be human.
She chose to transfer and boarded Line 1, which leads to the other side of the city.
The moment the subway doors opened and she stepped out of the carriage, the entire world seemed to be violently distorted and reconstructed in her vision.
The brand-new, bright, and modern platform instantly lost its glamorous exterior.
The tiles on the walls had peeled off, revealing mottled concrete, and the ceiling lights flickered with a dim yellow light. The air was filled with the musty smell of rust and dust.
This place has become an abandoned subway platform from the last century, a corner forgotten by time and space.
Xia Mi took off her school uniform with a blank expression and gentle movements.
The girl's slender, snow-white body was exposed without any cover in the dim light. But there was no human shyness or embarrassment on her face, as if she didn't care at all.
She carefully folded her school uniform and placed it neatly on the stone bench next to her, along with her schoolbag.
The next second, an incomparably powerful bloodline force awakened and surged through her delicate veins.
Dark blue scales rapidly grew from beneath her skin, gleaming with a cold, metallic sheen, densely covering the girl's once beautiful body. Grotesque dragon horns slowly emerged from her smooth, long brown hair.
In just a moment, the sweet and innocent girl named "Xia Mi" disappeared completely.
Instead, a dragon king named Jormungandr took his place.
She gently stretched her body, which was covered in scales, feeling the sense of power that made her feel like she could control everything.
The Dragon King's coldness and majesty spread out like a tangible domain, causing the weasels deep in the tunnel to bow their bodies in submission.
Jormungandr slowly raised his hand.
At the end of the dark, deep tunnel in front of her, came a clanging sound, and an old, rusty train suddenly appeared out of nowhere, speeding towards her with a screeching sound.
However, just moments before the train was about to hit her, it came to a sudden stop in a way that completely defied the laws of physics.
It was as if all the kinetic energy it carried had been instantly drained away by an invisible hand.
Jormungandr stepped onto the train.
The doors closed quietly behind her, and the train started moving again, speeding through the darkness at an unimaginable pace, soon arriving at its destination.
This is Nibelungen, a parallel space to the real world, which she and her brother Fenrir built together.
Fenrir had already sensed the presence of Jormungandr.
His massive, mountain-like body writhed excitedly, each swing causing the entire underground space to tremble violently, and rubble to fall in a shower.
"Quiet."
Jormungandr's voice was cold.
Fenrir's massive body froze instantly, ceasing all movement. He carefully coiled himself up, his enormous head drooping, looking as aggrieved as a kitten weighing tens of tons and fifty meters long.
"What happened on the day I left?"
This Nibelungen was just beginning to take shape and was not yet stable. Jormungandr was not at ease with it and routinely questioned his mentally challenged "gatekeeper" brother.
"Mmm, my sister's friend came to see me and gave me lots of delicious food." Fenrir's voice was muffled, but full of innocent joy.
Jormungandr's eyes instantly turned dangerous.
Her first reaction was that enemies had invaded Nibelungen.
"My friend? What delicious food is it? Bring it out quickly." There was a hint of urgency in her voice.
She wasn't worried about herself, but she was worried that someone had discovered this still-incomplete Nibelungen and fed her foolish brother something with deadly poison or a curse.
Although the Dragon King possesses remarkable vitality, he is not entirely immune to the alchemical poisons from hybrid species.
Fenrir seemed to sense the unease in his sister's tone, and his massive body shrank back. He carefully used his two enormous claws to pull out several well-packaged bags of potato chips and cans of cola from between the gaps in his scales, and pushed them aggrievedly in front of Jormungandr.
"I didn't take my sister's friend's things for nothing," he added. "I gave him my mark."
"Bang!"
A dull, loud bang.
From Jormungandr's seemingly petite body erupted a terrifying power completely disproportionate to her size. She slammed a powerful punch into Fenrir's mountain-like head.
The hard dragon scales shattered instantly, and Fenrir let out a low howl of pain.
"You idiot!" Jormungandr's voice was filled with rage. "I don't have any friends at all! You just casually gave away something as important as the Mark!"
Fenrir covered the spot where Jormungandr had hit him with his claws, a look of sadness in his huge dragon eyes.
But what saddened him was not that his sister had hit him.
It was not because he was genuinely happy that his sister had finally found a friend, but now he learned that his sister was still as lonely as she had been for thousands of years.
Seeing Fenrir's aggrieved and sad appearance, Jormungandr's anger gradually subsided.
She calmed down and realized that she couldn't entirely blame her stupid brother.
For thousands of years since his birth, he has always been this innocent and foolish, unable to even distinguish whether he is his sister or sister.
"Tell me what that person looks like." Jormungandr's tone softened slightly, but remained cold.
Fenrir scratched his chin with his enormous claws, tilting his massive head to one side as if he were trying to recall something.
"Two eyes, one mouth?"
Jormungandr's eye twitched violently, and the anger he had just suppressed seemed to be reigniting.
The thought of beating him up again surfaced in my mind.
In the end, she could only sigh helplessly.
It's better to hope that the hybrids will go extinct than to expect Fenrir to provide useful information.
"Never mind," she waved her hand, "Tonight, come with me and thoroughly inspect the entire Nibelungen."
"Also, let's see if we can catch that clueless intruder."
Upon hearing this, Fenrir's enormous dragon eyes instantly regained their light.
He happily flapped his two wings that blotted out the sky, stirring up gusts of wind.
He didn't care about intruders or marks at all.
All he knew was that his sister could spend the whole night with him again tonight.
