Chapter 156 High School Idol
Chapter 156 High School Idol
The afternoon sunlight streamed through the blinds, creating alternating light and dark stripes on the brand-new desk.
Cheng Sui leaned against the edge of the table, holding a cup of instant coffee in one hand, his gaze fixed on Chu Zihang not far away.
This office was specially vacated by the principal. The furnishings inside are brand new, clearly recently purchased furniture, which clashes with the somewhat outdated overall style of the high school.
Upon seeing the handwritten recommendation letter from the headmaster of the main campus, the principal immediately treated the two as important figures with powerful connections, providing such attentive service that Cheng Sui felt somewhat flattered.
Chu Zihang sat upright, meticulously flipping through a class roster, silently reciting the students' names, seemingly trying to memorize them all in the shortest possible time.
His handsome profile was sharply defined in the light and shadow, and his skin appeared even whiter in the sunlight.
"Hey, you expressionless guy." Cheng Sui took a sip of coffee and looked outside the office. "There are quite a few innocent high school girls peeking at you outside the office."
Chu Zihang's gaze did not leave the list; he simply responded with a faint "yes."
"I'm used to it." His voice was flat. "It was like this all the time back in Shilan High School."
If these words came from someone else, they would carry a hint of boasting, but when Chu Zihang said them, they sounded perfectly natural.
Being surrounded by girls seemed as natural to him as breathing, an innate part of his daily life.
Cheng Sui curled his lip and silently labeled this guy as a born show-off.
"I haven't asked you yet what position you chose?" Cheng Sui changed the subject. "I remember your strength is in magical mechanics, but the preparatory class doesn't have such advanced subjects."
"Hmm." Chu Zihang finally raised his head, his dark, deep pupils calm and still. "I also got A grades in all the other courses."
He put the student list, which he had almost memorized, aside and picked up another document.
That's the teaching process for tomorrow's alchemy experiment class.
"I chose to be an assistant teacher for the alchemy lab class," he explained. "My main responsibilities are preparing equipment and maintaining order. I don't need to lecture, which is very convenient."
"That would certainly suit you well," Cheng Sui laughed. "I'm quite curious what it would be like to have you standing on the podium giving a lecture."
Chu Zihang seriously considered this possibility.
"It'll probably be quite boring," Chu Zihang said casually.
Seeing his serious expression as he was fully engaged in preparing his lesson, Cheng Sui wisely refrained from disturbing him further.
He precisely tossed the empty paper cup into the corner trash can, then turned and walked toward the office door.
The moment the door was opened, a small gasp and commotion came from outside.
Sure enough, several girls in school uniforms were crowding at the door, peeking in.
Upon seeing Cheng Sui emerge, their faces immediately showed the panic of being caught red-handed.
"Go away, go away." Cheng Sui waved his hand impatiently, as if shooing away a few chirping sparrows.
"What are you all doing gathered here? Do you think you have too little homework today and want me to give you some extra food?" His tone was somewhat mocking.
The girls burst into laughter, shoving each other and running away quickly with flushed faces, leaving a string of silvery laughter in the corridor.
Cheng Sui leaned against the door frame, watching their youthful figures from behind, the smile on his face gradually fading.
Nibelungen.
Unlike the sun-drenched campus above ground, this is another world.
Jormungandr stood alone on the abandoned subway platform, the air thick with the unpleasant smell of gasoline and rust.
Her hands moved continuously in front of her, tracing mysterious and complex paths.
As she chanted silently, a pale golden light began to appear in the air.
The rays of light, like living serpents, rapidly intertwined and outlined in front of her, forming a complex, gigantic alchemical matrix that was gradually taking shape at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The space of the subway platform was subtly distorted under the light of the matrix.
Jormungandr was not particularly skilled in alchemy; that was the authority of the Bronze and Fire Lords.
However, building a surveillance matrix for detection and defense is not difficult for her.
Moreover, she was not alone.
Deep within the Nibelungen, Fenrir was continuously channeling power into her.
Fenrir's power was like the most solid foundation, supporting Jormungandr in continuously improving and strengthening the kingdom that belonged to him and his sister.
As the light flickered, Jormungandr's thoughts drifted elsewhere.
Who exactly is that intruder?
Her first reaction was the Secret Service.
But she quickly rejected the idea herself.
If those rabid dogs from the Secret Society had broken in, the capital would certainly not be so peaceful right now. Once they discover traces of the Dragon King's lair, they would surely swarm out and unleash a bloodbath.
But if he was just an ordinary person who stumbled upon this place, how could he explain that he could easily break through the group of Kamaitachi led by the Kamaitachi Queen, who were capable of tearing apart any hybrid elite?
Even more inexplicable is that when an ordinary person sees Fenrir's massive, mountain-like true form, instead of having their mind crushed by the dragon's might emanating from the depths of their bloodline, they can still calmly communicate with him.
She even gained the trust of that silly older brother.
A figure involuntarily appeared in Jormungandr's mind.
The new history teacher, Cheng Sui.
From the moment he first met him, Jormungandr felt an inexplicable sense of unease.
The man seemed shrouded in a thick fog, making it impossible for her to see through him.
His every word and action seemed to be a test, subtly provoking her defenses.
But Cheng Sui happens to have the perfect alibi.
On the afternoon of the intrusion, Jormungandr was certain that he had been at school the entire time.
I even spent the entire duration of two class periods in his small office.
The thought of this ignited a nameless fire within Jormungandr.
She couldn't understand why that man was targeting her at every turn.
I don't understand why I can't help feeling sleepy whenever I'm in his class.
It felt like my spirit was being forcibly dragged into a warm swamp, and no matter how hard I struggled, it was all in vain.
This was an unprecedented humiliation for a dragon king.
What surprised and alarmed her even more was that Chu Zihang had also come to the preparatory class with this man.
Jormungandr had met Chu Zihang three years ago because the boy carried the aura of Odin. However, Jormungandr later discovered that the boy didn't have anything special about him, and that he had only acquired Odin's aura by accident.
But is all of this really just a coincidence?
Jormungandr's gaze grew increasingly cold, and the light emanating from his fingertips took on a sharp edge.
One rune after another lit up in the air, then quickly merged into the massive alchemical matrix.
The monotonous and empty echoes continued to spread throughout the deathly silent underground space.
