Chapter 172 Percy Falls into an Illusion
Chapter 172 Percy Falls into an Illusion
The school bell echoed through the corridors of the preparatory class in the capital.
Students poured out of the classrooms like a tide, filling the entire teaching building with noise.
Cheng Sui packed up his lesson plan and walked slowly toward the school gate.
He did not choose his usual route home.
Instead, they turned into a bustling commercial street.
The afternoon sun slanted across the street, casting long shadows of pedestrians. Cheng Sui mingled in the bustling crowd, seemingly wandering aimlessly.
He casually strolled through the commercial street, passing through shops and around corners. About twenty meters behind him, a tall, slender figure trailed like a ghost.
Pascal Gattuso wore a well-tailored grey trench coat, his blond hair gleaming softly in the sunlight. His steps were light and steady, always maintaining a perfect distance from Cheng Sui.
This elite member of the Gattuso family was full of confidence in his family's tracking skills.
He believed that Cheng Sui's every move was under his control.
Cheng stopped in front of a coffee shop.
The street scene was reflected in the glass shop window, along with the golden figure following him at a distance. A slight smile curved Cheng Sui's lips.
He pushed open the door to the café, and the bell rang crisply.
"An iced Americano, please."
Cheng Sui sat down by the window, his gaze casually sweeping across the view. Across the street, in front of the newsstand, Percy was pretending to browse through a magazine.
A perfect disguise.
Little did he know that his every move was clearly reflected in the glass window of the coffee shop.
Cheng Sui slowly savored his coffee.
His fingers tapped lightly on the table, as if he were deep in thought. The sunlight outside the window gradually slanted westward, bathing the street in gold.
Twenty minutes later, Cheng put down the empty cup.
He deliberately left the cup on the table, got up and left, his actions no different from those of other customers who came and left normally.
Stepping out of the coffee shop, Cheng Sui's steps remained leisurely.
He strolled leisurely along the sidewalk, occasionally stopping to glance at the shop windows, as if simply enjoying a pleasant afternoon.
Percy continued to follow behind.
They maintained a perfect tracking distance.
As Cheng Sui turned a street corner, his pace suddenly quickened.
He deliberately chose to walk through blind spots of surveillance cameras, skillfully avoiding each one. Sometimes he would pass through crowded alleys, and sometimes he would turn into quiet back streets.
Percy's brow furrowed slightly.
The target's movement trajectory began to become bizarre. There was no discernible pattern, as if it was deliberately circling around.
Percy quickened his pace, his blond hair fluttering slightly in the wind. His tracking remained precise, but doubts were slowly building within him.
Cheng Sui's figure disappeared at the entrance of a subway station.
Percy hesitated for a moment.
Subway stations are filled with diverse people and have many blind spots in surveillance, making them an ideal place to evade tracking. But the mission must be accomplished.
He took a deep breath and then walked into the subway station.
The subway in Beijing is always packed with people.
Cheng mingled in the crowd, skillfully swiping his card to enter the station. His figure flashed past the turnstile and quickly disappeared into the surging flow of people.
Parsey followed closely behind.
He bought a one-way ticket and hurried through the turnstile. His eyes scanned the platform, searching for that familiar figure.
Cheng Sui was not far away.
He stood in front of the waiting line, his back to Passy. The roar of the train arriving at the station drowned out the surrounding noise.
The car doors opened, and the crowd poured in.
Cheng followed the flow of people onto the train. Percy also squeezed into the same carriage.
The train started moving and traveled through the tunnel.
Cheng Sui stood firm at the connecting point between the carriages, calmly gazing at the darkness rushing past the window. Percy stood at the other end of the carriage, pretending to look at his phone.
The train stopped at station after station, but Cheng Sui showed no intention of getting off, letting the train carry him through the underground of the capital.
Percy's patience was wearing thin.
The subway journey had been going on for almost an hour. Cheng Sui seemed to have no destination, simply changing between different lines at random.
This is very abnormal.
Just as Percy was starting to get annoyed, his phone vibrated.
The caller ID showed Frost Gattuso.
Percy answered the phone, lowering his voice.
"gentlemen."
"Percy, where are you?" Frost's voice came through the receiver.
"Surveillance mission in progress."
"End the surveillance." Frost's tone was decisive. "Caesar has arrived in the capital. Your primary task is to ensure his safety."
Percy's brow furrowed slightly.
His gaze remained fixed on Cheng Sui at the other end of the carriage. The black-haired young man was leaning against the door, his expression indifferent.
"clear."
Percy hung up the phone, his fingertips tapping lightly on the phone's casing. His intuition warned him that there must be some connection between Cheng Sui and the Dragon King.
We can't just give up like this.
The train slowly pulled up to the platform.
Cheng followed the flow of people off the bus, his steps still composed. Percy hesitated for a moment, but still followed.
He followed Cheng through the turnstile.
The moment I passed through the turnstile, the surrounding air suddenly seemed to freeze.
The once bright and modern subway station has become dilapidated and outdated in the blink of an eye. The tiles on the walls have peeled off, revealing the cement underneath. The lights are dim and flickering, emitting a crackling sound of electricity.
It felt like stepping back into the last century.
Percy stopped abruptly, a flicker of surprise crossing his blue eyes beneath his blond hair. He looked around and realized the entire subway station had changed.
This isn't the station he just came into.
"What are you doing here?"
A hoarse voice suddenly sounded from behind him.
Percy froze.
He slowly turned around and saw a hunched figure standing in the shadows. It was a subway worker in an old uniform, his face deeply wrinkled.
The old man's eyes were cloudy, yet they shone with a knowing light.
Percy's hand stealthily reached for the weapon at his waist. His gaze was sharp as an eagle's, fixed on the old man who had suddenly appeared.
"Outsiders are not welcome here."
The old man's voice sounded like the turning of rusty gears. He took a step forward, the dim light illuminating his age-spotted face.
Percy noticed that Cheng Sui's figure had disappeared at the end of the platform.
He then realized that this was an elaborate trap. From the moment he began tracking Cheng Sui, he had already stepped into this scheme.
"Who are you?"
Percy asked calmly, assessing the surrounding situation. This eerie subway station was clearly no ordinary place.
An ancient atmosphere permeated the air.
It was like a basement that had been sealed off for decades, reeking of mold and rust. The distant tracks were dark and deep, as if leading to another world.
The old man grinned, revealing his broken and incomplete teeth.
"I'm just a doorman."
His voice echoed across the empty platform, carrying an indescribable eeriness.
Percy's fingers were already gripping the hilt of his weapon. His muscles were tense, ready to respond to any possible attack.
But the old man stood there, staring at him with his cloudy eyes.
"Leave here."
The old man finished speaking, then slowly retreated into the shadows and disappeared.
Percy stood rooted to the spot, his blond hair standing out starkly in the dim light. His target had vanished, and he himself was now trapped in a bizarre predicament.
This process was far more complicated than he had imagined.
Percy took a deep breath and began to carefully examine the suddenly unfamiliar subway station. He had to find a way out as soon as possible and then report this unusual situation to his family.
Cheng Sui's identity probably needs to be reassessed.
The platform lights flickered again, casting a long shadow over him. In that instant, Patrice Gattuso realized with a clear understanding that he was involved in something far more complex than a simple surveillance mission.
The air still seemed to linger with Cheng Sui's scent.
He is elusive, much like the man himself, making him unpredictable.
Percy started walking in the direction Cheng Sui had disappeared. Although he knew this might be another trap, he had no other choice.
The pride of the Gattuso family would not allow him to back down.
The dim light cast his shadow on the mottled wall, swaying as he moved. In this suddenly unfamiliar subway station, Percy felt a sense of helplessness for the first time, a feeling of things spiraling out of control.
Cheng Sui, this rising star of the academy, must be hiding secrets that we don't know about, and what Percy has to do now is to uncover these secrets.
Whatever awaits him ahead.
Cheng Sui waved his hand in front of Percy, who was standing there motionless, to confirm that the person who had been inexplicably following him was completely trapped in the illusionary world he had created.
He sat down next to Parcy, silently pondering Parcy's purpose.
He certainly knew Percy, but he didn't expect Percy to come to the capital with Caesar.
Are the Gattuso family so distrustful of Caesar that they even bring a nanny with them when he goes abroad on a mission?
No, perhaps Parcii was not acting for Caesar, but for some other purpose.
But Cheng Sui could only think of one reason why Percy was following him: his contact with Xia Mi and Fenrir.
However, Cheng hadn't expected these people from the Secret Service to be so perceptive; it seemed he had truly underestimated them.
Thinking of this, Cheng Sui put on his black robe with red cloud patterns and wore an orange swirling mask.
"Ahem." Cheng Sui adjusted his voice slightly.
Since Percy is following him, he might as well play along.
