Chapter 125 A Box of Vibranium, Steve's Persuasion

Chapter 125 A Box of Vibranium, Steve's Persuasion

The night wind blew, bringing a chill.

The canyon finally returned to peace, but after a great battle, it was in complete disarray.

The mountains that once stood on both sides have been ravaged by McCa's abilities, with most of their peaks sheared off and rocks rolling down, sinking deep into the sand.

Logan stood beside McCain's body, staring at him coldly.

The dismembered body was still gushing blood. The head next to the body still showed the terror of death, with wide-open pupils filled with fear. The blood color quickly dissipated as the blood flowed out, leaving only a paper-white color.

"Logan!"

Just then, Moira's voice came from behind.

Logan looked back and saw Moira, Marcus, and Victor approaching.

"Why are you here?"

Logan retracted his steel claws, wiped the blood from his face, and turned to walk towards them.

"They were all worried about you, afraid you couldn't win, so they insisted on coming to check on you, thinking they could help in some way. But it looks like the battle is over."

Victor walked calmly through the rocky canyon, arms crossed, looking around. He raised an eyebrow and said, "Are you planning to tear this canyon down?"

Looking at the shocking canyon, he couldn't help but feel a little shocked, and his gaze subconsciously drifted to McCain on the ground.

It has to be said that McCa's strength is obviously very strong. He was able to withstand Logan for so long and still wreak havoc on the canyon like this.

Moira stared in astonishment at the scene before her.

Although the full picture of the battle was not clearly seen, the intensity of the battle could be inferred from the post-battle scene in the canyon.

At the same time, she couldn't help but glance at Logan and McCa's corpses on the ground.

It's hard to imagine that the two of them could unleash such terrifying power. It feels like if they were to continue fighting, this canyon would be razed to the ground.

"Your strength is truly awe-inspiring."

Moira couldn't help but mutter something under her breath, then looked at Logan, "Are you alright?"

Logan smiled and shook his head. "Even if he was injured, he has already recovered."

With her current self-healing ability, any injury can be restored at a visible speed. Apart from needing to recover her physical strength, there is no need to worry about injuries at all.

At this moment, Logan noticed Marcus walking at the very back.

He stared blankly at McCain's body on the ground, his face filled with disappointment and grief. Silently, he stepped forward, placed McCain's head against his neck, and slowly closed his eyes, saying in a deep voice, "You chose the wrong path..."

Everyone looked at him silently, without saying a word.

They all understood how Marcos felt.

McCarthy used to be their role model, their faith. Everyone on the farm worked together towards his goal, only to find out in the end that they were actually complete fools, tricked and sold out while still counting the money for the seller.

After learning McCain's true identity, he felt a sense of faith collapsing. Now, seeing his corpse, he was overwhelmed with mixed feelings and could only sigh.

Seeing Marcus's dejected expression, Logan sighed helplessly, stepped forward, and gently patted him on the shoulder. "Let's go. He's not worth your sadness."

McCain is an extreme egoist who is willing to abandon anyone for his own purposes. In his eyes, the people on the farm are nothing more than pawns.

Such a person deserves to die; to pity him would be a betrayal of oneself.

After saying that, Logan turned and walked out of the canyon, saying, "Lorna and the others have been rescued. We need to hurry back and find a new shelter."

If McCain is a Hydra agent, then Hydra must already know the coordinates of the two farms. If he continues to live there, he will probably be surrounded by Hydra agents again soon.

Moira's underground shelter in New York has been completely destroyed.

If they want to survive, they need to find a safe place to live.

Marcus nodded, stood up, looked at McCa's body, and sighed. "Wait for me a moment. I'll go get a can of gasoline. After all, we were acquaintances."

After saying that, McCa walked toward the car behind him.

Although McCain deserved to die for betraying them, Marcus still wanted to give his former role model a proper send-off, at least not to leave him to rot in the wilderness. This was his last act of loyalty.

Logan nodded and stood aside waiting for him.

A short while later, Marcus returned with a gasoline can, poured it on McCain's body, and carefully set it on fire.

Peng!

With the help of gasoline, the fire was ignited instantly, and McCa's body was completely engulfed in flames. A burnt smell filled the air, and the intense heat of the fire illuminated the entire canyon.

After glancing at the corpse in the fire, Marcus let out a breath. "Let's go."

After saying that, he turned and left.

He had no intention of burying McCa; burning him to prevent his body from being eaten by desert vultures was already the greatest act of kindness.

Amidst raging flames and billowing black smoke, the group boarded the vehicle and left the canyon, the black smoke gradually disappearing on the horizon behind them.

It was already past midnight, the moon was gradually setting, and a faint light was beginning to appear on the horizon.

Victor drove the car into the city, and they did not go to find the Hydra contact again.

Now that Charles and his men have been rescued and McCain is dead, Hydra can no longer threaten them, and naturally they will no longer obediently hand over the goods they have obtained to Hydra.

The group found a hotel in the downtown area to rest temporarily. Logan contacted Steve and told him about his situation. Steve told them to wait where they were and that he had already arranged for someone from S.H.I.E.L.D. to come and pick them up.

In his hotel room, Logan quickly washed up, then sat on the bed, looking at the intercepted suitcase.

The box was still unopened, and Logan had no idea what was inside.

However, judging from the attitudes of Hydra and McCain towards this thing, it is definitely very important.

After thinking for a moment, Logan picked up the box.

The box was heavy; an average adult would need both hands to lift it, but for Logan's strength, the weight was nothing.

He placed the box on the table and carefully opened it.

To his astonishment, the box contained only a few well-sealed metal blocks, perfectly encased in plastic. Each block was about the size of an arm and reflected the unique luster of metal under the light.

"This is... vibranium?"

Logan stared at the metal blocks for a moment, then quickly guessed their material.

After all, the only thing that Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. would take so seriously is vibranium.

Logan had little contact with vibranium; the only one he had ever seen was Steve's round shield.

He picked up a piece of metal.

Even though there was a plastic film between them, you could still feel the coldness of the metal when you touched it.

It was very heavy. Although it was only the size of a human forearm, Logan felt that it was several times heavier than ordinary metal.

Logan couldn't resist reaching out and tapping it, the metal making a crisp sound.

"It really is vibranium."

Feeling the texture, Logan was certain that this was vibranium.

He fought Steve, and Steve's round shield feels pretty much the same.

"No wonder McCain and the others were so interested in this shipment; it turns out it's this treasure."

Logan looked at the vibranium in his hand and couldn't help but mutter to himself.

This thing is a treasure anywhere outside of Wakanda.

Looking at the vibranium, Logan suddenly sighed and shook his head helplessly, saying, "Unfortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D. probably already knows what this thing is."

Touching the cold vibranium, Logan's eyes were filled with regret.

With S.H.I.E.L.D. involved this time, this thing is definitely doomed. Otherwise, Logan would have really wanted to keep it, as vibranium is very useful to them now.

Just as Logan was reflecting on this, there was a knock on the door, and Victor walked in. "Logan, the people from S.H.I.E.L.D." are here.

"Um."

Logan nodded, put the vibranium back in the box, and closed the lid. "Let's go."

After saying that, he picked up the suitcase and walked out.

S.H.I.E.L.D. arranged a special plane for them to fly to Canada, and the group arrived in Canada under the escort of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents spoke very little during the journey, and even looked at them with a somewhat fierce gaze.

Logan could understand, though. After all, they had clashed quite a few times before, and he had even killed a number of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. These guys were already very restrained by not attacking directly, so Logan didn't expect them to be nice to him.

Fortunately, aside from their less-than-ideal complexions, they still provided all the necessary services, including food and blankets, allowing Logan and the others, who hadn't slept all night, to get a comfortable sleep on the plane.

After a fast drive, the group returned to the farm at noon the next day and met Steve, who was waiting for them there.

Besides Steve, many S.H.I.E.L.D. task forces patrolled the farm, completely protecting it.

"You're finally back."

Upon meeting, Steve, seeing Logan's long journey, quickly came over to greet him.

Logan nodded and handed over the vibranium in his hand. "The goods are all here. You can check them."

He didn't dare hand the item over to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, since no one knew if Fury had completely cleaned up S.H.I.E.L.D. If he hadn't, there might be Hydra agents among them. Only by handing it over to Steve Logan could he feel more at ease.

Steve took the box, glanced at it, and nodded with a smile, saying, "You've had a long journey. If these things fell into the wrong hands, who knows what kind of weapons they might be turned into."

After saying that, he looked back and asked, "Where is your traitor?"

He already knew that McCain on Logan's side was a Hydra agent, which is why he cooperated with Logan to destroy Strucker's base and rescue Logan's people.

Logan's mission is to help S.H.I.E.L.D. retrieve the shipment.

This is why S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers did not appear in this interception mission.

Otherwise, if there had been such a big commotion, that canyon would have been surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel long ago.

Logan shook his head. "I've already killed him. That guy was strong, and we didn't have a restraint collar, so the chances of capturing him were too low. We had no choice but to kill him."

Steve's side naturally hoped to capture McCain, hoping to extract a lot of information about Hydra.

But Logan didn't want him to live, and even if he had the chance to capture him alive, Logan wouldn't let him live.

After all, he had already discovered his thermal vision and flight capabilities, and this information absolutely could not be leaked.

Otherwise, if S.H.I.E.L.D. found out about this, they wouldn't care about Steve's objections and would definitely arrest him for investigation.

After all, the mystery of the X-gene mutation is important to both Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D.

Regarding Logan's killing of McCa, Steve nodded understandingly, then, holding the box containing vibranium, said, "I'll take this and put it away first. You go into the farm first; there are quite a few people waiting for you."

Logan nodded and led Victor and the others back to the farm.

The farm was noticeably more crowded at this time.

After all, nowadays, in addition to the people from the previous McCa farm, there are also Moira's people, making a total of more than two hundred people crammed together.

Some of them knew Logan and greeted him, but Logan didn't have time to chat with them and headed back to the cabin where he had stayed before.

Inside the house, the professor, Caliban, Laura, Lorna, and others were all sitting in the living room.

They all knew from Steve that Logan would be back today, and they all gathered here.

Upon hearing the door open, everyone quickly turned around.

When they saw that it was Logan returning, they all quickly stood up and surrounded him.

Laura jumped up and flew into Logan's arms, her cute little face full of excitement.

"You're finally back."

Caliban pushed the professor up to Logan and the others, looking at him with a sigh.

Although they had only been separated for a few days, those few days had almost been a matter of life and death for both sides. They were extremely worried about each other, and now that they were reunited, their anxiety was finally relieved.

Logan nodded, glanced at everyone, and breathed a sigh of relief after seeing that everyone was safe and sound.

"You weren't seriously injured, were you?"

Logan ruffled Laura's hair and asked a question.

During a video chat with Strucker, the guy seemed to mention hitting some people, and Logan was worried that it might be Laura and her group.

Lorna, standing to the side, shook her head: "We're all fine, but a few people were hit. Fortunately, they all received treatment and are alright now."

"That's good."

Logan was relieved.

As long as everything is alright, there is still hope.

"Logan, you have no idea how scared we've been these past few days."

Although he escaped danger, Caliban was still terrified. After all, being captured by Hydra meant his life was entirely in their hands, which had almost scared him to death.

Looking at Caliban's appearance, Logan shook his head helplessly. "It's alright now, we're safe for the time being."

After saying that, he glanced at the SHIELD task force patrolling outside the window.

At least for now, the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. is willing to cooperate with them means that there shouldn't be any conflict between them in the short term. The enemies they will face next are probably just Hydra and the SWAT team, which reduces the pressure considerably.

With Hydra's base in the vicinity destroyed, it may be difficult for them to regroup in the area in the short term. For them, this may mean a period of relative ease.

Upon hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Safety is perhaps the most exciting thing for them right now.

Everyone returned to the living room and sat down, and Lorna poured water for them.

Charles, however, asked curiously, "When did you find out about Maika's identity?"

According to Steve, he already knew that the reason they were surrounded by Hydra was entirely because of McCain.

What intrigued Charles was how Logan knew about McCa's well-hidden existence.

It should be noted that even his own telepathy could not detect the malice in McCain's heart, which is enough to show that McCain's mind is too deep, and sometimes he has even deceived himself.

Logan smiled bitterly, recalling the night he met Hans.

If it weren't for the video provided by Hans that night, he would still be kept in the dark. Even though he had some suspicions about McCain at the time, he ultimately trusted him more.

It was that video that confirmed his true identity as McCa; it could be said that Hans helped him see McCa's true colors completely.

After a sigh, Logan recounted the whole story to everyone.

He added at the end, "The video that strange guy showed me was footage of McCain and Strucker's deal, which is how I figured everything out."

Upon hearing this, Charles fell into deep thought. After a long while, he said, "It seems they have been helping us all along. Perhaps they really are his descendants. Maybe we should go and meet him sometime. Even if they are not his descendants, we should still thank them in person."

Logan nodded; he knew that the person Charles was referring to was Beast Hank.

Charles is right. Regardless of whether he is Hank's descendant or not, they did help him, and he should thank them in person.

After chatting for a while, there was a knock on the door. Steve came in and invited Logan to come out and talk. Logan went out, and the two walked in the woods.

"Strucker got away. That guy's clever; he escaped the moment we attacked, and our men couldn't catch him."

As Steve walked through the woods, he recounted the outcome of the incident, "Fortunately, all his men were captured, and the lair was completely destroyed. They shouldn't be able to cause any trouble for a while."

Hearing Steve's words, Logan nodded solemnly, "Thank you for this."

If it weren't for Steve's help, he might still be under the control of Strucker and McCain, since they held Charles and the others' lives in their hands.

It was only because Steve rescued the person that he dared to break ties with McCain.

"You are welcome."

Steve smiled. "I'd be happy to participate in the mission to wipe out Hydra. Those bastards should have been wiped out during World War II. I never expected them to have lasted this long."

Logan just smiled and shook his head. "Not only have they not been wiped out, but they've become increasingly difficult to deal with. Now, I'm truly locked in a life-or-death struggle with them."

He looked ahead and sighed.

Hydra is known for its vengeful nature, and once this incident is over, they will definitely try their best to deal with him when they have the chance. This made Logan feel a little uneasy.

Steve saw through Logan's thoughts and said, "Logan, join us. Fight alongside me just like we did in World War II. We'll help you solve the problems facing mutants and protect them."

Logan looked up at Steve's serious expression and couldn't help but smile wryly at his naivety. He then shook his head. "I appreciate your kindness, but... I really can't agree."

Nowadays, besides Hydra, government organizations also see mutants as a thorn in their side, and they are unwilling to see mutants grow stronger.

Even if Logan joins Steve, he is destined to be under government control, which he cannot accept.

Hearing Logan's words, Steve was disappointed, but he didn't insist anymore.

"Since that's the case, I won't say anything more. I hope we won't be enemies next time we meet."

He looked up at the task force surrounding the woods and murmured, "I'll temporarily withdraw the S.H.I.E.L.D. task force tonight. Take this opportunity to leave with your men. S.H.I.E.L.D. is very dissatisfied with you right now, so this is the only way. Just hurry up and leave before they get back. I'll explain to Fury."

Logan was taken aback, then smiled. He knew this was the greatest help Steve could offer him at the moment.

After all, it's impossible for so many mutants to leave openly under the noses of so many task forces.

"Thanks."

Logan nodded solemnly to Steve, offering his sincere thanks to his old friend.
