Chapter 14 Things Have Changed

Boom boom boom!

The knocking was unusually loud, and Victor kept shouting into the door, "Eld, you know what I'm capable of. If you don't open the door, I'll make tonight a night you'll never want to remember!"

But there was still no response from inside. Even looking through the peephole, all one could see was complete darkness, with no lights on.

"Not home?"

Logan looked at the unresponsive room. "Looks like your boss's information was wrong."

No, there is a sound.

Victor pressed his ear to the door, his keen senses allowing him to hear subtle movements inside.

Instantly, Victor's face turned fierce. "Damn it, this guy's trying to escape!"

After saying that, Victor quickly took two steps back and slammed his shoulder against the door.

The flimsy wooden door was smashed open in an instant.

Logan then turned on the switch on the wall, and the house lights came on.

Victor's gaze was fixed on a white man standing on the balcony, about to climb out the window and escape. He was disheveled, and most of his body was already leaning out.

"Edel, don't even think about leaving!" Victor darted forward like a bullet.

Upon seeing Victor charging towards him, Edel's expression changed drastically. Without hesitation, he jumped out of the window and crashed heavily into the garbage heap below.

He kicked away the trash at his feet and was about to run out of the alley.

Seeing this, Victor didn't hesitate and jumped down, chasing closely behind him.

Logan stood by the window, watching the two figures, then glancing at their height.

In the past, such a height would have been effortless for him, but now he was a little worried that his body might not be able to withstand it.

Seeing that the two were about to run far away, Logan took a deep breath and jumped down, chasing after Victor.

"Stop right there, you can't escape!"

Victor yelled at Edel, his pace quickening.

Edel, his face filled with panic, kept looking back to check the distance between them, shouting, "Stop chasing! Give me a few more days, I'll definitely raise the money!"

Victor said no more, and pounced like a tiger, his broad body pinning Eder down, grabbing his arm and twisting it behind his back, his knee striking Eder's back.

The pain from falling to the ground and the twisted arm made Edel groan in agony.

"No, no, no! Be gentle, you'll break my hand!"

Edel looked miserable, with dark circles under his eyes indicating he hadn't slept for days, and his body reeked of an unpleasant odor of sweat, clearly indicating he had been spending many nights at the casino.

Without a word, Victor slammed his massive fist into Eder's back, making him beg for mercy.

After a flurry of punches, Victor reached into his pocket and pulled out more than a thousand dollars in cash.

"That's all?"

Victor looked at the money in his hand. "This isn't even enough to cover the interest!"

"This is all I have left. Even if you kill me, I won't have any more."

Edel's voice trembled with a hint of tears as Victor's knee pressed against his back, making it difficult for him to even breathe.

Victor frowned, his gaze falling on a watch on Edel's wrist, one of the few things the guy had that was worth a few dollars.

He ripped the watch off, then stood up with a look of disgust, snarling, "You'd better hurry up and gather the money, or next time I come, I'll take at least one of your arms!"

After saying that, he stuffed the money and watch into his pocket and turned to leave.

At that moment, Edel grabbed Victor's trouser leg, knelt down, and cried, tears streaming down his face, "Please, leave me a few hundred dollars. I'm on a really good run lately. Two days—no, one day—I'll definitely win it all back in one day!"

Victor turned to look at him, then kicked him hard away. "Get lost, or I'll cripple your legs!"

His fierce expression resembled that of a tiger eyeing its prey.

Edel seemed to sense the murderous intent emanating from Victor, and trembled with fear. He dared not linger any longer and hurriedly got up and fled.

Logan watched Eder run off into the distance and chuckled, "You're quite skilled at your job."

He has no sympathy for gamblers; they're all a bunch of lunatics.

Victor, however, didn't care. "That's how you have to be with these guys. They'll never think about paying you back until they're missing a single part of their body."

After saying that, he walked towards the street exit. "Let's go, I still need to give the money to Mr. Notland."

Led by Victor, the two arrived at a casino that wasn't very large.

"Mr. Notland is a well-known wealthy businessman in this area. He runs several small casinos, which mostly cater to ordinary people."

Victor walked toward the casino, introducing it to Logan beside him as he went.

Two bodyguards in black suits stood at the entrance of the casino.

They clearly knew Victor well, and said with a smile, "Victor, you've finally arrived. The boss is waiting for you upstairs."

After they finished speaking, they noticed Logan, who was standing next to Victor, and asked warily, "And who is this?"

Victor introduced, "This is my friend James, he's here to visit me for a few days."

The bodyguard nodded, glanced at Logan, and, concluding that the man, who looked to be in his sixties, posed no threat, smiled and said, "Go in. If your friend is interested, he can have some fun on the first floor. The place is quite lively tonight."

Victor nodded silently, and the two walked into the casino together.

Yikou was a bustling gambling venue, where frenzied gamblers surrounded the gambling tables, shouting and throwing out chips, their shrill voices making it extremely unpleasant to listen to.

The two did not linger and went straight up to the second floor, arriving at an office.

"Wait here for me, I'll be out soon."

After Victor finished speaking, he knocked on the office door and went in.

Logan stood in the outer corridor, looking around.

Compared to the chaos of the casino below, this place is very quiet, with excellent soundproofing materials blocking out all the noise from the first floor.

There's a window along the corridor that overlooks a clear river. The river reflects the bustling Las Vegas skyline, and the golden lights illuminate the entire river, making it look like a flowing river of gold.

"The scenery is quite nice."

Logan stood by the window, gazing at the scenery outside.

boom!

Suddenly, a dull thud of a table being slammed echoed through the office, followed by a string of fierce curses.

"A thousand dollars? What can a thousand dollars do? That kid owes fifty thousand dollars! Fifty thousand dollars! If you can't get it back, are you going to compensate me? Do I look like someone who's short of a thousand dollars?!"

"Victor, remember this: I'm the one who feeds you. If you keep doing this shoddy work, then get out of here! I don't keep good-for-nothings like you!"

"Where is that kid?"

"What?! You actually let him go?! Are you an idiot? Before you let him go, could you at least use your donkey-like brain to think? Now that you've let him escape, where are you going to find him next time? What about my 50,000 yuan?!"

"My God, Victor, did I hear that right? How much is his apartment worth? It's a place even homeless people avoid. You expect him to come back? I really overestimated you. You're such a brainless piece of trash, I can hardly consider you a human being!"

"Even if you had caught him and sent him to the illegal mine, you could have at least made up for some of the losses. But you let him go! Are you carrying a pile of shit on your shoulders?!"

"..."

Logan listened to the sounds inside, clenched his fists helplessly, and walked to the door, waiting to go in and support Victor after he started fighting.

He knew his brother's personality very well. At that moment, his volatile temper was like a powder keg. If anyone dared to insult him or even raise their voice at him, he would tear them to shreds with his tiger claws.

Logan believes that a conflict tonight is probably inevitable.

To Logan's astonishment, after waiting for several minutes, he not only couldn't hear any fighting sounds, but he also couldn't hear Victor's rebuttal.

Five minutes later, Notland finally finished swearing, and only then did Victor's response come through.

"Get out! If you do this again, don't bother coming back!"

The final conversation was Nordland's order to leave.

Victor pushed open the door and stepped out, his face devoid of any extreme emotion. He simply said, "Let's go."

Logan looked at Victor, hesitated to speak, and even felt a pang of heartache in his eyes.

He had no idea what Victor had gone through over the decades.

He was once a god of war on the battlefield, and his name was enough to terrify his enemies to the point of losing control of their bladders.

But in just over a decade, the Victor in his heart had vanished, replaced by a guy who would willingly endure insults and even be pointed at and humiliated without fighting back.

If Victor was a sharp blade that could hurt people before, he is now as smooth as a pebble!

At that moment, Logan realized that Victor had truly changed.
