Chapter 12 Paper Wedding

Qin Jin and Alessa remained motionless, like two stones hidden in the shadows.

Luke, carrying the paper bride, rapidly approached, about to pass within ten meters of their hiding place—

In my perception, the absurd scene of running with the paper figure on his back was like water with a stone thrown in, quickly twisting and shattering!

What unfolds before my eyes is a vibrant and enchanting scene:

Luke carried a stunningly beautiful woman dressed in a bright red wedding gown on his back. The silk swayed in the wind, and the gold threads flowed in the dim light. Her long, black hair fell over Luke's shoulders and trembled with each step he took!

That face was breathtakingly beautiful! Her skin was as white as snow, her lips as red as cinnabar, and her eyes held a captivating charm that was both alluring and strangely tinged with a heartbreaking vulnerability.

She nestled softly against the back of the hero who saved her, her eyes filled with admiration!

The sudden scene startled Qin Jin and Alessa. At the same time, Luke had already carried her past them.

In that instant, the woman turned her head slightly without warning, her eyes glancing at Qin Jin with no surprise, fear, or any emotional fluctuation, like a poisoned needle!

The whole process took less than three seconds, and in the blink of an eye, Luke had already carried her into the forest.

"Walk!"

Like two shadows blending into the night, the two abandoned concealment and, following the direction Luke was running, unleashed inhuman speed to give chase!

The Frankenstein doll in Alessa's arms fluttered as she ran at high speed.

"Bang! Bang!"

Two muffled yet highly penetrating gunshots suddenly rang out from the direction of the camp behind us!

It seemed that Constanze had finally found an opportunity to change his bullets, but he emptied his chamber in an instant.

Qin Jin and Alessa glanced back almost simultaneously.

At the edge of the flickering campfire, Constanze's figure was completely engulfed!

Dozens, even hundreds, of pale paper figures, like piranhas that have smelled blood, covered his entire body in a dense mass!

The muzzle of the rune revolver still seemed to be emitting blue smoke, but it had clearly only shattered the outermost few.

Constantine's towering body writhed violently beneath countless pale white paper scraps. The light of the sacred knuckle duster flickered wildly through the gaps in the paper scraps, each flicker accompanied by the hissing sound of the paper scraps being burned and dented, and a flash of white light.

But more pieces of paper were pasted on top, layer upon layer, as if wrapping him in a pale, heavy shroud!

His movements were becoming heavy and stiff at a visible speed, as if he were carrying a tremendous burden, and the muzzle of the runic revolver was slowly drooping...

Qin Jin turned around and continued to chase, but Luke was very fast in the forest, and he couldn't catch up with him for a while!

"Alessa! Go!" Qin Jin shouted, "Stop them! But don't lay a hand on them, I have questions for the bride!"

Alessa paused briefly while running, then leaped into the air, her petite figure carrying the Frankenstein monster in her arms, soaring into the sky and suddenly shooting towards a large tree in front of her!

Click!

With a crisp sound, she had accurately grabbed a tree branch. Without the slightest hesitation, she used the force of the grab to shoot her body in an arc, like a human bullet, towards a tree further away!

Whoosh—snap!

Another precise catch! Another powerful shot!

She used tree branches as fulcrums to launch herself forward through the dense forest, ignoring the terrain!

Each ejection covered a distance of more than ten meters, and each grab emitted the groans of the tree branches as they groaned under the strain.

Her speed instantly left Qin Jin, who was running on his own two legs across the complex terrain, far behind!

Like a gothic sprite rampaging through the forest, with deadly precision and silent fury, it charged straight at Luke, who was carrying the paper bride and running wildly ahead!

Qin Jin unleashed the full speed of a zombie, sprinting wildly through the slippery, rugged woodland, finally stopping at the edge of a slightly open clearing.

Aresa's face was tense as she pointed the gun at the scarlet paper figure on Luke's back, exuding an overwhelming sense of pressure.

Luke stood frozen in place, like a puppet.

The moment Qin Jin stepped into the open space and came within ten meters of the paper figure, the scene distorted!

He saw the pitiful bride in red makeup clinging to Luke's back again. She had turned her head, and her captivating eyes were fixed precisely on Qin Jin.

Then--

The woman slid off Luke's back instantly and stood silently on the ground, while Luke's stiff body floated straight up, over his head, and finally hung lightly on the canopy of a tall oak tree, about ten meters above the ground, suspended upright like a marionette.

The paper bride stood alone in the center of the open space, her cold gaze fixed on Qin Jin:

"Are you going to be my enemy?"

The pressure hit him hard, and Qin Jin immediately raised his hand to indicate that he didn't mean it that way. He spread his hands:

"Oh, no, that's not what I meant at all!" He dragged out the last syllable, sounding somewhat languid.

"I was just passing by, watching the commotion, and by the way... I wanted to discuss something with you."

The phantom in red makeup seemed not to move, but the gaze beneath the veil seemed even colder.

Qin Jin clicked his tongue, as if organizing his thoughts:

"Look, I'm about to become a police officer at the Canyon Precinct. This area is in our jurisdiction," he said, pointing in a general direction.

"So, you've been quite active in the community lately... well, you see, this is causing trouble, isn't it?"

He sighed, as if complaining about the neighbor's dog always pooping on the lawn, "You're putting me in a very passive position."

"So?" The cold female voice carried a hint of probing.

"So, I'd like to discuss this with you."

Qin Jin shrugged, as if to say, "Let's talk this over."

"Let's see if we can... um, take a break for a while, like ten or twenty years? Or maybe go somewhere else? As long as it's not in this canyon area."

His tone was casual yet sincere. "Of course, if you have any...trouble? Or want anything? We can talk about it, but let's try not to fight and keep a low profile."

A brief silence fell over the open space. Only the rustling of leaves in the night wind could be heard.

After a long silence, the cold voice rang out again, filled with a deep-seated hatred, yet seemingly less direct in its hostility due to Qin Jin's attitude:

"Help me, kill every man in that family! The Tong family of Wushengtang in San Francisco!"

Qin Jin knew this name... and it even seemed somewhat familiar.

This is a long-established Chinese community in San Francisco, with a history dating back to the Gold Rush era.

They started out as a laundromat and later became a behemoth controlling the opium trade on the West Coast, with the former "Chinatown Mayor" wielding immense power.

Although much of their reputation has been whitewashed, the roots remain, and the family line is still quite extensive.

"The Tong family..."

Qin Jin stroked his chin, as if recalling something:

"I know a bit. The current head of this family is probably one of three brothers, with seven or eight children, and in the next generation... there might be more than a dozen... That's more than a dozen people in total, at least half of them are men! Kill them all?"

His tone didn't betray much surprise; it sounded more like he was assessing the workload.

"You've got quite a few targets, miss."

"yes!"

The cold voice was resolute and filled with boundless hatred:

"A hundred years ago, the Tong family smothered me to death with paper and arranged a marriage for their bastard son who died young—the Tong family's head at the time! Old dog Tong! I killed people to wipe out all the men in the Tong family!"

"The enmity runs deep, and he deserves to be killed!" Qin Jin nodded in understanding.

"Alright, but killing over a dozen people is too much work and a huge waste of time!"

"How about this?" Qin Jin held up three fingers:

"Give me three months, and I'll kill those three brothers for you. You can stay home for ten years and not do anything, okay?"

"No, we must... kill them all!" The paper bride's icy voice immediately refused, filled with the urgency of revenge.

"Not a single one can be left alive!"

"Fine, whatever you want," Qin Jin thought, "who do you think you can control? Seeing that things aren't going well, you immediately back down."

"Keep killing, I don't care anymore. I'll find a way to transfer to another police station, that'll be easier!"

After saying that, he immediately snapped his fingers at Alessa, who put away her gun, and the two of them turned and left, swiftly and decisively.

You expect me to do things for you without offering any benefits? Dream on! You can't sue me for violating a woman's will, can you? I can't be bothered with you!
