Chapter 132 The Cooking of Fallen Souls

Chapter 132 The Cooking of Fallen Souls

Green Building is an old apartment building located on the edge of Chinatown, and it appears somewhat dilapidated and desolate.

The same was true on the 17th floor. The corridor was dimly lit, and the air was filled with the smell of dust and old carpet. As soon as you stepped out of the elevator, you felt a particularly chilly feeling.

Detective Hansen and his partner, Agent Duke, were guarding the door of No. 8. When they saw Qin Jin and his group arrive, they immediately came to greet them, their expressions somewhat unpleasant.

"Detective Qin, Detective Carter."

Hansen rubbed his arms. "This is it. The door's open, and our men are guarding it inside. This godforsaken place—it's fucking cold!"

Qin Jin nodded and went inside first.

The apartment was colder inside than in the hallway. This cold was not caused by air conditioning, but by a damp and chilly chill, as if one were in the depths of a dark cellar or tomb.

The air was filled with the strange smell Carter had described—

It had a strange, rotten smell that made people feel uncomfortable and suffocated.

The room was simply furnished, with a sofa, dining table, and television outside, just like a home. Upon entering, Qin Jin and Alessa looked up almost simultaneously at the Bagua mirrors nailed to the two doors.

These two Bagua mirrors weren't very new, but they weren't ancient either. They looked like modern handicrafts, having been enshrined in front of a Buddha statue for a period of time. They were fine for dealing with ordinary wandering ghosts, but they weren't enough for beings like Qin Li and Aresa.

Qin Jin tugged at Alessa, stopping her from trying to draw her gun, and then instructed Sheriff Carter to take the gossip away, put it away, and bring it back with him.

Inside was a separate, exceptionally large kitchen. The wooden crate Carter had mentioned was placed on the worktable, next to which were tools such as knives, a meat grinder, and a cutting board.

The tools were all ordinary, nothing special. As Qin Jin walked to the door of the control room, the cold, fishy smell became even stronger.

Qin Jin didn't intend to touch these things; the lingering yin energy on them would bring bad luck, so he would avoid them if possible.

"Have you asked the building manager how many people still live on this floor?"

“We just asked him downstairs,” Hansen’s partner replied. “He said almost no one lives on this floor anymore; most of the other residents have moved out. The building manager hesitated for a moment, and finally said that this floor is unclean and haunted! He said he often hears children crying and running around at night, but when he opens the door, there’s nothing there. So the rent is very low and no one wants to come.”

Just then, out of the corner of his eye, Qin Jin caught a glimpse of something flashing by in the dimly lit corridor leading from the living room to the bedroom!

It was like a semi-transparent shadow, moving extremely fast, but distorted and blurry, before disappearing into the wall.

Almost simultaneously, Alessa also noticed this thing. She seemed a little puzzled and glanced at Qin Jin, but because there were outsiders present, she didn't say anything.

Qin Jin remained silent, simply surveying the entire room without making a sound.

The walls were mottled, dust piled up in the corners, and the air seemed to be filled with countless unseen sorrows and fears.

Those fleeting afterimages, the lingering sound of broken weeping—there are too many fragmented spirits here. It seems that the secret of this beauty soup lies in this!

The woman called "Master" did not commit a crime, but what she did was not a good thing!

"No need to send it for testing." Qin Jin withdrew his gaze and said to Hansen in a calm tone, "Seal these tools as important evidence. Completely seal off this apartment; no one is allowed to enter without my permission. Tell the building manager to keep his mouth shut."

"Yes, Detective Qin!" Hansen replied immediately. Although he didn't understand why no tests were needed, he carried out Qin Jin's orders without hesitation.

"I remember, abortion is legal in California, right?"

Qin Jin thought for a moment and said to Detective Hansen, "Follow the trail along the desk! Black market doctors, private clinics, all institutions with less stringent regulations—the key point is only one: how do they handle the surgical results, especially those from recent surgeries, within four or five months? Is anyone buying them privately?"

Detective Carter instantly realized something, followed by Detective Hansen, who turned his head in fear to look at the kitchen knives, almost forcibly suppressing the churning in his stomach: "You, you mean—this beauty soup is—is—"

Detective Carter and Agent Duke also looked incredulous, and some even gagged.

Only Qin Jin remained calm. He nodded slightly: "Yes! Just as you think, this is the secret of the beauty soup!"

After driving out of the underground parking lot of the Green Building, Qin Jin saw a few young men wearing oversized hoodies and covered in messy tattoos leaning against a wall in a back alley filled with trash cans, smoking. Several brightly colored motorcycles were parked next to them.

These people are second or third-generation Chinese Americans who have long been assimilated by the decadent culture of the United States and have picked up this bad habit at a young age.

Qin Jin's heart stirred. Since he was already in Chinatown, he might as well try to investigate the intelligence first. He dared not say he was confident, but he would just try his luck and see what happened!

Qin Jin pulled the Dodge to the side of the road and, when Carter and the others arrived, instructed them, "You guys drive forward and wait for me on the side of the road."

Carter followed Qin Jin's gaze and saw the group of thugs. He immediately understood what was going on, drove the car a few hundred meters away, and pulled over to the side of the road.

Just as Qin Jin was about to turn around, the phone rang. It was Director Edward: "Qin! How's the situation now?"

"This is tricky, Chief," Qin Jin said lazily, easing off the accelerator and stopping temporarily. "Calling so late, is something wrong?"

"Yes, I have something to discuss with you," Edward said directly, not hiding anything: "I heard that Justice Warling's grandson got into trouble, and you rescued him, but you asked him to have someone guard him—is there still any danger afterward?"

"I'm not sure yet. I have a feeling," Qin Jin said vaguely, "that supernatural being might still come looking for him—but I'm not sure. It's just a precaution."

"I see—" Director Edward thought for a moment, then finally got to the point: "Well, Justice Warling called me, saying—he'd like you to help keep watch tonight, how about that?"

At this point, he immediately added, "It's not a free favor; he's willing to pay an extra $10, plus a favor. What do you think?"

Qin Jin didn't know whether the ghost would go kill again that night, but even if it did, he couldn't care less. "I told you to be careful, and you still let your grandson get killed. Whose fault is that? Anyway, it has nothing to do with me."

However, now that he has approached Director Edward, things are very different. If he refuses and something goes wrong, he will definitely offend someone, and then there will be a lot more trouble.

Simply put, ignoring it won't work!

Qin Jin had no choice but to reluctantly agree to the request, and asked the bureau chief to tell him that he would go over at 9 or 10 p.m., which was enough to save face.

After hanging up the phone, Qin Jin continued with his business. He drove out, made a U-turn, and precisely parked his car at the entrance of the alley, completely blocking the way.

"Alessa, you stay inside." To prevent Alessa from hitting too hard, Qin Jin could only emphasize this.

Aresa glanced at the thugs outside the window, seemingly finding it uninteresting herself, and hummed in agreement before continuing to tease Yuanxiao.

The young men were startled, coughing as they dropped the leaves in their hands. They looked at the Asian man who got out of the car with suspicion and panic. He looked angry and fierce, with the violent temperament unique to gang members.

"Hey! You bastard! What do you think you're doing?"

A man with a rooster-like hairstyle pulled out a small knife and brandished it in his hand, trying to mask his inner unease with ferocity.

The other guys also straightened up, some pulling out steel pipes from the back of their motorcycles, others pulling out chains that served as belts.

Qin Jin didn't bother with any more words. He suddenly accelerated and rushed forward. Before the rooster-headed man could even swing his knife, an irresistible force sent him flying!

Bang!

The rooster-head motorcycle slammed heavily into the corner of the wall, which was full of garbage bags. The rest of the motorcycle crashed to the ground with a loud bang, and the protective shell and fenders were completely destroyed.

His body was curled up, groaning in pain, and he didn't even have the strength to cough.

This sudden violence instantly ignited a fight in the alley!

"Fuck! Get him!"

The other four thugs were both shocked and furious. They immediately charged forward, brandishing their weapons and attacking ruthlessly, clearly seasoned veterans of street brawls.

Qin Jin casually pulled a discarded stool from the trash can and slammed it down!

With a sharp crack, one was sent flying, and as it spun around, it slammed down on another's head—the movements were clean and swift.

The remaining two men had just rushed over when they were completely stunned by the overwhelming force of those two attacks. Holding their knives and baseball bats, they dared not attack, nor retreat.

Qin Jin kicked them both away with one kick each!

The alley was instantly filled with painful howls and groans. The five thugs who had been so arrogant just moments before were now lying sprawled among the sewage and garbage like tattered rag dolls that had been taken apart.

Qin Jin then picked up the baseball bat from the ground, banged it twice on the trash can, and shouted fiercely, "Listen up, you idiots! I'm here to get the money—"

Qin Jin squatted down, lifted the head of the first man with the rooster-like haircut, and stared into his terrified eyes: "That bastard Lin Hao! He took 6000 yuan worth of my goods, but he's dead. Now, I have no choice but to come to you for it—"
