Chapter 199: Meeting Captain America, the Formation of the Avengers
Chapter 199: Meeting Captain America, the Formation of the Avengers
Steve, standing to the side, didn't understand.
Natasha found it strange.
Even if there is a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D., that place is still one of the safest strongholds at present.
Why does Nick Fury trust Wanda and Pietro so much?
Just because these two young men are so strong?
She was full of doubts, but didn't ask any questions. She simply followed Nick Fury and Steve to Ye Feng's apartment.
"Oh, right, call Tony."
"Let him come over too."
Nick Fury added before getting into the car.
He knew that Wanda and her siblings had a good relationship with Tony Stark.
Now is the perfect opportunity, and he wants to directly push for the formation of the Avengers.
Hawkeye is away on a mission, and Banner's whereabouts are unknown, but with the current five people, the framework can be set up.
In less than half an hour, the group arrived at the apartment building.
The elevator ascended silently.
After the door opened, the apartment door at the end of the corridor seemed to sense their arrival and slowly opened inward.
A familiar layout, familiar people.
The moment Nick Fury stepped into the living room, his tense shoulders finally relaxed, and he let out a long breath.
"He was seriously injured."
Ye Feng closed the book in his hand and looked up.
His gaze lingered on Nick Fury for a moment, and the latter suddenly felt the dull pain in his chest disappear, as if he had never been injured.
Nick Fury instinctively pressed the spot where he had been shot; only the holes in his clothes and the bloodstains proved it wasn't a hallucination.
"----Thanks you."
He said in a low voice, this time using a respectful term.
"As I've said before, high positions aren't as easy to hold as you might imagine."
"When you lack ability, power becomes the most dangerous poison."
Ye Feng spoke in a calm tone.
Nick Fury remained silent.
He understood Ye Feng's implication: his presence was probably blocking someone's way.
"Who is this?"
Natasha and Steve's gazes fell on Ye Feng, and they were momentarily dazed.
The person in front of me doesn't seem very human.
That face was so perfect it was almost unreal, its calm demeanor carrying an undeniable sense of oppression; just sitting there quietly, it seemed to become the center of the space.
"Your Majesty Ye Feng."
"A deity who dwells on the earth."
Nick Fury explained.
He chose to tell the truth.
Ye Feng's existence will be exposed sooner or later, especially since Wanda and Pietro are still in the league. These two were raised by Ye Feng.
"Gods?"
Natasha raised an eyebrow, her tone carrying a professional skepticism.
Steve nodded cautiously in response, without immediately making a statement.
"Tony has arrived."
"Let him in."
Ye Feng suddenly spoke, his gaze turning towards the doorway.
Upon hearing this, Pietro's figure flickered and disappeared from the spot.
Less than two seconds later, the apartment door opened again, and Pietro walked in with a puzzled-looking Tony Stark.
Wow, it's so lively!
"Wait, you look familiar—"
Tony scanned the living room, his gaze lingering on Steve.
"sit."
Ye Feng raised his hand in greeting.
Everyone sat down one after another.
The sofa was wide enough, but the atmosphere was inexplicably heavy.
"It's up to you now."
Ye Feng said to Nick Fury.
Fury nodded, took out an encrypted hard drive from his pocket, but after thinking for a moment, put it back and turned to look at Pietro.
Pietro understood, and his figure disappeared again, returning the next second with several paper documents, handing one to each person present.
"Paper documents?"
"Still using this these days?"
Tony took it and started flipping through it.
"Safety."
Nick Fury gave a simple answer.
Everyone lowered their heads to read.
As the pages were turned, the air in the living room grew increasingly heavy.
The documents document the truth behind the Skrull invasion more than a decade ago, as well as the Destroyer armor from the Battle of New York and the struggle for Asgard's throne.
"so."
"You want to form an extraordinary team independent of national governments, specifically to deal with these kinds of crises?"
Steve was the first to look up.
"That's right."
Nick Fury nodded.
Tony tossed the documents onto the coffee table and leaned back on the sofa: "Frankly, I don't think any of us here are capable of handling this level of problem."
"I saw the battle in New York via satellite. Even Wanda and Pietro were suppressed by that giant metal block. What could we do up there? Be cannon fodder?"
Although he recognized Captain America, he did not believe that the World War II hero could handle an interstellar threat.
As for himself?
The suit is still being updated; during the last test, even Pietro's speed couldn't keep up.
"That's different."
"The Destroyer Armor is a top-tier artifact even in the entire universe, and there are very few forces that can oppose it."
Most of the crises we face will not reach that level.
Wanda opened her mouth.
Pietro nodded in agreement, adding, "That's right—"
Tony looked at Ye Feng, his eyes probing: "Is this the Your Majesty you always mention? A—true god walking among mortals?"
He had heard about Ye Feng from Wanda and her siblings before, but this was the first time he had seen him in person.
The person in front of him was indeed special. His presence was beyond reason, and even the most advanced facial recognition system failed. When Tony came in, the analysis interface in his glasses was a mess.
"Don't worry about that, I can provide the necessary assistance."
"If all goes well, you are not without the ability to deal with even a force like the Destroyer Armor."
"Only if you become my apostles."
Ye Feng said slowly.
Nick Fury's single eye flickered slightly.
He knew what Ye Feng meant by "apostle." He had once craved that power but had been rejected.
"I have no doubt about your divine status."
Tony turned to Ye Feng, his tone direct.
"But I'm curious, why are you helping us? Nick Fury, Wanda, Pietro, me, and now Steve and Natasha—I don't see what you have in us that you would want from us."
"Tony."
Wanda frowned, her tone carrying a warning.
Pietro also glanced over, clearly displeased with Tony's almost offensive question.
Ye Feng smiled, a smile that carried a profound meaning.
"I can answer that question."
"I chose you because I need to prepare. Soon, a catastrophe will sweep across the entire universe. I need more help."
He said.
"catastrophe?"
Could you elaborate?
Natasha repeated the word, her eyes sharp.
"You are not strong enough yet."
"Knowing too much is not beneficial. The most urgent task is to increase our strength, by any means necessary."
Ye Feng shook his head.
A brief silence fell over the living room.
The city lights outside the window shone through the glass, casting a soft halo on Ye Feng, making him look more like a statue than a living person.
"I'm joining."
Steve broke the silence.
He didn't have many ties; Wanda had helped him before. Besides, Bucky's brainwashing problem—perhaps also required Wanda's abilities to solve.
Natasha shrugged. "I have no objection. Anyway, Director Fury mentioned this idea to me a long time ago."
All eyes turned to Tony.
Tony remained silent, his fingers unconsciously tapping his knees.
He was weighing the risks, not just the safety of the decision, but also the potential chain reaction it might trigger.
"Tony."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. — Your father was one of the founders. He left something in the agency, saying it was for you."
Nick Fury suddenly spoke up.
Tony's body stiffened almost imperceptibly.
The word "father" Howard Stark always touches a complex corner of his heart.
"—What is that?"
He asked, his voice lower than usual.
"I'll take you to see it once you officially join."
"But you have to make a decision first."
Nick Fury said.
"OK."
"I'm joining. But let me make this clear first: if things don't go well, I'm leaving at any time."
Tony finally spoke.
"Can."
Nick Fury nodded.
Ye Feng smiled slightly and stood up from his seat.
As he moved, the light in the entire living room seemed to soften.
"Well then, welcome."
He raised his hand, and a few tiny specks of light appeared in his palm, like miniature stars.
"Becoming an apostle means establishing a connection with me. You will gain superhuman strength, but you will also bear the corresponding responsibilities. This path is not easy, and it's not too late to back out now."
No one moved.
The light from the seed of the microcosm drifted towards everyone and merged into their hearts.
There was no pain, only a warm current spreading throughout my body.
"This is just the beginning."
"Wanda and Pietro will assist you with the subsequent training and adaptation."
Ye Feng withdrew his hand.
"train?"
"I thought the apostles were the kind of people who instantly gained divine power."
Tony raised an eyebrow.
"Power needs to be harnessed."
"Especially the power that comes suddenly. The consequences of losing control—you don't want to see that."
Ye Feng looked at him.
As soon as he finished speaking, the clock in the living room struck one, indicating that it was exactly eight o'clock in the evening.
That's all for tonight.
"I will prepare confidentiality agreements and action frameworks for the detailed plans and follow-up arrangements."
Nick Fury stood up.
The crowd gradually stood up.
Tony glanced back as he reached the door. Ye Feng had already sat back down and picked up the book again, as if everything that had just happened was just a minor incident.
"What exactly is he?"
Tony asked Wanda in a low voice.
Wanda gazed at Ye Feng's retreating figure, her eyes filled with admiration.
"He is hope."
"It is also the last line of defense."
She said softly.
From childhood to adulthood, Ye Feng instilled a lot of knowledge in her. Although she had never left Earth, she had a very clear understanding of the current situation in the universe.
He naturally understood the significance of Ye Feng's existence.
Steve walked last, pausing briefly at the doorway.
He looked back at the apartment window and could vaguely see Ye Feng sitting quietly inside.
"What did you see?"
Natasha walked up to him and asked.
"calm."
"But the air around him was trembling."
Steve said.
A calm that held back tension, like the calm before the storm.
Natasha followed his gaze and after a long pause spoke, "Let's go. We'll be busy starting tomorrow."
The two turned and disappeared into the night.
In the apartment, Ye Feng closed his book and looked out the window at the distant Milky Way.
