Chapter 205 Odin Awakens
Chapter 205 Odin Awakens
The light of the Rainbow Bridge suddenly shone in the sky above Asgard, like lightning tearing through the heavens, and vanished in an instant.
After the beam of light dissipated, two figures staggered to the end of the bridge.
Thor and Loki were both covered in wounds and their armor was damaged.
Heimdall's golden eyes, capable of seeing through the nine realms, gazed upon the returning two, his gaze lingering particularly on Loki for a long time.
His voice was deep and complex: "Welcome back, Loki. I didn't expect we'd meet again so soon."
Loki steadied himself, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and gave a signature half-smile.
Heimdall continued, "You were banished from Asgard by the goddess Frigga in just a few months."
O
"His strength has leaped to such an extent that he can defeat Thor without relying on runes, solely through his Frost Giant bloodline and close combat skills."
His gaze swept over the lingering energy residue on Loki's body.
He paused, then said in a low voice, "This means that your current strength is approaching that of the Goddess herself."
Loki merely raised an eyebrow slightly, offering no response.
"Odin has awakened."
"While you're at war, you'd better think about how to explain all this to him."
Heimdall added, "Close your eyes."
Thor finally caught his breath, the hammer hanging at his waist: "Heimdall, Father—"
"Go see him yourself."
Heimdall interrupted, returning to that still state as if he had merged with the Rainbow Bridge.
The two exchanged a glance; Thor's eyes held a complex mix of worry, while Loki remained calm and composed. Then, dragging his battered body, they headed towards Asgard.
Inside the palace of Asgard, Odin, having ended his first eternal slumber, sat upon his throne.
The regaining control of his divine power significantly improved his condition: much of his originally gray hair turned back to black, the wrinkles on his face faded somewhat, and his lifespan was clearly extended.
When his two sons walked in through the gate, Odin's single eye held a complex and unreadable emotion.
He didn't look at Thor first, but looked directly at Loki.
Loki.
"Don't you have anything to say to me?"
Odin's voice echoed throughout the hall.
Loki raised his head, his face showing no fear or regret: "No. I just want to prove I'm better than Thor. Before, I wanted to prove it with the throne of Asgard; now, I'll prove it with my strength."
His voice was calm, as if he were stating a simple fact.
Odin sighed deeply and leaned forward slightly from his throne: "Loki, I have never thought you were inferior to Thor."
The selection of him to inherit the throne involved many complex factors and was not as simple as you might think.
He paused for a moment, his single eye sharply locking onto Loki: "What I'm more concerned about is, who bestowed upon you that strange power?"
This is what Odin is truly worried about.
He feared that Loki had made a deal with some unknown being in pursuit of power.
If it were an ordinary evil god, that would be fine, but if it were a demon god from a certain dimension, then the problem would be serious.
Loki's lips curled into an enigmatic smile: "A new god. A new god not even recorded in the pantheon of gods."
He met Odin's gaze: "He will come to see you, Father. Soon."
A thoughtful glint flashed in Odin's single eye.
Loki has been meticulous since childhood, with an extremely keen insight into people's hearts and emotions. Deceiving others is his forte, but he himself is very unlikely to be deceived.
Since Loki was so certain, Odin had no choice but to believe him a little more.
"Sol, go and rest."
"As for Loki... find a room and lock yourself in. Don't leave until I've figured out how to handle this."
Odin finally waved his hand.
Neither of them said anything more.
Thor glanced at Loki with concern, but the latter simply shook his head slightly, indicating that he didn't need to say anything more.
They each turned and left in different directions.
Odin sat alone on the throne, his fingers tapping lightly on the armrest.
When he was alone in the hall, he muttered to himself, "A new god...is there no record of him in the Pantheon? Loki, what kind of vortex have you been caught in this time?"
Three days later on Earth, Nick Fury stared at the report in his hand at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, his single eye filled with disbelief.
"So you mean..."
"Such a huge commotion, an alien invasion, the city center of New York City was turned upside down, and the number of casualties was zero?"
Not a single one?
He spoke slowly and deliberately.
Hill stood across the desk and nodded expressionlessly: "To be precise, the most severely injured were the thousands of citizens who were directly mind-controlled by Loki."
"But they only received a few days of psychological counseling in the hospital and suffered no permanent physical injuries. Apart from that, no civilians or combat personnel died."
Fury put down the report, leaned back in his chair, and tapped his fingers on the table.
Of all the people he knew, only one could do that.
"Ye Feng..."
He whispered the name.
Despite knowing Ye Feng for over a decade, Fury always felt that his understanding of Ye Feng was only superficial.
This person is like the deep sea, seemingly calm, but with many complex undercurrents hidden beneath.
"Does the catastrophe you're talking about really exist?"
"Or are you simply using Earth to achieve some unknown purpose?"
Fury looked out the window at the New York skyline and muttered to himself.
This alien invasion incident was a warning given by Ye Feng from the very beginning, and it ended in Ye Feng's own way.
Although most people don't remember Ye Feng's existence because of his own circumstances, Fury always felt that something was wrong with the whole thing.
Why didn't Wanda and Pietro directly confront Loki, but instead went to wipe out the Chitauri army?
Why did all the key evidence point to a pre-planned ending when the battle ended?
A series of questions swirled in Fury's mind, giving him a headache.
He pressed the communicator: "Have Barbara come to my office. We need to reassess some things."
At the same time, in a luxury apartment in New York.
As soon as Wanda and Pietro returned home, they saw Ye Feng sitting on the sofa in the living room, holding a seemingly ancient book in his hand.
"Your Majesty."
"That power within Loki... it's his cosmos, isn't it?"
Wanda nodded respectfully, then couldn't help but ask.
Ye Feng closed the book and smiled slightly: "That's right, it's the power of the cosmos. In a sense, Loki can now be considered my subordinate god."
Pietro raised an eyebrow in surprise: "God? Then why would he invade Earth? That doesn't make sense."
"Two reasons."
"First, it's to hone the Avengers. They need real combat experience and to learn how to cooperate against a common enemy. Second, Loki wants to have a fair fight with Thor. No tricks, no deception, just strength."
Ye Feng stood up and walked towards the floor-to-ceiling window.
He turned around, a profound glint in his eyes: "In a sense, this is a training exercise. Not just for the Avengers, but also for Loki himself."
"Training troops..."
"In preparation for an impending threat?"
Wanda seemed lost in thought.
Ye Feng nodded: "I'll be going to Asgard soon to see Odin. There are some things I need to confirm."
He walked to the liquor cabinet, poured a glass of amber liquid, and gently swirled it.
He has been in this multiverse where Ragnarok is about to take place for more than ten years, and his strength has improved slowly over the years.
When he first arrived, Gaia concealed his tracks, giving him time to secretly make his plans.
But now, he feels it's time to take the next step.
"The internal affairs of S.H.I.E.L.D. are now in your hands."
"Nick Fury is no longer of any use. His personality makes him unsuitable to be a true ally; he's too suspicious and too fond of being in control of everything."
Ye Feng took a sip of wine.
He looked at Wanda: "When the time is right, arrange for him to leave S.H.I.E.L.D. naturally. That organization will be key to our next plan."
"clear."
Wanda nodded without hesitation.
For more than a decade, she had learned to unconditionally trust Ye Feng's judgment.
If it weren't for Ye Feng, she and Pietro might have died in that experimental facility long ago, or become weapons of some organization.
Pietro, however, expressed some concern: "But Fury is not someone who is easy to deal with. He has been operating within S.H.I.E.L.D. for decades, and his informants are everywhere."
That's why timing is crucial.
"Wait until his own suspicions become the final straw that breaks the camel's back. Remember, the best manipulation is not coercion, but guiding the other person toward the ending you have in mind."
Ye Feng put down his wine glass.
He looked out the window again, his gaze seemingly piercing through space, reaching distant Asgard.
"Odin has awakened."
"The gears of Ragnarok have begun to turn."
Ye Feng said softly.
In Asgard, Loki sat on a simple bed in his confinement chamber, toying with a ball of icy blue energy in his hand.
The energy flowed between his fingers, sometimes turning into ice crystals, sometimes into streams of light.
The door to the solitary confinement cell suddenly opened, and Frigga stood outside.
She wore a simple robe and no royal ornaments, just like an ordinary mother visiting her son.
"Mother."
Loki withdrew his energy and stood up.
Frigga entered the room, and the door closed gently behind her.
She gazed at Loki, her eyes filled with both reproach and undisguised concern.
"Your father is very worried about you."
"That power, Loki... I can sense its unfamiliarity and immense strength. It's not any known magical system in the Nine Realms."
Frigga said directly.
Loki paused for a moment. "It's safe, Mother. At least for me."
"But what about Asgard?"
"And what about your father, Loki? There's nothing wrong with pursuing power, but you must know who you're dealing with."
Frigga took a step closer.
"He is neither a demon god nor an evil god."
"He is an observer. A god willing to give opportunities. He saw my potential, but Odin did not."
Loki looked intently at Frigga.
Frigga sighed, "Your father had his reasons and his difficulties. The succession to the throne has never been just about who is more capable—"
"I know."
"I know the millennia-long feud between Jotunheim and Asgard, and I know what kind of symbol is needed to maintain the balance of the Nine Realms. I know the political significance of Thor as the rightful heir to Asgard."
Loki interrupted her, his voice unusually calm.
He paused. "But none of that matters anymore, Mother. I no longer need the throne of Asgard to prove myself. I have a new path."
Frigga gazed at her son and suddenly realized that something fundamental about Loki had changed.
The Loki of the past, the son who always wore a disguise and used sarcasm and lies to cover up his true feelings, seems to have disappeared.
"This new god—"
"Will he come to Asgard?"
"Frigga asked slowly."
Loki nodded. "Soon. And when he arrives, many things will change."
Footsteps came from outside the confinement room, and Frigga knew it was the guards reminding her that time was up.
She gave Loki one last hug and whispered in his ear, "No matter what happens, you will always be my son."
After leaving the confinement room, Frigga didn't return to her palace, but went to Odin's study. There were some things she needed to talk to her husband about.
