Chapter 189, Leaving the Underground City, Reaching the Surface, Teaching Chanis a Lesson

Chapter 189, Chapter 188: Leaving the Underground City, Returning to the Surface, and Teaching Chanis a Lesson.

While Gu Yuan was challenging "Barro" deep in the underground city, the river of time in the surface world continued to flow quietly.

Two days later, in the early morning, sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, illuminating the cozy living room of the Star Garden.

Alexandra, with her slightly messy, fiery red hair, yawned widely and rubbed her sleepy eyes as she walked into the living room.

"Good morning, Kaguya~" She greeted the Japanese-style girl who was already sitting at the dining table, her posture as elegant as if she were performing a tea ceremony.

"Good morning." Kaguya was focused on the miso soup in front of her, without even lifting her eyelids.

Alexie sauntered into the bathroom, brushed her teeth in front of the mirror, and stared at her sleepy face in the mirror, muttering indistinctly, "Hmm—it's been several days already—I wonder how Ryu and Mr. Ko are doing now—no news at all, it's really worrying—"

Foam swirled around her lips, and her brows furrowed slightly, revealing an unconcealable longing.

Kaguya put down her soup bowl, picked up a tissue, and gently wiped her mouth. Her tone was calm and even: "With him here, what could possibly happen?"

"Instead of worrying about them, you should worry about whether that silly girl might suddenly fall in love and do something irrational in a place like the dungeon."

She paused, a faint hint of mockery in her voice, "After all, a man and a woman alone in a dangerous situation is the perfect breeding ground for unwanted feelings."

The phrase "springtime feelings" was like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, creating a barely perceptible ripple in Alexie's heart, causing her brushing her teeth to pause almost imperceptibly for half a second.

But she immediately shook her head vigorously, as if trying to shake off this inexplicable thought, and gargled even more vigorously, as if trying to wash away that strange emotion along with the foam in her mouth.

"No way! Leon is very serious and innocent!"

She rubbed her face haphazardly with a towel, then strode to the dining table, sat down, picked up a piece of bread, and took a big bite in a huff.

Just then, a crisp knock sounded on the door. "Knock, knock, knock," the sound was neither hurried nor slow, but it broke the tranquility of the morning.

"Who could it be so early?" Alexie frowned in confusion, swallowed the bread in her mouth, and got up to walk towards the entrance.

However, when she opened the door and saw the face with a formulaic smile standing outside, the sunlight on her face was clouded over.

Without thinking, he slammed the door shut with a loud bang, his movements swift and decisive.

"Who?" Kaguya looked up at the sudden noise.

Alexie sullenly sat back in her chair, forked a fried egg as if it were a substitute for the person outside the door: "It's that annoying guy! He's like a ghost!"

Kaguya immediately understood when she saw such an expression and heard such words from the usually cheerful and optimistic Alicia: "Is it that hypocritical captain of the Soma Familia again, Chanis Lustra?"

"Who else could it be but him?" Alexie said irritably, her delicate eyebrows furrowing. "He's definitely after Lily!"

"Just thinking about what they did to Lily makes me want to—" She gripped the fork tightly.

Kaguya nodded knowingly, a cold glint flashing deep in her eyes.

It was only a few days ago that the dark faction was quelled, and the clans were busy hunting down the remnants and dealing with the aftermath. They hadn't had time to investigate yet, which is why they were still able to buzz around outside like flies.

Outside the door, the gentle smile that Chanis had carefully maintained on his face froze completely the moment the door, carrying a forceful force, almost hit the tip of his nose.

One of the group members behind him was startled by the sudden loud noise and instinctively shrank back.

After a brief silence, Chanis took a deep breath, seemingly trying to process this blunt rejection.

Then, the knocking resumed, more urgent than before, accompanied by a deliberately gentler, even slightly ingratiating voice: "Miss Alexie Roffer, please calm down. I think there must be some misunderstanding—could you please open the door and give me a chance to explain?"

Alexie rolled her eyes dramatically, and was about to shout "No way!" at the door when Kaguya put down her chopsticks.

She took a deep breath and, in her cold voice, barked rudely at the door, "The Astrea Familia doesn't welcome scum and degenerates! Get out of here with your hypocritical face! Don't defile our place!"

This rebuke was swift and ruthless, every word piercing to the heart, completely devoid of the tactful etiquette she usually maintained as a Far Eastern noblewoman.

Alisha looked at Kaguya in surprise, a hint of astonishment in her eyes.

Kaguya winked at her quickly, a smile playing on her lips, before reverting to her usual composed demeanor, as if the rude order to leave hadn't come from her at all.

Outside the door, the barely maintained gentle smile on Chanis's face immediately froze after he was directly called a "scumbag".

Veins bulged on his forehead, his clenched fists trembled violently from the effort of restraint, and a fire of immense humiliation and rage surged to the top of his head.

He could barely control himself and wanted to kick open that damned door that symbolized "justice"!

I've already humbled myself so much—

-

But the lingering fear of absolute power held him back like a cold chain.

He cursed viciously in his heart, his facial muscles contorted, and finally squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth, growling at the silent group members behind him, "Let's go!"

He turned around with a livid face, his steps quick and heavy, as if he would suffocate if he stayed for even a second longer.

However, just as the two of them reached a crossroads not far from the Star Court, Chanis was preoccupied with how to deal with a possible investigation, his heart filled with humiliation and resentment—

"Bang!"

Caught off guard, he crashed solidly into a "wall" as hard as iron, yet still warm to the touch.

The enormous reaction force caused him to stumble a few steps, lose his balance, and fall to the ground with a thud. A sharp pain shot through his tailbone, and his glasses were askew.

"Hiss—which blind bastard is this! Don't they have eyes when they walk?! Don't they know they're from the Soma Familia—"

The pent-up anger, frustration, and physical pain found the perfect outlet at this moment. Chanis clutched the sore spot from the fall and cursed wildly without a care in the world.

He looked up angrily, adjusted his glasses, and stared at the guy blocking his way, ready to teach him a lesson and salvage the face he had lost that day.

However, when he saw that face against the morning light, angular yet still cold and stern despite its weathered appearance, and when he felt the lingering, palpable aura of menace and bloodlust emanating from the other person, all his curses seemed to be choked back by an invisible hand, stuck in his throat.

The color drained from his face instantly, and boundless fear engulfed him, making it extremely difficult for him to breathe. His body began to tremble violently uncontrollably.

"Soma—a clan?"

Gu Yuan narrowed his eyes slightly, repeated the name, and his deep voice made the surrounding cool air seem to drop to freezing point.

He had just finished a day-and-night battle with the floor master "Barro" and returned to the surface world exhausted and still full of fighting spirit. Suddenly, he heard this name that caught his attention and couldn't help but take a closer look at the disheveled man in front of him.

Before I even went to them, they came to my doorstep?

Standing beside Gu Yuan, Liu looked at Chanis, who was slumped on the ground, pale and trembling like a leaf, and a knowing look flashed in his clear eyes.

She silently mourned for the regimental commander, who had unfortunately run into the line of fire, for a brief two seconds.

The next second, a shrill scream, filled with extreme terror, ripped through the relatively peaceful and tranquil air of Orario in the early morning!

"ah--!"

The sound waves soared high and spread far and wide, startling several flocks of birds that were perched on the distant clock tower. They flapped their wings and fled in panic toward the horizon!

Inside the Star Garden, Alisha, who was putting the last piece of fried egg into her mouth, heard this crystal-clear scream and froze, her fork stopping at her lips.

She and Kaguya across from her exchanged a glance, both seeing the same astonishment and confusion in each other's eyes.

The terror in that scream was so vivid and unusual.

The two listened intently, then turned their gazes toward the direction from which the sound came—the very direction from which Chanis had just left.

"What happened?!"

Alexandra murmured, putting down her fork, a ripple of surprise mixed with a premonition quietly creeping into her heart.
