Douluo Continent: Starting by controlling the Holy Maiden of the Holy Spirit Cult
Chapter 75 is dedicated to all restless readers.
Chapter 75 is dedicated to all restless readers.
This book has been published for more than half a year. Although it has not received high praise so far, it has a number of loyal fans who have followed it to the latest chapters. Fans such as Void Domain, Destiny Lord, Imperial Sword Sky, and Sobchak have been supporting the book and actively participating in discussions. The author would like to express his heartfelt gratitude to them.
The author's initial motivation for creating this book was simply that he was a fan of anime and manga. He heard the news of Psy's passing at noon on March 8th. Childhood memories and youthful enthusiasm seemed to vanish with it. He waited in a daze until the next day, when the Douluo Continent II anime started airing around 10 a.m.
When the author was young, he mobilized the entire dormitory to buy a physical copy of the book Douluo Dalu II and take turns reading it. In those years, Douluo Dalu, Tang San and Xiao Wu were basically unavoidable topics of conversation before we went to bed at night. Therefore, before the new book was released, we read each volume at least several times.
From the moment Huo Gua first participated in the Star Luo competition, we, who were deeply immersed in the protagonist's story, began to reflect on whether we could have done better if we were the protagonists. More importantly, should we not have done it this way?
The protagonist, Huo Gua, arrives filled with hatred, and in the atmosphere of Shrek Academy, he does indeed receive unprecedented warmth and care, all of which is based on his abilities. However, we, as children, vaguely see the shadow of the former Spirit Hall in Shrek Academy.
Wasn't the protagonist supposed to enter the academy to seek revenge and grow up there? Why does he have to shoulder the glory of Shrek Academy and risk his life in a single match? He doesn't cherish the life his mother gave him. If Huo Yun'er knew this from beyond the grave, what would she think?
What exactly is justice in Douluo Continent II? Why are so many readers angry when the main characters are injured in the competition, but unmoved when they kill the students of Sun Moon Academy one after another?
Until the story progressed to the Qiankun Wenqing Valley chapter, in order to cater to the original author's perverse tastes, we in the dorm were all numb from watching it.
Personally, I think the story of this book actually ended at that point. The tragic fate of Qiankun Wenqing Valley left behind the original male and female protagonists. The proud Huo Gua had his spine ruthlessly shattered by Tang San, and Wang Dong'er, who was half a personality of the female protagonist, also died here in a suicide pact.
Having seen this far, it's not hard to accept the explosive plot developments that follow. And then, in the story of the legend of the gods, Huo Gua indeed becomes a crucial factor in Tang San's defeat of Destruction.
It was also on March 9th that I first had the idea of creating fan fiction. If I were to create a protagonist who takes Huo Yuhao's place and completes the story of Douluo Continent II, setting aside all the external power-ups, how would he avenge his mother? How would he defeat Tang San?
After all, bringing in all sorts of random stuff might make the book enjoyable, but it would ultimately lose its essence.
First, the "God's-eye view" is established, meaning the protagonist is Subaru Natsuki who knows everything. However, even knowing the development of events and the location of resource packs doesn't guarantee a smooth and undead-free journey. Therefore, I included the plot of a demon king suddenly appearing in the far north. Some readers might find this cheesy, but things in this world rarely go as planned.
Most importantly, the protagonist needs to draw power from plant-type spirits. After watching Douluo Continent IV, I deeply understood this point. Without drawing energy from other planes, it would be impossible to contend with Tang Shenwang before becoming a god. Just looking at the enormous energy Lan Xuanyu needed to achieve the seventh ring fully illustrates this point.
The author drew inspiration from a friend's experience to create this protagonist who is driven mad by love and seeks revenge. In modern society, only those who know how to scheme and plot can be the protagonist of Douluo Continent II; otherwise, even if they are given foresight and resources, they may not necessarily win in the end.
The protagonist is not the chosen one of destiny. It was Huo Gua and Tianmeng Ice Silkworm at the beginning who were. Only Huo Gua, who fused with Tianmeng, was the true chosen one of destiny. Without the blessing of destiny, how could Tianmeng have become a million-year-old soul beast? Without the blessing of destiny, how could Huo Gua have met Tianmeng? Both are indispensable.
Some say Tang San noticed Huo Yuhao from the moment he was born, noting that the original text describes him as shrouded in mystery, which can be interpreted as a form of destiny. For example, when Bei Bei and Tang Ya first met Huo Yuhao, they didn't recruit him, demonstrating that Tang San's divine sense within the Tang Sect didn't value the seemingly useless Huo Yuhao. However, once Huo Yuhao merged with Tianmeng, Tang San recognized his talent and immediately recruited him.
Bibi Dong is a reluctant, homegrown cheat code given to the protagonist, intended to make his early development less difficult. Without Bibi Dong, the protagonist wouldn't even have stepped into Shrek Academy, let alone recruit companions. Without Bibi Dong, the protagonist would have to fight his way through the wilderness alone, missing the chance to show off in front of his peers from the original Shrek timeline, making the early part of the book much less interesting.
Furthermore, the introduction of two groups of time travelers in the early stages was actually an arrangement that the author had thought about for a long time.
The introduction of the chaotic dogs and those beasts from Chang'an is naturally to give the protagonist a chance for revenge, since his soul has already transmigrated here, and those beasts' souls might also have transmigrated to some other world or reincarnated to commit evil again. The reason they are not completely eliminated until the mid-to-late game is that only when the protagonist's mental strength reaches a certain level and his necromancy is perfected will he have the means to make them pay for their crimes life after life. Killing them might feel good in the moment, but the continuous torment is even more satisfying.
Then there's Cao Jinxuan, the transmigrator. The author actually intended to use him to satirize other transmigration fanfiction. Douluo Continent is a fantasy world where, regardless of martial arts level, the law of the jungle prevails. Someone with a godlike perspective who intends to serve the Tang family, whether he respects them or not, will inevitably pay the price for his submission. Another issue is character. Even protagonists need time to develop their character in the early stages, let alone modern people who enter the Body Sect from the start—just look at Aruheng in Douluo Continent III.
Regarding Cao Jinxuan, what everyone cares about most is actually the scene where he forcibly kisses Zhu Lu, which is considered the biggest flaw in the book. From Cao Jinxuan's perspective, he proclaims himself the chosen one, so such behavior is not surprising.
You see, many transmigrators, upon arriving in the world, either forcefully kiss the Empress or the Fairy, and then fall in love with him. In addition, their team regards Dai Huabin's team as their biggest rival, so it's not surprising that he does such things.
The author doesn't care how many people like Zhu Lu because of other fanfiction. First of all, in the original work, she is incredibly noisy and malicious when she clashes with the main characters. Compared to her, Cui Yajie is much more marginalized and quiet. In addition, Zhu Lu is Dai Huabin's future wife, making her a perfect experimental subject for Cao Jinxuan.
Another point is to let all readers know that the protagonist isn't a stamp collector who takes every girl he meets as a concubine. What kind of partners these girls meet, what kind of troubles they encounter—it's none of his business. The protagonist has no need to fuss over things outside his plans. With hundreds of millions of people in the Douluo Continent and tens of millions of beautiful girls, the protagonist simply couldn't possibly collect them all.
Having discussed those points, let's talk about the protagonist's arrival at Shrek Academy. He has Bibi Dong protecting him, so even if Mu En tries to cause him trouble, he has the ability to escape. Then there's the question of why the author gave Xie Huan Yue so much attention. I've read other fanfiction, and just like the original author, almost all of them portray Xie Huan Yue, this chubby little guy, as a villain or a stepping stone for his peers. Did you only see that he deserved to be beaten, and not his potential?
In the original timeline, the three Soul Masters among the new students of the Outer Academy, besides Dai Huabin and Ning Tian, were also Xie Huanyue, the fat guy, who was also the first to almost seriously injure the three main characters. The author created a secondary creation for him, turning his chubby elephant into rubber, giving him the treatment he deserved for his potential.
Even in a fantasy world, there aren't that many fools who would repeatedly make enemies of this person or that person. Rather than turning someone with exceptional talent and potential into an opponent, it's better to turn them into a ally or one of your own.
Just like when I wrote about the protagonist being trapped in the Holy Spirit Cult for three years, you see so many powerful forces targeting Huo Yuhao and wanting to kill him, but most people with a little bit of sense would think about befriending Huo Yuhao, winning him over, recruiting him, or even—becoming Huo Yuhao.
If readers can calm down and take their time to read this book carefully, they might have a different experience. Readers who are simply looking for exciting moments might find the early plot unsatisfying, but those who truly understand the author's message will find that the plot is actually enjoyable throughout.
This chapter was written on a personal note. I hope that readers who have read this passage will calm down a bit and give themselves a chance to settle down and read the book.
