Chapter 172 The Secret of the Experimental Base!
Chapter 172 The Secret of the Experimental Base!
After becoming a soldier, Steve had time to think and would do some reading in his spare time.
But this was the first time Steve had read a book of this kind.
Therefore, many words in each book were completely unfamiliar to Steve.
For this reason, Lynn specially arranged for Friday to provide Steve with an extra translator.
This translator can provide the most complete explanation for Steve when he encounters a word he doesn't understand.
Additionally, a series of related historical events can be introduced based on this word to help Steve understand the corresponding word.
After so many days of reading, Steve's understanding of this society has become more profound.
The more he reads, the more he understands, and the deeper his understanding of contemporary society becomes.
Especially with the existence of an artificial intelligence like Friday.
Steve would immediately connect the things he encountered in society to the knowledge in books on Friday, providing on-the-spot instruction.
The more Steve understood this society, the more he felt its darkness.
Looking back on his initial purpose for joining the army, he finally understood that the future depicted in these books was the society he wanted to see.
Steve looked up at Stark.
"On Friday, explain to him what I'm reading right now."
As he listened to Friday's explanation, Stark's gaze toward Steve grew increasingly strange.
Unlike the captain, Stark is someone who has received a complete college education.
Although their universities don't teach much ideological education, Stark himself will study some of the corresponding philosophy courses.
Steve's understanding of the book he was reading was not in-depth, but he still knew the most basic concepts.
Looking at Steve, Stark felt as if a faint red glow was emanating from his body.
Why did you suddenly decide to watch these things?
Stark was somewhat curious.
He didn't seem to have much of an opinion about the captain reading these books.
"Lynn told me that America needed a change, that society needed a change, and recommended that I read these books and then tell him my thoughts."
Upon hearing this, Stark, who was about to leave, immediately turned back.
"You mean, Lynn told you the Earth needs a change, and the subject of that change is—" "These?"
Stark pointed to the book in Steve's hand.
Steve nodded emphatically.
"Lynn didn't say it explicitly, but I think he probably wants to change in that direction."
"Are you scared to see me reading these books, you big capitalist?"
"How could I be afraid? I'm not some big capitalist."
Stark's lips twitched.
"I am a businessman with a conscience. Stark Industries' employee benefits are among the best in the world."
If the captain merely wanted to understand these ideas, even if he wanted to make some changes to the world, Stark wouldn't have any objections whatsoever.
How can society change so easily?
With so many conflicting interests gathered together, it's too complicated; it's simply not something one person could accomplish.
But if that person were Lynn, then Stark would have to seriously consider his future place on Earth.
Without a doubt, Lynn truly has the ability to spark a revolution affecting all of humanity.
Stark stroked his chin, determined to have a good talk with Lynn. Although he wasn't the world's biggest capitalist, he was definitely among the top.
If real change is to occur, the first group to be affected will definitely be this group.
While he was thinking, Lynn's portal opened, and he appeared in the office.
"What day is it today? Why are you two both here?"
"I heard you're planning to start a revolution around the world?"
Stark stared intently at Lynn.
Lynn glanced at Stark and couldn't help but laugh.
"Why would you think that? Who told you that?"
Stark nodded, and Lynn then noticed the captain, who had his head buried behind his book with a smile on his lips.
"It's not going to be a revolution, but I would be very satisfied if it could push human society forward by even a small step."
Lynn waved his hand.
"You don't actually think that by showing the captain these things, I'm trying to push the entire human world towards a utopian society, do you?"
"I don't have that ability, and neither do you. I can't do it, you can't do it, the captain can't do it, and Friday is even less capable."
Lynn spread his hands.
"We both know we're not the kind of people who can navigate the political arena, so we're able to use our power to push society forward, even if it's just a small step—."
"That's enough."
Stark breathed a sigh of relief.
"I really thought you were going to start a revolution. Wouldn't I be the first unlucky one to suffer?"
Lynn gave Stark a strange look.
"Strictly speaking, it is indeed necessary to take action against the United States."
"However, the specifics of how to proceed depend on the captain's ideas."
"I?"
The captain was taken aback for a moment.
Lynn nodded heavily.
"If it wasn't you, who else could it be but me?"
"S———."
Steve gasped.
He originally thought that Lynn had asked him to read these books just to persuade him, but he never expected that Lynn had asked him to read these books so that he could lead this revolution.
the other side.
The night was as dark as ink, and the lights of Manhattan flickered outside the FBI headquarters, like countless eyes watching over the area. Lynn had just returned from a mission out of town when he received an urgent recall order. His heart was filled with doubt and unease; had some major case broken out again?
Entering the headquarters building, Lynn quickly walked through the bustling office area and headed straight for her boss's office. The door opened, revealing her boss sitting solemnly at his desk, a document in his hand.
"Lynn, you're back." The boss's voice was deep and powerful.
"Yes, sir. I came straight here after getting off the plane," Lynn replied, looking directly at his superior, trying to read something from his eyes.
His superior handed him the documents: "This mission is special; we need you to interrogate a mutant."
Lynn took the document and quickly glanced through it. Mutants? That's not common. He looked up: "Mutants? What's going on?"
"This mutant's name is Hans. He escaped from a secret experimental base a few days ago. We need to get the exact location and details of that base from him," the superior explained.
Lynn frowned: "Mutants—interrogating them might not be easy."
"I know your abilities, Lynn. You're the best interrogator we have here, and I'm confident you can handle him." His superior patted him on the shoulder, his tone full of trust.
Lynn nodded without saying anything more. He knew the importance of this mission and understood the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders.
The interrogation room was located deep underground in the FBI headquarters. It was dark, damp, and filled with a suffocating atmosphere. Lynn stood outside the interrogation room door, took a deep breath, and composed himself. Then, he pushed open the door and went inside.
Inside the interrogation room, Hans was tightly strapped to the interrogation chair, his eyes closed, as if he were asleep. But Lynn knew this was just an act. Mutants possess perception far exceeding that of ordinary humans; they can often sense danger instantly.
"Hans, wake up," Lynn said softly, his voice echoing clearly in the interrogation room.
Hans slowly opened his eyes, his pupils contracting instantly, clearly surprised by Lynn's appearance. He struggled to break free of his restraints, but found it all in vain.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Hans's voice was hoarse and deep, with a hint of wariness.
"I'm FBI agent Lynn Harvey." Lynn walked up to Hans, staring intently at him. "I want to talk to you."
"What are you talking about? I don't know anything." Hans turned his head away, trying to avoid Lynn's gaze.
Lynn chuckled lightly: "Hans, stop pretending. We know you escaped from that experimental base. Now, I want to know the exact location and situation of that base."
A flicker of panic crossed Hans's eyes, but he quickly regained his composure: "I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't do anything."
Lynn wasn't in a hurry. He slowly walked to Hans's side, lowered his head, and said softly, "Hans, don't think I'm bluffing. We already have enough evidence to prove that you're connected to that experimental base. Right now, you're just wasting each other's time."
Hans paused for a moment, then said, "Even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you. You FBI agents are all hypocrites, only good at manipulating others."
Lynn shook his head: "Hans, you're wrong. We're not using you, we want to help you. You know what that experimental base did to you. Don't you want revenge?"
Hans's body trembled slightly; he was clearly affected by Lynn's words. But he quickly regained his composure: "Revenge? With you guys? Don't be ridiculous."
"Why not give it a try?" Lynn continued. "At least you can tell us what you know and let us investigate. Maybe we can find that base and expose their crimes. That way, you can be free too."
Hans lowered his head, lost in thought. A brief silence fell over the interrogation room, broken only by the echoing breaths of the two men. After a long while, Hans finally raised his head and looked at Lynn: "Fine, I'll tell you. But you must guarantee my safety."
Lynn nodded. "Of course. We will do everything we can to protect you."
Hans took a deep breath and began to recount his experiences. He was originally an ordinary person, but due to an accident, he was captured by that experimental base. There, he underwent countless experiments and tortures, eventually becoming what he is now—a mutant with special abilities.
"They locked me in a dark, sunless place and injected me with all sorts of drugs every day. I was in so much pain that I wanted to commit suicide several times. But luckily, I eventually escaped." Hans's voice trembled, clearly indicating that the experience was still vivid in his mind.
As Lynn listened to Hans's account, he was filled with anger and sympathy. He secretly vowed to find that experimental base and bring those criminals to justice.
"Where is that base?" Lynn asked.
Hans hesitated for a moment, then slowly said, "In—an abandoned factory outside New York. It's very well hidden."
You'll have a hard time finding it.
Lynn noted this information down, then continued, "Anything else? What else is in that base?"
Hans closed his eyes, seemingly unwilling to recall those horrific images. But encouraged by Lynn, he continued, "There were many mutants like me there, all locked up in different rooms. There were also scientists and doctors who conducted all sorts of experiments every day—"
Hans's account horrified Lynn. He couldn't imagine how those innocent people had endured each day in that horrific experimental facility.
As night fell, the neon lights of Manhattan flickered in the rain, shrouding the bustling metropolis in a veil of mystery. Inside FBI headquarters, Lynn Harvey stood in the center of the conference room, his gaze firm and resolute, as if piercing through the darkness to meet the unknown dangers.
"Gentlemen, we've just received a crucial lead from Hans regarding that experimental base." Lynn's voice was steady and powerful.
The silence of the conference room echoed. "This is a secret experimental facility hidden in an abandoned factory on the outskirts of New York. They're not only conducting illegal mutant experiments, but also imprisoning many innocent people. Our mission is to find this place and rescue the victims."
And the criminals will be brought to justice.
Lynn's men stood solemnly, knowing the difficulty and importance of this mission. No one raised any objections, for everyone had faith in Lynn's leadership and the strength of his team.
"The action plan is as follows—" Lynn began to explain the tasks in detail, his words clear and organized, and everyone listened attentively.
I was afraid of missing any detail.
However, just as Lynn finished explaining the operation plan and was about to assign tasks, the conference room door was suddenly pushed open violently. A group of unidentified individuals dressed in black uniforms and wearing masks stormed in, armed with submachine guns and looking menacing.
"Don't move! Hand over Hans!" roared the leader of the men in black. His voice was hoarse and cold, as if it came from the depths of hell.
Lynn reacted quickly, signaling his men to remain calm while stepping in front of Hans: "Who are you? What do you want?"
"Enough talk! Hand over Hans to us, or don't blame us for being impolite!" The man in black threatened Lynn, pointing a gun at him.
Lynn's gaze was piercing as he stared intently into the eyes of the man in black: "What do you think this place is? FBI headquarters! How dare you cause trouble here!"
The man in black sneered, "So what if it's the FBI? We're not afraid! Today, we must take Hans away!"
With that, the man in black waved his hand, and his companions immediately dispersed, closing in on Lynn and his men. The atmosphere instantly became tense and suffocating, as if a string could snap at any moment.
Lynn knew that if these men took Hans away, all their previous efforts would be in vain. He had to protect Hans while also ensuring the safety of his men.
"Don't be impulsive!" Lynn whispered to his men. "Stay calm and look for an opportunity to fight back."
Seeing that Lynn refused to comply, the men in black became increasingly agitated. They began firing indiscriminately, attempting to force Lynn into submission through violence.
Bullets flew through the conference room, narrowly avoiding Lynn and his men's vital organs.
"Lynn, what should we do?" one of his subordinates asked anxiously.
"Don't panic!" Lynn said in a deep voice, "We still have a chance. Everyone, listen to my command, let's charge out together!"
As he spoke, taking advantage of the moment the men in black were distracted, Lynn shoved Hans sharply, pushing him towards the nearby safety exit. At the same time, he swiftly drew his pistol and opened fire on the men in black. His men followed suit, dodging bullets and returning fire.
The conference room instantly transformed into a battlefield, filled with the deafening sounds of gunfire and shouts. Lynn and his men fought their way back, using the tables and chairs in the conference room as cover to skillfully outmaneuver the men in black.
However, the men in black were firing at them with overwhelming firepower, and Lynn and his men gradually found themselves overwhelmed. They were forced into a corner of the conference room, their situation extremely precarious.
"Lynn, this can't go on!" one of his men shouted.
"I know!" Lynn roared, "Hang in there, everyone! Reinforcements will be here soon!"
Just as Lynn and his men were on the verge of death, the conference room door opened again. This time, it was FBI reinforcements arriving.
They quickly joined the battle, fighting alongside Lynn and his men against the men in black.
Seeing the situation was turning against them, the men in black began to retreat. They fired cover fire as they retreated towards the door. Lynn and his men seized the opportunity to counterattack, giving chase and vowing to bring these criminals to justice.
After a fierce battle, the men in black were finally driven back. They abandoned several corpses and a pile of weapons, and fled the FBI headquarters in panic. Lynn and his men suffered minor injuries, but they managed to save Hans and their lives.
"Is everyone alright?" Lynn asked with concern.
"It's alright!" the subordinates replied one after another.
Lynn breathed a sigh of relief: "Great. We need to get out of here quickly to prevent them from attacking again."
With that, Lynn led his men and Hans quickly out of the conference room. They crossed the corridor and arrived at a safe place. Lynn immediately contacted his superiors, reported what had just happened, and requested reinforcements to protect Hans.
"Lynn, you've done a great job," the superior praised over the phone. "We'll send more people immediately to ensure Hans' safety."
At the same time, we will launch an investigation to find out the identities and origins of those men in black.
"Thank you, sir," Lynn said. "We will continue to investigate the clues about that experimental base and launch an operation as soon as possible."
After hanging up the phone, Lynn looked at his subordinates' tired but determined faces and felt a surge of emotion and pride.
