Chapter 194 Evidence Photos Obtained
Pushing open the door, a familiar aroma of food wafted out—dinner left by her mother, simple yet full of love. Lynn slipped on her slippers and slowly walked into the living room. Her father, George, was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper, while her sister, Gwen, was engrossed in her studies at the desk, preparing for her upcoming exams. Hearing the noise, both of them looked up, their eyes filled with concern as they looked at Lynn.
"Lynn, you're back." George put down his newspaper, a hint of worry in his voice. "How was work today?"
Lynn gave a bitter smile, not answering directly, but slowly walked to the sofa and sat down, his head lowered, his hands clenched into fists, as if trying to suppress his inner emotions. Seeing this, Gwen immediately put down her pen, walked over and sat down next to Lynn, gently patting his shoulder.
"Brother, what's wrong? Did something unpleasant happen at work?" Gwen's voice was gentle and delicate, like a warm current, trying to dispel the gloom in Lynn's heart.
Lynn took a deep breath, looked up at her father and sister, her eyes flashing with complex emotions. "I—"—"I've been suspended."
As soon as he finished speaking, the entire room seemed to fall silent, broken only by the occasional sound of wind coming from outside the window. George and Gwen were both stunned, clearly not expecting this news.
"What?!" George jumped to his feet, his eyes filled with shock and confusion. "Why is this happening? You've always been doing so well!"
Lynn shook his head, a bitter smile tinged with helplessness: "It was Hulk—he turned the tables, exposing Hans and me's actions and taking us to court. Under pressure, Sheriff Duke had no choice but to temporarily suspend us from our posts."
Upon hearing this, Gwen's eyes flashed with anger: "That Hulk is absolutely outrageous! How could he do this!"
George slowly sat down, his brow furrowed, seemingly struggling to process the information. After a moment, he spoke, his voice steady and firm: "Lynn, I know this is a huge blow to you. But remember, justice may be delayed, but it will never be denied. You have always been a responsible and righteous good cop, and your mother, Gwen, and I have no doubt about that."
Hearing this, Lynn felt a surge of warmth in his heart. He looked at his father, his eyes shining with gratitude: "Dad, thank you. I know this is a difficult situation, but I won't give up. I will find evidence to prove my innocence and make that bastard Hulk pay the price he deserves."
Gwen gripped Lynn's hand tightly, her eyes shining with unwavering determination: "Brother, I believe in you! You've always been my role model. No matter what happens, I'll stand by you and support you!"
Feeling the warmth and support of his family, Lynn felt some of the gloom in his heart dissipate. He knew he wasn't fighting alone; he had his family, and those who believed in and supported him. This strength would be his motivation to keep going.
However, things didn't go as smoothly as expected. Hulk seemed to have anticipated Lynn's actions, and all the clues were cleverly covered up or destroyed. Lynn found himself in an unprecedented predicament, beginning to doubt whether he could truly find evidence to prove his innocence.
That evening, Lynn returned home, her face etched with exhaustion and defeat. George and Gwen saw this and felt deeply for her.
They knew that Lynn needed more than just comfort; she needed encouragement and support.
"Lynn, don't be discouraged." George patted Lynn on the shoulder. "We know this road is difficult, but you have to believe that as long as you persevere, there will always be a way out."
Gwen came over and hugged Lynn tightly: "Brother, I've always believed in you. You're the best, you'll definitely overcome this!"
Lynn felt the warmth of his family, and a strange strength welled up within him. He knew he couldn't give up like this. For his family, and for the justice he held dear, he had to keep going.
The city's hustle and bustle gradually faded into the distance as Hans's car slowly entered a quiet road. Tall trees cast dappled shadows on either side, and the air was filled with the faint scent of earth, as if foreshadowing a secret about to be revealed.
Hans stopped the car and turned to look at Lynn in the passenger seat: "Duke is here again. This time he went to the villa in the suburbs."
Lynn frowned slightly, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes: "He's here again? This time we have to follow him and see what he's up to."
The two got out of the car and cautiously followed Duke. Duke's figure appeared and disappeared among the shadows of the trees; he walked hurriedly, seemingly eager to complete some task. Lynn and Hans dared not get too close, for fear of alerting him.
"What do you think he came for this time?" Hans asked in a low voice.
"I don't know, but it's definitely related to the previous case," Lynn replied. "We need to be careful not to get caught by him."
The two followed Duke through a grove of trees to a luxurious villa. The villa was surrounded by a high wall covered in vines, giving it a mysterious and secluded feel. Duke looked around to make sure no one was following him before cautiously ringing the doorbell.
A moment later, a middle-aged man in a suit emerged from the villa. He glanced around warily, then shook hands and exchanged pleasantries with Duke. Lynn and Hans, hiding in the bushes some distance away, observed the two men's every move through binoculars.
"Is that person a municipal official?" Hans asked.
"That's right, it's him," Lynn replied. "It seems Duke is here to make a deal with him."
The two men exchanged a smile, secretly relieved that their surveillance hadn't been in vain. They quietly approached the villa, attempting to photograph Duke's transaction with the city officials. However, just as they were about to get close, an unexpected incident occurred.
A stray dog suddenly darted out, barking incessantly at them. Lynn and Hans were startled, fearing they would be discovered by the people inside the villa. They hurriedly hid back in the bushes, their hearts pounding, nervously observing the villa's movements.
Fortunately, the people inside the villa didn't seem to notice anything amiss outside. After barking for a while, the stray dog gradually quieted down. Lynn and Hans breathed a sigh of relief and cautiously approached the villa again.
This time, they were much more cautious. They crawled on the ground, careful not to alert the enemy again. Finally, they reached a suitable position where they could clearly see Duke and the city officials' every move.
The two men pulled out their cameras and quickly snapped photos. One after another, the pictures documented the cash transaction between Duke and city officials. A smug smile spread across their faces, as if they could already see the light at the end of the tunnel.
However, just as they were preparing to leave, another unexpected event occurred. Duke suddenly turned back to look in their direction, a hint of wariness flashing in his eyes. Lynn and Hans were startled, realizing the gravity of the situation. They knew that if they were discovered, the consequences would be dire.
Duke didn't seem to have pinpointed their exact location, but he had sensed they were being followed. He quickly ended the transaction and turned to chase after Lynn and Hans.
Seeing this, Lynn and Hans hurriedly retreated. They weaved through the woods, trying to shake off Duke's pursuit. However, Duke seemed to know their every move and followed them closely.
A thrilling chase unfolded in the woods. Lynn and Hans ran with all their might, terrified of being caught by Duke. Their heartbeats echoed through the trees, as if providing accompaniment to the chase.
Finally, after a fierce chase, Lynn and Hans managed to shake off Duke. They hid in a secluded corner, panting heavily, secretly relieved to have escaped danger.
"That was close, he almost found us," Hans exclaimed.
"Yes, this was a near-death experience," Lynn sighed. "But at least we got photos of their transaction, so that's something in itself."
The two men exchanged a smile, filled with a sense of accomplishment. They knew that although the surveillance had been extremely dangerous, it had brought them one step closer to the truth. They decided to hand the photos over to the police, providing strong evidence to expose the crimes of Duke and city officials.
On the way back to the city, Lynn and Hans were in a particularly relaxed mood. They gazed at the scenery outside the car window, their hearts filled with anticipation for the future.
As night deepened, Lynn stood before Officer Duke's office, taking a deep breath. He clutched a stack of photographs in his hand—evidence he and Hans had risked their lives to obtain regarding Hulk's bribery. This time, they had finally caught this corrupt official red-handed.
Lynn knocked on the door and heard Duke's voice from inside: "Come in."
He pushed open the door and went inside. Duke was sitting at his desk, his brow furrowed, seemingly dealing with some thorny issue. Seeing Lynn enter, he looked up, a questioning glint in his eyes.
"Sir, I have something important to report," Lynn said, handing the photo to Duke.
Duke took the photos with a puzzled look and began to look at them one by one. As he turned the pages, his expression gradually became serious.
These photos clearly document the cash transaction between Hulk and a mysterious figure, providing irrefutable evidence.
"Where did these photos come from?" Duke asked in a deep voice.
"It was Hans and I who took these photos," Lynn replied. "We've been following Hulk for a while and finally got this evidence."
Duke looked up and gave Lynn a deep look: "You've done a great job. This evidence is very important to us."
Just then, the office door was suddenly flung open, and Hulk stormed in. He immediately saw the photo in Duke's hand, and his face turned deathly pale.
"Commander Duke, what do you mean by this?" Hulk asked, trying to appear calm.
Duke looked at him coldly: "These photos are yours, aren't they? Hulk, what else do you have to say for yourself?"
Hulk's eyes widened. He turned to look at Lynn, a glint of venom in his eyes: "It was you! You dared to take pictures of me without my permission!"
Lynn met his gaze without flinching: "We just did what we were supposed to do. The fact that you accepted bribes has been exposed; what else is there to say?"
Hulk, enraged, charged at Lynn, trying to snatch the photo from his hand. But Duke stood up just in time, blocking his way.
"Enough! Hulk, do you think you can escape the law?" Duke snapped. "These photos are enough to convict you!"
Hulk slumped to the ground, his face ashen. He knew he was truly finished this time. Lynn and Hans stood by, quietly awaiting their next move.
Duke picked up the phone and dialed a number: "Hello, is this the police station? I have a bribery case here that needs your attention."
A short while later, the police arrived at the scene. They took Hulk away and thanked Lynn and Hans. Duke watched them leave and sighed deeply.
"You did a great job this time," Duke said, turning to Lynn and Hans. "I'll put in a good word for you."
Lynn and Hans exchanged a smile; they knew their adventure had finally paid off. They had not only exposed Hulk's crimes but also regained their superior's trust.
However, the matter did not end there. Hulk's bribery case caused a huge uproar in the police department, implicating more high-ranking officials. The entire city was thrown into turmoil. Lynn and Hans were drawn into an even deeper vortex because of this incident.
"You two are celebrities now," Duke said with a smile, looking at the two men before him. "However, this also means you'll face more dangers and challenges."
Lynn and Hans nodded without flinching: "We're not afraid. We're willing to do anything for justice."
Duke gave them a deep look, then said solemnly, "Alright, then I will entrust you with more tasks. I hope you can continue to bring light and hope to this city."
The two smiled at each other, then held each other's hands tightly.
The last rays of the setting sun filtered through the gaps in the curtains, dappling the living room of Lynn's house and bathing the cozy home in a golden glow. Lynn pushed open the door, stepping into the house weary from the day, only to find her father, George, sitting upright with a mysterious smile on his face, as if something good was about to happen.
"Lynn, you're back." George's voice was filled with barely concealed excitement. "I have some good news for you today."
Lynn was slightly taken aback and looked at his father curiously: "What good news? Is Mom coming back?" His mother was away from home for work all year round, and the family rarely got together, so this was the first thing Lynn thought of.
George smiled and shook his head, a strange light gleaming in his eyes: "No, it's about your life's most important event."
"A lifelong commitment?" Lynn was momentarily stunned, staring wide-eyed at her father.
"Yes, I found you a girlfriend." George's words were full of pride, as if he had accomplished a major task.
"What?!" Lynn exclaimed in surprise, completely unprepared for his father to bring up this topic. He instinctively wanted to refuse, but looking at his father's expectant eyes, he couldn't bear to.
Just then, her younger sister Gwen peeked out of the room, her face full of gossip, and asked, "Brother, is it true? Dad really wants to introduce you to a girlfriend? Tell me, what kind of girl is she?"
Lynn looked at Gwen helplessly; this younger sister always managed to cause trouble at crucial moments. "What are you doing getting involved in this mess? Go do your homework," he said, trying to mask his embarrassment with an authoritative tone.
However, Gwen wasn't having any of it; instead, she became even more excited: "Oh, brother, don't be shy. You're so old and still single. Her dad's just doing this for your own good. Tell me, what kind of girl is she?"
George chimed in, "Yeah, Lynn, you're not getting any younger. It's time to think about your personal life. This girl is Lily, the daughter of an old friend of mine. She's beautiful and has a great personality. I think she'd be perfect for you."
Lynn was somewhat swayed by the father and daughter's back-and-forth, but he still had some reservations: "Dad, I'm focused entirely on my work right now, I don't have time for dating."
"Work is important, but life shouldn't be neglected," George said earnestly. "Besides, you haven't even met him yet."
How do you know it's not a good match? At the very least, you have to give them a chance, and give yourself a chance too.
Gwen chimed in, "Yeah, yeah, bro, you should go meet her! What if you two are really a good match? Don't blame me if you don't get a chance, because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"
After being persuaded by both father and daughter, Lynn finally relented: "Okay, I'll meet her. But let's make it clear first, it's just a meeting, a chat, nothing more."
George and Gwen exchanged a smile, as if they could already see Lynn and Lily holding hands happily. "Okay, okay, just a meeting to chat," George quickly replied. "I'll call her right now and arrange a time for you two to meet."
The setting sun poured down like molten gold, outlining the city's silhouette with a gentle and romantic light. Lynn stood at the café entrance, clutching a carefully chosen bouquet of flowers, his heart filled with both trepidation and anticipation. Today was his first official date with Lily, an occasion he had initially thought was merely a formality due to family pressure, but unexpectedly, it filled him with an unprecedented sense of nervousness and excitement.
Lily walked over with light steps, her light blue dress swaying gently in the breeze, like the freshest scenery in summer. When she saw the flowers in Lynn's hand, a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, which then blossomed into a bright smile: "Lynn, you're so kind, you even prepared flowers for me."
Lynn scratched her head a little embarrassedly and handed her the flowers: "Well, I think a first date should have some kind of ceremony."
Lily took the flowers, smelled them, and their delicate fragrance seemed to waft into her heart, making her smile even sweeter: "So, what are our plans for the next step?"
Lynn had already planned the itinerary in her mind, but she deliberately kept it a secret for now: "Come with me and you'll find out, it's guaranteed to be a surprise." The two walked side by side on the bustling street, occasionally exchanging smiles, a subtle sweetness filling the air. Lynn led Lily to an art gallery hidden deep in an alley, where a photography exhibition about urban memories was being held.
