A mage? A spell engineer!

Chapter 195 Reverse Ray

Chapter 195 Reverse Ray

Feuerbach's idea made Rorschach feel like his brain was about to evaporate, but thankfully it wasn't completely wasted. Recalling the long string of wildly imaginative words the other had spoken, he first posed a question:

"Master Feuerbach, if that draft paper wasn't yours, could you perfectly restore it the second time you cast the spell?"

Feuerbach exhaled a smoke ring, smiled, and nodded: "In fact, my demonstration was misleading, and you saw through it, just as I expected."

"Faust's invention of the reversal magic is ultimately just to cancel the spell's state. In other words, whether it was the fire he lit with the trick or the 'Undying Flame' he cast, it was merely extinguished."

"Restoring the parchment is a further step in his thinking, extracting the state before burning from the history of my intervention and giving it a target. This involves time, a very mysterious field."

Furthermore, the restoration of symbols can only be achieved if I have sufficient knowledge of them and pay a higher price. For example, if I want to restore a book that was destroyed by magic and that I have never read, it requires a profound understanding of divination and consumes a great deal of resources.

This also shows that if a lethal spell damages a target, a non-lethal, perhaps reversal ray, might be able to avert the injury, while a shattered soul and extinguished intellect—in any case, a fatal wound that takes effect immediately cannot be undone.

Rorschach nodded. It seemed he had misunderstood from the start, thinking the Reversal Ray could completely restore the target item to its state before the spell was cast. Now, after hearing the master's explanation, it seemed more like a simple anti-magic ray, though its effect was already quite powerful. As for Feuerbach's "further advancement," Rorschach wasn't sure if he could do it now.

Before the master could finish speaking, he continued, "But you can use your own creativity. You don't necessarily have to follow my line of thought. Instead, try to apply the principles of [Repair Spell]. Although fusion will complicate individual spells, it is sometimes necessary."

He had Rorschach deploy the Blue Light Barrier to demonstrate again, but the Reverse Ray did not negate it; it only weakened the barrier.

"So what now?" It was still the [Reverse Ray], but Rorschach could feel the familiar ethereal fluctuations. It was his own divine expulsion. This time, the entire barrier was destroyed in one strike, leaving not even a blue light spot behind. Instead, it collapsed into a few pure ethereal fragments.

The two spells currently share a common principle: one targets gods, and the other targets magic. However, the master has combined them, achieving two effects with a single casting action.

This is even better than having a control panel! Rorschach was in awe of the master's skills.

It was getting late, and the gargoyle reminded Feuerbach that he had other plans. Having achieved his goal, Rorschach took his leave, but since he had already brought the blue crystals, he couldn't take them all back.

Rorschach left a bottle of Passivation Transmutation Dust to Feuerbach, gave another bottle to the mage who had introduced him to the Grand Master, and sold the rest.

"You've been talking for so long?" The mage was surprised; a whole morning had passed, which might set a record for visitor conversation time in the Tower of Mystic Arts.

"Do you believe I'm here for class?" Luo Xia patted the other person's shoulder sadly: "I understand why graduating from the Arcane Tower takes so long."

As they passed through the dormitory area, one of the apprentices got tangled in a silk scarf on a May tree, and not only his hand, but also his neck.

"Hey, who cast that spell? He'll suffocate!"

"I'll give it a try." Rorschach raised his hand, and a faint red ray struck the silk scarf that had been enchanted, immediately breaking the prank. The apprentice rubbed his neck and thanked Rorschach.

The magic power consumption was higher than expected, and the panel now displayed "[Feuerbach's Reversal Ray (White)]". Not Faust's? Rorschach was secretly surprised and continued walking towards the hall.

"Ah! Natural scenery is so relaxing!" Visiting Archmage Feuerbach gave me the feeling of being swept up in knowledge and thought. Rorschach was also glad that he had followed Cano to study and research, as solving practical problems was more suitable for him.

Rorschach now recognized the location of the stables and found the mount he had come from. He mounted the horse and crossed out the line "Three Visits to the Tower of Mystic Arts" from his notebook; the next line was "Inspection of the Dye Workshop".

The pre-wedding tour of the glass town was done with Newsingen, and the two outsiders had a very unpleasant argument. Although Rorschach ultimately won, he is now determined to have Mr. Hassai accompany him.

Since the shareholding structure had already been finalized, there was no need to worry about interference from the Baldorom Chamber of Commerce. Rorschach traveled through the mountain roads and eventually arrived in Munnik, where he booked a hotel room.

As for why he didn't go straight back to Lanshte, it's because Rorschach didn't know the way!

Movement is relative. Rorschach found out that the dye workshop Munnik had one, so he chose to write a letter to summon Mr. Hassai over and then lay down in his room to rest for a while.

When Mr. Hassai set off, Rorschach went to the Magic Guild to buy some learning scrolls. Now, at the level of an intermediate mage, one scroll is enough to learn some low-level spells.

The two discussed it at the beer hall. After hearing Rorschach's intentions, Hassai was somewhat worried: "Is it alright to give people the dye used on wool and cloth to drink?"

"Some are indeed toxic." Rorschach admitted that synthetic dyes are often very dangerous, but there are many colorants that are natural or extracted and modified from natural materials, which people usually consume, so they should be fine.

"Firstly, the amount of colorant used will not be too large, and secondly, we will try to choose non-toxic or slightly toxic ones." The last reason was not said aloud. At present, there are no relevant laws in the kingdom. As long as you don't knock someone out and make them spit out their saliva all at once, no one will pursue the matter.

"We don't use pigments from minerals or coal, but even natural pigments require skilled technicians and basic solvent extraction and blending," Rorschach asked Hasai while eating a sausage. "What new flavors are we planning to add?"

The merchant immediately reported, "Apple and orange flavored."

"Okay." Rorschach recalled his knowledge from his previous life: green can be achieved using chlorophyll, which can be extracted from purchased pasture. The most economical option in his previous life was silkworm excrement—the pellets of droppings from silkworms, which retain chlorophyll from mulberry leaves. Of course, all green leaves contain chlorophyll, but as everyone knows, chlorophyll is not very stable, especially in transparent glass bottles, where light and oxidation will denature and decompose it, requiring processing into sodium copper chlorophyll salt.

Rorschach gave a brief explanation, making poor Hassai experience the same bewilderment Rorschach felt in Feuerbach's office: "Sorry, Mr. Rorschach, I don't understand." Extracting the green from leaves is so complicated? Isn't it just a matter of juicing?

Rorschach shrugged: "That's why I said we should hire a professional to do it."

Orange is straightforward; many high-quality pigments can be extracted from plants, such as curcumin and red pigment extracted from beetroot. This means Fonda has all the necessary pigments, and they aren't synthetic, so they won't negatively impact the average lifespan of the Kingdom of Byrne.

The next day, the two traveled by carriage to a dye workshop near the capital. Before they even got close, Mr. Hassai could smell a strange odor in the air, a mixture of excrement, grease, and rotten eggs. It was faint yet very complex, and just one breath was enough to double the discomfort in the carriage.

As he crossed the bridge, he also noticed that the stream that was about to flow into the Duma River was of an ominous color.

"Ah! That familiar feeling!" Rorschach took a nostalgic sniff before casting the [Filtered Air Bubble] spell on himself and Hasegel—a spell he had specifically learned to enter the workshop.
