A mage? A spell engineer!

Chapter 217 The End of the Curse

Chapter 217 The End of the Curse

Inhuman screams echoed in the ward.

Rorschach and Cano's expulsion enraged the will residing in the donkey skin. Although the vessel was destroyed, the dying youth remained, and more and more "things" crossed time and space to converge at this time and place.

He came.

The first to notice and feel it most deeply was probably Varan himself. He felt difficulty breathing as the scorching wind, accompanied by millennia-old dust, rushed into his face, filling his fragile nasal cavity and lungs.

"Something is coming." The young man placed all his hopes on the four monks present. He lay there, while they stood, observing him from above.

He had originally intended to warn the mages, but this perspective made Varang realize he was lying on the chopping block. "You've harmed me." This stirred a tiny bit of resentment within Varang, which was then keenly observed by the mysterious being, who amplified this emotion and successfully dragged Varang's soul into a realm he had never known before.

Varen himself vaguely heard the words "expulsion" and "god of change," and in his eyes, he was no longer lying in a hospital room, but in endless quicksand. Outside the window, it had darkened at some point, and a new moon rose in the azure sky, shining with a cold and merciless light.

The young man faced the cold moonlight, while behind him, quicksand surged and threatened to engulf and consume him. The scorching wind had vanished with the rising moon, and so had the figures of the mages. Varang was gripped by extreme terror.

However, in an instant, a strange red light shattered everything and penetrated his pitiful, collapsing soul. This wisp of soul no longer weighed 21 grams, but it did carry the entire will of Varon and was irresistibly pulled into the air by the red light.

"I curse you, you arrogant fool! I curse you for breaking my covenant, I curse you for angering a god!"

A chilling voice rang out behind Varon, and at the same time, a familiar and clear phrase entered his mind:

"His final curse has ended; do not look back."

Rorschach's words dispelled his panic; he wouldn't look back. Varon's soul finally found peace, allowing himself to be drawn by the red light. In that extremely brief moment, the red light was interpreted as a scene he had never seen before.

Towers of glass; dazzling lights; countless messages and patterns flashing through gleaming windows; a forest of steel, with pipes tangled and spewing white mist.

Then came something he couldn't understand: countless symbols, seemingly woven into a long scroll with a regular pattern, yet unrecognizable and indescribable. Finally, something seemed to be revolving around a center, something rose and fell like the sea, something...

It collapsed just like his own consciousness.

Thankfully, this forced sleepwalking scene only lasted a moment before receding into a crimson light. Once it all dissipated, his vision returned to normal—

Sunlight, a fairly comfortable room, four guys looking down from above. They're all back, he himself is back.

Valen coughed violently, and Rorschach quickly stepped forward to hand him a towel. After coughing up a patch of blood, the patient immediately felt much better.

"Baran? Chulimo? Tote?" Rorschach called out three names to the now-conscious Varen.

Varan was confused: "Master Rorschach, are you saying..."

"He doesn't know him." Rorschach breathed a sigh of relief and turned to look at Cano.

In Varan's eyes, Master Cano must have been in some kind of spellcasting state. He did not respond to Rorschach immediately, but instead said after dispelling the spell, "He was not lying, unless the god of change could deceive my magic."

Rorschach quickly pointed his cane at Varen: "Just to be on the safe side..."

"Don't be nervous. It's just the fragmented wills of a few lives that have been collected. Even if it possesses little Varon, I'm confident I can send it away," Cano reassured Roscia and Varon.

After the doctor confirmed that the young man was alright, the alchemy department staff went out to stand guard outside the door. Kano left first, with Rorschach following a few steps behind.

It's over. Although the illness hasn't left, Varen optimistically believes he's no longer cursed or controlled by that evil donkey skin, and everything will be alright.

Once everything is settled, I'll take the money to the countryside, buy an estate, and live the life of a wealthy man.

Suddenly, Luo Xia stopped in his tracks, making Varan, who had just begun to imagine a wonderful pastoral life, tense up again.

The sorcerer's voice was very soft, barely audible to the patient: "Did you see anything in the last moments before you were possessed?"

Varen struggled to recall the terrifying experience. He remembered being transported through a strange dream in an instant, but like most dreams, it was completely blurry upon waking: "It was a very strange sight, but I don't remember it. Even if I could recall fragments, I couldn't describe it to you."

Would this answer satisfy Master Rorschach? Varon was somewhat uneasy: "Sir, I'm sorry, please believe me."

"No need to apologize, please get some rest, just don't forget our agreement." Luo Xia said and left the room.

After getting off the carriage, Valen returned to the mining company he had "absent" from for two days. Fortunately, the day before yesterday was the last day of the ten-day period, so strictly speaking, he had only skipped one day of work.

As a general manager, this is nothing.

Before entering the gate, he finished the last of his tranquilizer: "Ugh, this tastes awful."

"I'll give you feedback, and next time I'll add something to improve the flavor." Now, two strong and burly men from the Alchemy Department have been assigned by Cano to be Varen's bodyguards, and such security is necessary until Varen completes his mission.

"No need. The damn bitter taste reminds me that I'm a patient taking medicine."

Many employees noticed the general manager's return in the hall. His secretary was the first to rush down: "Sir, where have you been? I went to ask Mrs. Perron, who was with you at the end. She kicked me out of the mansion and also went to see Miss Madeleine, Miss Julia, and Mrs. Skitan."

Wow, the guy behind me almost couldn't hold back, and he looked at the small figure in front of me with new eyes.

Valen stopped his secretary from reading out the list of major female clients: "Uh, stop! I had some personal matters to attend to on my day off, and I didn't expect to still be dealing with them yesterday."

He noticed that his secretary was looking at the "bodyguards" with suspicion, so he took the initiative to explain: "These two are guards from my family. They have now come here to serve as my personal bodyguards."

The secretary nodded: "I'm so glad you're alright. I was so worried. The security situation in Valuwana has deteriorated again, so it would be great if you could have more bodyguards." As everyone knows, the Valen family was once very powerful, so her explanation did not arouse any suspicion.

The four went upstairs, and the secretary made arrangements for the bodyguards: "Do you two need wages? We'll use the company's account. I'll immediately instruct the servants to vacate the room next to your office for the two guards to stay in."

"No need, just let them stay in my office."

This action clearly violated company rules and made the secretary feel that her position and role were threatened: "This..."

"They're my own people, they're fine. Get back to reporting on the work of the past two days."

So Varen sat down behind his desk, with bodyguards standing on either side. His secretary could only pretend the two men weren't there, and proceed with his reports and submitting the documents Varen needed to approve.

After the secretary left, one of the "bodyguards" began casting a spell, while the other reminded Varon, "Let's begin as instructed by Master Kano and Mage Rorschach."

"Okay." Varang obediently handed the document to the alchemist.
