A mage? A spell engineer!

Chapter 22 The Rain of Forbidden Magic Weeps

Chapter 22 The Rain of Forbidden Magic Weeps

"Is it raining?"

Autumn and winter should be dry and rainless in most parts of mainland China, so this rain that came without warning is so abnormal.

Suddenly, Rorschach, Unuk, and Tasia all felt extremely unwell, and even the dwarf, who was usually highly resistant and even slow-witted, noticed that something was wrong.

Including priests, they are all spellcasters in a broad sense.

"The magic in the environment no longer flows, it becomes chaotic."

Rorschach tried the most basic spell, [Magic Drive], but failed. It was like trying to grab a handful of sand in a sandstorm; he would get nothing and instead get his hands cut by the high-speed sand.

"Senior, you're bleeding from your nose!" Tasia noticed Rorschach's condition and alerted him. She tried to use magic to heal Rorschach, but failed, and her face grew even paler.

Rorschach had no time to worry about his own condition; he quickly asked Unuk, "Can you still cast spells?"

Unuk also tried, raising his hand to make a gesture. He failed to cast the spell and his expression changed drastically: "Their experiment has progressed to this point?" He quickly calmed down: "Don't worry, there's no need to force the spell. The sacrifice has definitely failed now."

The magical winds went from surging to becoming chaotic and impossible to cast spells, and now they are gradually receding. The external magical energy in this place has been completely depleted. The dramatic changes happened in an instant.

As the magic in the environment dried up, Rorschach felt his own intrinsic magic dissipating spontaneously without any replenishment. For a spellcaster, this was undoubtedly torture, like catching a fish and leaving it exposed to the air.

Rorschach had a sudden realization amidst his pain: even without casting spells, there is a balance between the magic within the human body and the magic in the environment. Although the absolute values of the internal and external magic are not simply equal, if the difference between the two sides is too great, the magic of the other side will tilt towards the former.

This kind of discovery requires the combined experience of exhausting one's magic and being in a place without magic, and whether Rorschach was lucky or unlucky, he experienced all sorts of feelings in a short period of time.

As the magic faded, the rain intensified, drenching everyone. The torches, flaming fires, and the burning straw-stuffed lambs were all extinguished, and the swirling smoke that had disturbed our minds was washed away by the rain.

Then, in the darkness of the night, where the firelight had died down, the people, just awakened from their slumber, began to scream and cry out in pain. As their eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness, they were met with hostile gazes from all around, as if they were strangers.

Rorschach sensed the magic in the environment returning, as if it had just been a brief magical vacuum. He prepared a fireball, ready to unleash the power of a mage if necessary.

"Don't move! The special forces are here!"

"Everyone stay still! Everyone stay still! Crouch down!" Several small airships arrived over the city, and the crew released the already charged reels, emitting focused beams of light that swept across the ground.

"Everyone! Get out of the light circle! Warning! Those who remain in the light circle will bear the consequences!" The beam fixed, and the airship released armored warriors. After landing, they untied their ropes and began to swing their whips.

Rorschach noticed that all the warriors were enchanted with light spells; the raindrops that illuminated them were deflected, suggesting they were also protected by shield-like spells. In the darkness, these tall, heavily armored figures radiating white light possessed a sacred and imposing aura, and their mere presence on the ground quickly quelled the commotion in the crowd.

At this moment, Unuk cast a spell of light and loudly announced to the nearby warriors, "This is Unuk, the garrison mage! Please allow me to speak with your commander!"

Two warriors approached step by step, and the civilians passing by shivered in the rain and hurriedly made way for them.

"Master, who are these people?"

"Rorschach, an Imperial Certified Spellcaster from the capital." Rorschach handed over his mage badge, then added the Imperial Spellcaster ID card: "This gentleman, lady, and dwarf gentleman are my companions."

The samurai confirmed the badge and returned it to Rorschach: "My lord mage, please do not move. You and your companion will need to come with us later."

Meanwhile, an eight-man squad of heavily armored warriors separated the people in the center of the stage from the rest of the civilians. The people in the center remained unusually fanatical; they ignored the orders from the airship and suddenly launched an attack.

The warriors first tried to drive them away with whips, but when they found it ineffective, they threw the whips away and drew their blades.

After a few sharp sounds, some people were separated from their heads, and the rainwater was mixed with dark red and a fishy smell.

"Leave them alive." The samurai who gave the order wore a crimson cloak, unlike the others. After he gave the order, two samurai strode forward and each pinned down a troublemaker, immobilizing them under the weight of the steel hands.

Suddenly, a man dressed in fine clothes and wearing a mask leaped into the air beside the stage, seemingly launching himself away in an attempt to escape.

"A spellcaster inside? No, it's more like the effect of a scroll or a magical item." Unuk raised his hand to try to aim, and a crossbow bolt was shot at the man, but it moved extremely fast in the darkness and was about to break through the blockade in the square.

"You lackeys think you can catch me? Hahahaha!"

The man flew over the samurai, leaving behind a mocking scream.

"Mr. Unuk, please light up the sky near him."

"Okay." Unuk condensed a rotating halo of light and launched it upwards, successfully illuminating the flying man in the air.

Then, without warning, the man in the air changed course. He was still struggling, but it was no use, and he fell straight to the ground.

The fall slowed down when he was still a few steps from the ground. The man, who was already in tears, was overjoyed. However, he soon realized that he was being held firmly by an invisible hand and could not move. He could only watch helplessly as he was surrounded and arrested by the samurai.

The samurai standing beside the two mages witnessed everything and couldn't help but wonder if he could even get close to such an enemy. Although Rorschach couldn't see the face behind the samurai's helmet, the way he looked at the boy was definitely different.

"Good! The cultists will be brought to justice!" Unuk applauded for Rorschach. Indeed, it was law, the law of magic.

"Brother, what kind of magic is that?" Unuk realized that his standards for first-tier mages did not apply to the boy in front of him.

"The Hand of the Mage."

"Brother, did you just grab him from mid-air? Does a mage's hand have that kind of range and strength?"

Rorschach suddenly worried that Unuk might have some strange misunderstanding about him: "Hmm, my mage's hand is quite strong?"

"Then you must share your training method, my brother!" Unuk really wanted to know if Roscia's dominant hand was not his left hand or his right hand but the Mage's Hand.

"Gah gah!" Yaz on Rorschach's shoulder dusted off its feathers.

The rain is even heavier tonight.
