A mage? A spell engineer!

Chapter 235 Secret Experiment Base

Chapter 235 Secret Experiment Base

"But you only have the right to make suggestions, not the right to make decisions."

"Of course, I understand."

Necker successfully won himself the position of "Economic Advisor of the Magic Guild" through his eloquent speech, and he firmly believed that this was just a gap year for the Kingdom's Treasurer: "You will find that the investment is worthwhile, and when the royal carriage stops for me again to invite me to become the Treasurer, you and all the mages will receive my most loyal reward."

Kano ignored Necker's promise: "Alright, what are you planning to do next?"

The high priest realized that it was necessary to restrict the former minister's personal freedom to prevent him from doing anything out of line while in custody.

Necker ordered a glass of white wine for himself; he had made enough money for the royal family, it was time to treat himself. He took a small sip.

"Writing! I must articulate my economic and financial theories to maintain my popularity among the people. If I were to be imprisoned one day, what would be more terrifying than temporarily losing my freedom of movement is that everyone forgets me."

"In one respect only, you are a brave and fearless man," Cano commented, then asked the minister to leave the restaurant to avoid the meal being completely ruined.

Necker was placed in a guild-designated hospital with a private "ward," a situation strikingly similar to that of his "apprentice," Varen. The guild promised to provide him with newspapers, paper, pens, and books for writing, and to allow his wife to visit him once a week.

The duration of the protection is up to him to decide; let Necker himself judge whether His Majesty the King has calmed down.

"Your Majesty and the wise prime minister will understand that no one but me can do that position better."

After seeing the confident guy off, Cano shook his head: "To be honest, I'm starting to regret it now. If there are any problems, we can only dissolve this 'alchemist' in a strong acid alchemy solvent. I don't think Fort Basti can hold him."

Rorschach got up to say goodbye and left the restaurant at the Tower of Starlight Torch.

The Sene River flows ceaselessly, and as early summer arrives, the entire city of Valois heats up. The currency has stabilized after the new policies, and the people of Valois have suffered a heavy blow. Those brave enough to act have merely demolished or burned down the facades of a few banks. After spitting out their anger and the resurgence of physical currency, everything seems to have returned to normal.

After all, people still have to live. After all, the people below have become accustomed to being exploited. As long as they can still afford bread, whether they leave their descendants a large silver coin or a few copper coins is something they have no time to consider or lament.

However, if we're talking about what impact remains, the owners of those small restaurants and shops have truly suffered unacceptable losses. They have lost their former glory, and many shops have put up "For Sale" signs, but no one is interested. In the end, they simply close their shops and pack up their belongings to pay off debts. These people don't even have the courage to ask the bank for an explanation, and can only sigh and live a miserable life.

The days in the Holy Kingdom were getting hotter and hotter, and more and more people realized that the "sun" above their heads was scorching them. Especially thanks to the "Report," private and public cursing increased.

In the past, only young people talked loudly about "dangerous topics" in teahouses. Now, everyone is talking about it. When the security team patrols encounter such things, they only give a token warning and take some money from the owner before leaving.

It was in this atmosphere that the factory opening frenzy that had started six months ago cooled down, but this did not include the trading companies under the Magic Guild.

"Clang!" The glass bottle of sparkling wine collided with the hull of the boat, and a gracefully curved small boat was pushed into the water from the shore, stirring up waves. People applauded enthusiastically; it was Pascal who smashed the bottle, and Rorschach joined in the clapping from the crowd behind him.

For safety reasons, the small boat still had sails, but they were not set up. There were no paddle wheels on its hull; instead, it was equipped with a rear-mounted propeller and a modified steam engine in the metalwork section.

Rorschach also contributed to the miniaturization, so he participated in the launching ceremony, while Pascal represented Archmage Cano.

Since Granor's disappearance, all the "noble faction" immediately switched sides, and former opponents of the decentralization of technology to the magic tower and the alchemy department became strong advocates.

After Pascal stepped back, he immediately blended into the crowd. He quickly took off the mage's robe that he had longed for for several years and rolled it up, so that he could have a moment of peace.

"So how many parties have you attended?" Rorschach noticed that Pascal's dark circles were good enough to qualify him for national treasure status.

"Starting last week, with the opening ceremony of Starry Bank, followed by cocktail parties from various trading companies, Kano wanted me to attend. At first, I thought it was a good thing to freeload, how naive I was!"

Pascal is now glued to his concentrated energy potion, casually opening a bottle and downing it in one gulp before continuing, "Club gatherings are becoming more frequent, often going on until late at night. Paulina even asked me to help her organize files. Good junior, I haven't seen you these past few days, you're really abandoning me!"

"You don't only have one junior brother." Luo Xia took a half step back: "As you know, senior brother, I also have a mission to complete."

"Okay, okay," Pascal sighed, as the organizers of the launching ceremony dragged him off to a cocktail party.

The small boat puffed out black smoke as it sailed towards the far end of the Seine River amidst cheers, cutting through the river's surface and the setting sun.

At the launching ceremony, there were also several ships from the Alchemy Department. However, they were powered by a [Wind Creation] magic circle. The mage stood at the stern, steering the ship and channeling magic power into the magic circle, roughly pushing aside the river water at the stern. Their speed was comparable to a speedboat in the original world of Rorschach.

It soon overtook the steam engine x propeller experimental boat, leaving a trail of elegant splashes.

As Rorschach felt the gentle breeze on his face, he wondered what the point of steam engines was with this!

The small boat sped out of the city, bypassing the guards at the water checkpoint before they could even react. Just as Rorschach was about to vomit, the magic speedboat finally slowed down and came to a stop in a desolate area.

"Brother Rorschach!" Greeting him was Snow, the leader of the Alchemy Department. Snow was riding high. Ever since Archmage Cano took complete control of the Magic Guild and implemented his technology decentralization policy, the Alchemy Department had become a hot commodity, with massive resources flowing to it. News about it frequently appeared in the "Elemental Truth Daily".

Now no mage dares to express contempt for the members of the Alchemy Department anymore. Rather, many "aristocrats" have begun to curry favor with Snow. Rorschach doesn't know whether this change is good or bad for the Alchemy Department.

"Give me a bottle of gentian violet." Rorschach desperately needed an energy potion to invigorate himself and get rid of the seasickness debuff.

Snow indeed carried gentian violet with him. He handed it to the visitor and led Rorschach step by step into the wilderness. This was land belonging to the Tower of Stars, neither cultivated into fields nor turned into pastures or hunting grounds.

In American TV shows, it seems like the villains like to kill people in the middle of nowhere. If the character is popular, maybe the writers will arrange for me to kill Rorschach. I looked around at the entire wasteland surrounded by hills, where wild grass was bathed in the setting sun and swayed in the evening breeze.

"Do you know why Master Kano sent you here to find me?" Snow and Rorschach said, standing side by side, looking at the wasteland.
