A mage? A spell engineer!
Chapter 259 Requiem
Chapter 259 Requiem
The church bells rang loudly, their sound waves carrying a soothing magic, attempting to lull the entire city to sleep.
If the whole city falls into panic, the consequences will likely be even more severe. Rather than letting them trample and fight each other while fleeing, it's better to just sleep it off and wait for the "natural disaster" to pass.
Of course, the civilians affected were not completely abandoned. The area around the angels emitted divine power stronger than the evening bells of the church, and the paladins were dispatched to try to evacuate the ordinary people they could reach.
Fortunately, the Lord and His closest servants are merciful. Terror befalls everyone, but only cultists are harmed.
A sword appeared in the sky above the gathering point of the "Return to Our Lady" church throughout the city. The sword, which was originally a struggle between light and darkness, holiness and defilement, suddenly burst into flames, and the flames and the blade cleaved down together.
All the strongholds were destroyed, but that wasn't enough. The roar of the lion echoed over Valuwana, and all of Seraphim's eyes burst open from the middle, turning into countless gaping maws in the abyss.
The gigantic maw generated a powerful "suction," drawing in everything from Mother Earth: souls corrupted by herbs and rituals, blessed limbs and livestock, and scrolls recording evil rituals.
"No! No! My soul wants to return to my mother's embrace, no!" The elders of the cult felt themselves being pulled out of the real world. Their cult had originally received a call from the "holy relic" of the Valois capital and had infiltrated from afar.
The Order also brought other sacred objects accumulated from Istani and the Empire, attempting to launch the grandest awakening ceremony in the largest city on the continent, but what they received was the wrath and judgment of the Lord of Order.
The angel sheathed the sword, and after the flames died down, the radiance vanished, turning into an uneven, dark green, covered with cracks.
Suddenly, enormous tentacles burst forth from beneath the angel, resentfully wrapping around Seraphim's wings and body, relentlessly whipping, sucking, and polluting them.
The angel did not struggle, but instead used all its mouths to tear and bite, devouring the tentacles in large gulps, and even the corrosive juices were not spared.
Finally, Mother Earth was completely devoured, and the angel's eight wings all curled up, with a foul, oil-like viscous liquid seeping from between the pure white feathers. As if to resist corrosion, flames ignited all over her body once more.
This enormous fireball began to roll in the sky, burning its phantom image across the night.
Rorschach and the Star-Robed Mage have arrived at the Tower of Starlight Torch.
"The church is desperate and has called in their father! Aren't you going to leave? The entrance to the Tower of Stars is about to close!" shouted the mage who was walking in the opposite direction from the Star Robe troops.
"It's my duty as a star-robed!" Zhen rushed towards the Tower of Starlight without hesitation.
"Hey sis, could you let me off the train when you're charging the tower? I'm just a temporary worker, I don't need to risk my life for you guys." Rorschach originally wanted to cast [Feather Fall] on himself before jumping off the train, but Power unfolded the map and discovered a new situation:
"The aura of all Mother Earth is converging! And then it vanishes?"
The potion on the map was initially displayed as a black dot, which then turned into a bright red spot.
The bright spot was moving at high speed toward the Starlight Tower, like a bullet.
"What the hell?" Soon Rorschach realized what it was—a huge fireball hurtling down from the eastern horizon.
"Into the tower! Into the tower!"
Unexpectedly, the members of the Alchemy Department were still holding their ground in the underground facility, debating whether to activate the 18-meter-tall Alchemist Warrior.
"What's the use of a half-finished product? Connect all the wires to the 'Strings' system." Snow was giving instructions as Rorschach arrived at the base of the Starlight Torch Tower.
"All the energy? We haven't tried such a high load yet."
"We're facing an archangel! He'd better hurry up if he doesn't want to die!" The outputs of the two underground ether generators were all connected to the central support pillar of the Starlight Torch Tower, and all the lights in the research building went out immediately.
The angel's fire had already struck down, and just before it was about to break through the tower, ten layers of blue barriers were placed horizontally in front of the "fire whip." Seraphim's attack shattered the first eight layers and dissipated along with the blue light.
It was Cano who made the move; he stood atop the Starlight Torch Tower, directly facing Seraphim.
Of course, it wasn't just the chief fighting alone. When the archangel was about to charge in headfirst, Poincaré intervened, and the space in front of Seraphim began to distort. The distance, which seemed to be less than a hundred meters, should have been reached in an instant by the angel's original speed, but it couldn't make an inch. The fire and arcs emitted were twisted into chaotic curves in the heterogeneous space.
"The archmage has held off the archangel for us, hurry!"
The pillars of the Starlight Torch Tower lit up with loops, trembling and twisting under the raging influx of ether, yet the entire tower miraculously did not collapse.
The "String System" is a magic system that uses mithril "strings" to play ethereal waves, which can cover the entire city.
Snow urgently explained to Rorschach, "To put it simply, this tower can be seen as an oversized staff. The spells it casts have an oversized power and range, understand?"
After debugging, the first spell was ready. The observatory at the top of the tower became the output terminal, and the huge lens aimed at the target. A ray of extreme cold—no, a storm with a diameter of three meters and a temperature close to absolute zero—roared in.
"Are these guys trying to freeze us to death?" Cano grumbled as he and Professor Poincaré moved away from the "freezing ray pro max" version.
However, the ray did not cause any real damage to the "fireball." The flames were indeed extinguished somewhat, but the angel was still struggling. It frantically shook its feathers covered in ice crystals, and black sludge flowed over its body.
Another lion's roar.
"It seems very sad."
The roar from the archangel pierced through the layers of buildings, and even the mages who remained to fight heard it. Jane looked up and, although she could only see the ceiling, she still felt the pain of that extraordinary being.
Snow watched the monitor: "Damn, it's not working. Should I use a different type of damage?"
"With Seraphim's power, he can't possibly cause any harm." The older brother, who was knowledgeable in theology, rejected the plan.
"Does anyone know how to counter lawful spells? Who's a sorcerer behind the scenes? It doesn't matter today!" Snow started talking nonsense.
"I'll try it." Rorschach wanted to test the hundred-meter-tall staff: "Use the divine power exorcism spell."
"Is this okay? Forget it, there's no better option." The leader of the Alchemy Department directed everyone to cooperate with Rorschach.
Following instructions, Rorschach wrapped his entire body around the pillar.
"Does it have to be this way?" Rorschach asked, facing the wall, feeling a little strange.
"The area of the operator and the 'string' should be as large as possible." The alchemy department member put a headband on Rorschach.
Rorschach accepted the setup and devoted himself entirely to casting the spell. His senses became heightened, and he could suddenly perceive angels. Not only was his line of sight level with theirs, but he also felt incredibly tall, with the buildings beneath him appearing like models.
The pillar was lit up again, and now its path had changed, resonating throughout the tower and the entire pastoral street.
It wasn't a ray, but a horizontal wave that burst forth, sweeping across the entire city of Valuvana. Seraphim, who was directly hit, cried out in agony as His Holy Body and the filth vanished in the invisible wind.
The lion's roar, which resonated deeply with people, grew fainter and fainter until it disappeared into the sky above the capital along with the archangel.
As the Requiem ended, the dark clouds dispersed, and moonlight shone on the ravaged earth.
