Chapter 306 The Covered Ghost
Chapter 306 The Covered Ghost
Benedict then defended the contact between the resistance organization and the cult: "His Majesty Sylvanas, the Elf King, is our king, and Druyaz taught us to maintain the balance of nature and find the way to survive, just like our teacher."
"But in the First War of the Gods, the Elves lost the protection of two gods in succession: Sylvanas disappeared, and Dryujaz fell. His power dissipated, and his knowledge was absorbed by you mages. We Elves became an outcast."
"So it's not hard to understand why we're willing to accept a Mother Earth with similar power, right? Some suspect that she is our King or Druyaz returning in some form, while others speculate that she is the ancient goddess 'Danu' returning to the earth."
"In short, as long as the gods bless us, the fate of the Grey Elves and our entire race will improve! Just like when Istani was protected by Ish."
In the eyes of Benedict and the Elven resistance, Mother Earth and Is were essentially no different; as long as they could help them overthrow the regime, that was enough. The sacrifices the Istani people made to Great Is were no less or more lenient than what Mother Earth was asking for now.
The elves reflected on their history and concluded that whoever believed in the strongest leader was the most powerful. Didn't the sudden rise of humans, a short-lived species, simply mean they had climbed onto the coattails of the Lord of Order? Therefore, when Mother Earth appeared, the higher-ups of the resistance did not regard her as a monstrous threat.
You call Him an evil god? Is not exactly a saint either, is he?
However, neither Benedict nor any of the resistance members in Storm City were fully devoted to Him, nor were they tainted by the power of the Mother Goddess; otherwise, Rorschach would have sensed it from the very first meeting.
"Power resides in the heart, wisdom in the mind?" Rorschach was interested in this sentence. In short, it meant there was something good inside the statue, right?
Caroline also said, "If this so-called grave isn't sealed off, then the way out should be found nearby."
As they began their deeper exploration, they realized they were already in the stone chamber on the left side of the chest. Rorschach exclaimed, "Professor Caroline is so lucky; she teleported us to the entrance in one go."
Caroline's expression turned strange upon hearing the praise: "Rorschach, didn't you notice such obvious engravings when you were examining the statue? Although not exactly the same, the loop on the left chest can be seen as a variant of a short-range teleportation array."
Luo Xia broke out in a sweat, feeling as if he had been discovered by his teacher during an internship to be lacking in professional knowledge.
"Oh, is that the next entrance?" Fortunately, Rorschach made a new discovery: one wall inwards seemed to be made of horizontally stacked stone blocks, while the other walls were a single, seamless whole.
The marks on it were still there, but this time they weren't related to space magic circles, and Caroline couldn't see anything amiss.
"Let's just blast it over there." Rorschach picked up his cane, ready to unleash his power.
Benedict became enraged and shouted, "How dare you!"
Bang! He was slammed against the wall by Rorschach's "Hand of the Kirin". "Cough cough cough, I meant this is the holy land of the elves, please allow me to try it out first, sir mage."
"Your magic is negligible, why even try?"
Rorschach's question was answered; Benedict took out a wooden mask and began a bizarre dance toward the door.
As he began to move all his muscles, even without accompaniment, Rorschach and Caroline felt a rhythm, and the magic in the environment seemed to be stirred by the dance.
It's an interesting technique, but in Rorschach's opinion, the efficiency of casting spells by a single person is too low.
Unfortunately, Benedict jumped up and down in a sweat, but the loop on the door didn't respond.
"It seems your ancestors didn't appreciate this dance." Rorschach sarcastically remarked before resorting to his old trick. Blue fluorescent light flowed through the back door of the loop, and sure enough, it opened. The heavy stone slabs slid to both sides, creating an opening. Inside, emerald green energy clusters surged rhythmically, like a beating heart.
It was only after the fact that Xinluoxia realized that the huge stone slab was equivalent to a rib.
Benedict stared at Rorschach incredulously, glancing repeatedly at his ears.
Why would the relics of his ancestors recognize him? Benedict began to suspect that Rorschach might be an elf lurking among humans or possess a faint royal bloodline.
"A very harmonious energy. Pure, and ever-renewing," Caroline commented as she looked at the abundant emerald green light.
It was fixed to a brass base, with a few thin threads extending upwards, connecting the top and bottom of the colossus.
"How do we get to the 'brain'?" Rorschach dared not make any rash moves against this lump of energy. In his view, exposing the energy ball like this was too dangerous. It was clearly not pure magic, but more likely divine power left behind by Sylvanas. For mortals, this was far too dangerous.
If the [Divine Exorcism Technique] is used, can it be restored to the purest ether, or will something else appear? Just as Rorschach was getting restless, a beam of light suddenly separated from the energy cluster and enveloped Rorschach.
"Rorschach!" Caroline tried to grab Rorschach's hand again, but everything happened too suddenly. Soon Benedict was also enveloped, and the two of them shot upwards at an extremely fast speed along the path of light, leaving Caroline stunned in the "atrium".
"Where am I?" When the light descended, Rorschach briefly fainted. When Rorschach woke up, he found himself in a room with a hemispherical dome. Milky white magic lamps shone on the floor, and in the middle stood a stone platform containing a milky white fluorescent substance that looked like light and water.
He boldly speculated that he and the elf had reached the "top of the head".
Benedict also woke up, and their awakening seemed to trigger an event, as ghostly figures materialized from the milky white fluid on the stone platform.
He wore a huge turban and a robe, and had a thick, curly beard. Mysterious runes could be seen changing and flowing on his robe and turban.
"Impossible, why is it a human?" Benedict exclaimed in disbelief. The person who appeared was a human sage from the Sand Kingdom.
Legend has it that the twelve statues were modeled after the images of the prophets, elders, and great druids under the Elf King's throne, and that they likely housed their wisdom.
"I found the magic you elves used quite amusing, so I erased the original owner's existence. It's alright, he was just a boring old man anyway," the wise man rambled on.
"Your ancestors were quite ingenious. They extracted a fragment of memory and filled it into refined soul sand to create a pseudo-ghost. However, I think its true application should be in creating more advanced tower spirits, which might even be able to cast spells on their own."
In a fit of grief and rage, Benedict drew his dagger and charged toward the ghostly sage in a war dance.
The mysterious man frowned: "Are the descendants of Sylvanas so presumptuous? Your king should be much more polite." With that, he flicked his finger, and a green crystal struck Benedict precisely between the eyebrows, disappearing into his forehead and causing the elf to faint instantly.
"I originally intended to solemnly transfer the old man's memories, but I didn't expect him to be in such a hurry." It seems that the mysterious man did not completely destroy the elves' legacy in the holy land. Luo Xia guessed that the crystal just now was probably a backup of the original owner, and the current device was occupied by the mysterious man.
Judging from the wise man's words, Luo Xia believed that the other party was someone comparable to the Elf King. Although he was now a remnant soul, he was likely a powerful human mage.
"Are you a ghost? Or a fragment of some great god's memory? Or...?"
"Hold on, you're quite the guesser, young man." The mysterious sage looked cheerful; the recent incident hadn't spoiled his good mood. "I am *****."
"..." Luo Xia waited respectfully for the wise man to announce his name, but he only saw the phantom's mouth open and close, without making a sound.
The other party tried again using the [Communication] spell, but Rorschach still couldn't hear it.
The wise man from the Sand Kingdom, having given up the attempt, became somewhat dejected. His emotions were undisguised and revealed on his face. Finally, he said, "It seems 'I' am not allowed to announce my name. Fine."
The resigned wise man rallied, forcing a smile from his beard: "You've finally come, Rorschach."
So everyone here knows my name? The boy was a little numb.
