A mage? A spell engineer!

Chapter 587 The Development of the Emergency

Chapter 587 The Development of the Emergency

The original pollution at Opfer should have been removed.

But now, beneath the ruins, the power of the Mother Goddess surges again, as if she were merely rising and falling like the tides of the sea.

Now, the brief ebb tide has ended.

Gregory's original fate should have been that his body would begin to devour and twist itself until it disappeared from the scene, no longer existing in the prime material plane. However, the Mother Goddess once again showed him favor.

"Cough cough cough" Gregory was given human form again, but the process was not smooth. He gagged for a while and finally spat out his finger and a small piece of scalp.

"Ugh—I swear I'll wash my hair more often from now on!" Especially since he had greasy long hair, which stuck to his throat and mouth as he vomited, making people feel extremely nauseous.

After assembling himself up, Gregory, tears welling in his eyes, ignored the filth beneath him and lay prone on the ground. This was a tradition passed down from the higher echelons of the cult, said to bring one closest to Mother Earth through this ritual.

After the bombing, there were hardly any large living or dead bodies left to use or sacrifice. Therefore, Gregory, who was probably the only survivor in the area, began to seek other ways to please Mother Earth.

"I've got it! I'll sacrifice myself!" Gregory laughed from the bottom of his heart, like a child who had found a toy.

"Calling the Tower of First Flame. Calling the Tower of First Flame, please respond."

The magic guild realized something was wrong.

The Imperial branch headquarters, which had moved from the capital to Württemberg, was in chaos. They received complaints from all over the country, and more and more reports were finally being compiled.

Today, two important nodes went offline. After troubleshooting all technical issues, the guild reported the situation to the Senate.

Within the Empire, both the Forest Tower and the Arcane Tower received the news simultaneously. Master Kober, rarely so enraged, unleashed a torrent of abuse on the branch leader:

"Nearly four hours have passed since the Imperial Army began its operation! Why is it taking so long to report such a major event?! Have you forgotten about Oward?"

The chairman's forehead was covered in sweat, and his thick lips began to tremble: "We have always been worried that the temporary offline status of the node was caused by a technical malfunction."

"The Upfair Guild mentioned at the end that a battle would occur, and with the chief of the Tower of First Flame in charge, we assumed the Senate was aware of this, we assumed... we assumed..."

"How could there be an accident?" His last words were filled with unease and confusion.

It can't be entirely blamed on this foolish guild leader; he has never seen or imagined any situation that even the chief of one of the thirteen magic towers couldn't handle.

"Now it seems that the worst-case scenario, which is also the one with the most clues, is that the Tower of First Flame is in serious trouble." Kober's face was gloomy.

In addition to the two tower chiefs who received the news, Rorschach and the other two jointly took charge of the Opfer incident and asked Istani's magic tower to reinforce the Tower of First Flame.

The three archmages arrived at the nearest teleportation node one after another, and then Feuerbach opened the portal, ordering Rorschach and Cobb to arrive quickly.

Not far away, Richard had originally planned to have the troops leave, as the transfer and firing preparation of the railway artillery would also require a long time and a lot of work, so he waited patiently for about an hour.

"What's wrong, General?" Franz was about to board the train when he noticed Richard's expression suddenly change.

"Contamination. An evil aura is making a comeback, and it's spreading rapidly!"

There was no time for Franz to relay the message; he directly used magical amplification to shout to his subordinates: "Halt! Halt the transfer! Deploy the artillery immediately and prepare shell number one!"

They used up the No. 2 rounds, which had high-performance gunpowder as the warhead; they still had four No. 1 rounds as spares.

Richard immediately had the cannons propped up again, and even used magic to speed up their progress.

"Are we going to attack Opfer again? There might be friendly forces near the city area right now; we'd risk friendly fire if we did this."

"I'd rather risk friendly fire than fail to follow orders." Richard was very determined, but unfortunately, the reloading speed was extremely slow.

A spatial rift opened without warning, and from it floated out the three leaders—an old, middle-aged, and young man—their mage robes—two red and one dark green, billowing in the wind. Rorschach, leading the group, asked his friend, "Richard, it really is you. What happened?"

He sensed the user of the spell cloud, and the concentration and technique of that magic power were undoubtedly those of a good brother who had been transformed to rival a high-level spellcaster.

Therefore, he suggested to the two archmages that they contact and seek help from a fourth high-level combatant.

"Rorschach!" Richard didn't bother to ask who was behind him or introduce himself. He quickly told him about Opfer and the resurgence of pollution.

"The Imperial troops on the front lines certainly won't have time to evacuate. The polluted environment and magic are spreading rapidly. I need to use these four shells to temporarily stop the spread and buy time for our allies to retreat."

Feuerbach and Rorschach glanced at them briefly and guessed the principle behind the special shells. However, their loading was clearly not that fast; even with Richard's assistance, it would probably take nearly half an hour.

In such a long period of time, most of the Imperial Army's soldiers on the front lines could not escape their fate.

"If it's useful, we can help launch it," Couber suggested.

"You launch?" Before Richard could agree, the chiefs of the Arcane Tower and the Forest Tower took the same action. Using [Mage's Hand] or other magic, they lifted the multi-ton cannonballs into the air and then opened a rift to enter the portal.

The suffocatingly large shells hovered silently behind them, and their appearance on the front line stunned all the soldiers.

They continued their spellcasting, charging up two super-powerful projectiles in full view of everyone, and launching them at lightning speed.

Shortly after, two more colorful explosion shockwaves erupted.

"We'll join in too." Rorschach waved his hand, and the remaining two were completely enveloped in his ethereal membrane, shrunk, and Richard was given the [Guided Shot] ability.

Richard cautioned: "Objects encased in an ethereal membrane cannot be enchanted."

"That's someone else's ether membrane." Rorschach simply asked his friend to confirm the coordinates and provide guidance. Then, he drew up alternating currents in the air, and the air was instantly filled with the smell of rain.

Lightning surged and formed alternating guide rails. Rorschach used the [Flying Arrow Technique] to give two shrunken cannonballs initial velocity. These iron-cased cannonballs instantly passed through the lightning guide rails and were accelerated to astonishing speeds.

As they approached Opfer, the aftershocks of the magical tsunami created by the first two projectiles were still present. The drastically changing magical environment caused the ether membrane to gradually fail, and the two projectiles slowed down and were released back to their original size.

The third and fourth hemispherical shockwaves appeared.

"String magic can barely work in extreme magical environments. You'll teleport with me to the front lines now. Richard, you and the old green-robed mage will oversee the Imperial soldiers' evacuation from the front lines. The other mage and I will deal with the subsequent contamination and see if we can completely purify it."

"Alright. All hands, prepare to evacuate. Move to the supply depot and stand by upon arrival." After giving instructions to his troops, Richard also opened a portal to the front lines.

The magic on the other side of the portal was still raging, so the portal itself was constantly churning. The two of them didn't care about anything else and forced their way through by relying on their physical endurance.

Before leaving, Rorschach glanced back and nodded slightly to Franz, who had been speechless from the start.

"Big brother." Franz felt a strong sense of pressure, both from the tense development of the situation and from the three archmages who suddenly appeared, even though one of them was his brother.
