Chapter 83 Important Intelligence about the Black Forest

Chapter 83 Important Intelligence about the Black Forest

Rorschach couldn't simply use the "Resurrection Technique"; he'd only ever used it on plants. Furthermore, Rorschach didn't know what the consequences would be if the recipient of the "resurrection" was bacteria or cancer cells—it certainly wouldn't be anything good.

In short, this must be treated with caution, which is why he hopes not to reveal his treatment methods to other villagers. If everyone with a chronic illness comes to "Dr. Luo," it's beyond Luo Xia's capabilities.

However, Rorschach was confident about Old Merson's condition. The divine magic's healing abilities against external injuries had been tested twice, in the sub-plane and the Tower of Stars.

Rorschach looked around and closed the doors and windows. [The Forest of Delyuats] activated.

"Whoa~" The old man watched as the blue phantom of the forest filled the entire house. The layout of the village chief's house was even simpler than that of Merkel's, without partitions for different functional areas—this was common in the rural areas of the empire, and therefore the space was more spacious than that of Merkel's house.

The spacious room was now completely filled with the blue fluorescent phantom of the trees, and Rorschach carefully controlled the tree canopy to prevent it from peeking out from the roof.

Firefly lights drifted to the bedside and gathered on the village chief's legs and ribs.

"My God! What kind of magic is this?" Melson touched his chest and abdomen, but there was no trace of healing left, only old scars from his time in the army.

"This is a spell that can't cure all conditions," Rorschach warned as a precaution.

"Oh my, no matter how many times I see it with my own eyes, I still find magic amazing. Rorschach, what does the Black Forest have to do with healing? Did you learn this spell from Long Ears?"

"Can you recognize this as the Black Forest?" Knowing that it was related to "Dryaz" and that the Black Forest had once been named after Dryaz, Rorschach narrowed down the approximate area corresponding to the phantom by comparing tree species: roughly to the east of the forest mountain range.

He couldn't provide any more specific details; he could only hope that the mages of the Forest Tower could narrow down the search area after he demonstrated his magic. Rorschach couldn't possibly conduct a comprehensive search, but he believed that the former residence of a deity would leave traces, including local myths and legends. Peeling back the layers of epic myths would eventually reveal the core of the truth.

"The first battle I fought alongside the Knight was in the Black Forest, where I fought a fierce battle against Long Ears in the name of the Empire."

Are there fairies in the forest?

"There were quite a few in the past; they set up camp in the woods and held sacrificial ceremonies. Rorschach, young man, I might have even been to the place you summoned. Do you see that tallest and biggest tree?"

Huh? The tallest and largest tree? Upon hearing the intelligence, Rorschach quickly activated again, filling the dim phantom with new life.

The old man pointed to a tree crown that stood out from the rest of the tree. Its shape was somewhat peculiar; it had no branches at the bottom, and its straight trunk supported an umbrella-like canopy of leaves.

"Hey, that's it. Back then, people used to hold sacrifices under that tree. There were also legends about giant trees in the Black Forest in the village in the old days, but nobody knows about them now. The battle between me and my team took place under that tree. Even if our whole team hugged it, it wouldn't be big enough. If we could carve a hole in it, the whole village could live there."

Was that a single tree? Rorschach hadn't noticed before, but in the phantom image created by the magic, the tree the village chief pointed out was indeed taller than the others, though only slightly taller.

Could the phantom image projected by magic be a distant scene?

Rorschach had overlooked this point because when [Deryaz Forest] was activated, trees "emerged from the ground," and Rorschach mistook it for part of a tree. In addition, the shape of the phantom made him unaware that he was wrong, and he once thought that this divine spell was just a close-up of a corner of the forest.

As Rorschach shifted his position, he realized he could no longer see the giant tree in the distance, confirming that it was a distant projection of divine magic, and that only a tiny bud could be seen from a specific angle.

"You have such good eyesight!"

"Sigh, I still dream about that battle." The old man lifted his coarse cloth shirt, revealing a long scar surrounded by numerous scabies.

"Fighting long-eared creatures in the forest is no easy feat. They're natural-born archers, hunters, and adept at leaping and bounding through the woods. The long-eared creatures we're exterminating also possess damned witchcraft."

In winter, his exposed belly made him shiver. He pulled down the hem of his coat and continued to recall: "At first, the enemy only shot stones and arrows, but the deeper we went into the forest and got closer to that giant tree, the fiercer they became."

Poisonous arrows that could corrode leather armor, vines that whipped and entangled—that's what injured me, thankfully it prevented me from continuing on, hehe.

He smiled, revealing his missing teeth: "It is said that a thick, yellowish-green smoke rose from under the giant tree, and not only people, but also the surrounding grass and trees rotted. I, on the other hand, was injured and did not participate in that battle."

"That attack style looks so familiar," Rorschach's expression turned serious, and he quickly asked, "How did the final battle go?"

"Among those accompanying the army are a knight and a very powerful mage. To be honest, don't be angry, they're probably more powerful than you, Rorschach." Melson's expression was complicated.

"It's not that I'm saying whose magic is stronger, I don't know either. But that mage has a ruthless streak, even the old hands among our soldiers are afraid of him. In the end, the mage set fire to the Long-Eared Stronghold and burned it to the ground. The leader then led us out of the forest, and that mage didn't come back with us."

"Could you tell me the approximate location?" Rorschach took out a charcoal pencil and a map of the area around Württemberg from his storage ring and handed them to the old man on the bed. The map depicted an area that included this small village (although it wasn't marked) and most of the Black Forest.

"Hey, haven't seen this thing in ages." The old man pressed his face against the map to decipher the writing, then pointed to a town near the foot of the mountain: "We started from here, heading west. We passed through this town the next day."

He gestured: "It took ten days to enter the human settlement in the forest, and another six days to reach the giant tree after the team resupplyed. On the way back, we almost ran out of supplies. Considering the difficult mountain paths, our speed was at least halved."

Merson gestured the distance between the two towns, then halved the distance, measuring sixteen segments westward from the edge of the forest to define a general area.

He thought for a moment and said, "Based on my experience, although our team usually moves in a straight line, it tends to deviate slightly to the right." The village chief then picked up the charcoal pencil and added a circle.

"Thank you, I have obtained very important information."

Old Merson grew uneasy: "Rorschach, tell me what you're going there for? Even though the long-eared creatures there should have been driven away, so many years have passed, I can't be sure. The forest is dangerous anyway."

"Yes, I won't go in alone. I have a mission and will go with the mages from the Forest Tower. They are experts in the forest."

"Like long-eared ones?" Old Merson was unaware of such a group of mages.

Nature magic is indeed inherited from the druid Rorschach. "Like Long Ears, it might even be more powerful."

With everything done, Rorschach's trip to the countryside was coming to an end.

The young man left the wine and some money to old Merkle, a piece of fashionable Valois fabric to Mrs. Merkle, and finally two books of poetry: an epic of a heroic king for Franz, and a selection of poems about flowers, grass, mountains and rivers for Angel.

"If you can't read, ask old Melson to read to you. Let him teach you. The old man is lying in bed with nothing to do," Rorschach told them.

"I want this!" Angel was more interested in the story of the Hero King, so Franz, who was indifferent to books, gave it to his sister directly.

The carriage arrived; it was the same one that had come before. The driver hadn't forgotten Rorschach's appointment.

"Goodbye!" After giving them all a hug, Rorschach boarded a carriage to the town and left the small village.

"Are the roads in the village easier to travel?" The driver could feel that the bumps had lessened as the road approached the village.

"Yeah." Rorschach yawned.
