Chapter 120 The Calm Lake

Alphonse led the three men and rushed out of the door.

Suddenly, everything became clear.

They found themselves in a huge stone cave.

A tranquil lake stretches across both ends, its clear water shimmering under the sunlight reflecting off the moss. Occasionally, fish leap out of the water, creating ripples on the surface.

There are some trees along the lake shore, but they are not very dense.

It seems that no monsters live in this place.

A peaceful and harmonious scene.

Alphonse finally had some free time to treat Mia and the others for poisoning.

After placing the three people on the ground, Alphonse breathed a sigh of relief and wiped his eyes.

He then helped Taixi remove her backpack before channeling his inner energy into each of them to draw out the toxins.

The wound didn't need much treatment; it was just a few small teeth marks, and they had already scabbed over.

Although the poison had been eliminated, the three were still very weak.

However, he was now fully conscious and no longer in a dazed state.

Tessie sighed. "I've read about them in the literature. They're supposed to be succubi. They can read minds, become objects of desire for their enemies, and use telepathy to bewitch people. Once they subdue their enemies, they drain their energy. But I never imagined it would be this real. I just can't bring myself to do it."

In other words, the words you just heard were actually due to telepathy?

"Is that your mother you saw?" Alphonse asked.

Mia didn't need to ask; her mother was her deepest obsession, so it seemed only natural that she would fall victim to the virus.

Taisi nodded and said with a sigh, "From childhood to adulthood, my father forced me to learn blacksmithing from him all the time, but I didn't like forging, so we often argued. It was only because of my mother that I was protected."

Alphonse understood his feelings and turned to Midio, "And you? I haven't heard you mention having a sister, have I?"

Alphonse was most puzzled by Midio's condition. His soul-capturing spell had no effect on him, so how did he fall for it?

"That's a noblewoman from the territory near the magic tower. She's been very kind to me, almost like a sister," Midio replied, looking embarrassed. "I thought she was here in these ruins too, and I was quite startled, and then..."

This was just an excuse; he had lived under his older sister's oppressive influence since childhood, and he would panic whenever his sister appeared.

But how could he tell Alphonse that he was a prince of the Kingdom of Hailant?

The Kingdom of Hailant and the Kingdom of Bastian do not have diplomatic relations, and their relationship is not very harmonious.

Alphonse was skeptical of Midio's reasoning and did not press the matter further.

Seeing familiar faces again still left me feeling somewhat uneasy.

After lying down for a while, Taisi regained some strength and struggled to get up. "To recover my energy, I need to cook some delicious food so I can recover quickly."

As he spoke, he began rummaging through his backpack.

He had already collected quite a few ingredients, which would come in handy.

"My lord, I need your help to find some firewood. I'm really too weak right now."

"No problem," Alphonse replied and immediately went out.

Just as he was about to start cutting down the tree, Alphonse suddenly discovered a large cluster of herbs growing in the bushes beneath it.

The base is triangular, and the upper part is cylindrical; the pedicel is slightly short, the flowers are pale purple, and the tips of the buds are dark purple; the capsule is black, blunt triangular, and elliptical.

Isn't this the forget-me-not?

Yes!

Forget-me-nots are herbs that grow in damp areas near water.

It seems unsurprising that it grows here.

This forget-me-not also has another name, Zi Xuan.

As a poem says, "Thinking of you is like daylily, seeing you makes me forget all my worries."

The forget-me-not got its name from this.

According to Taixi, the forget-me-not is worthless in this world; it can only be used to treat coughs.

However, it is one of the essential herbs for tempering the body.

This was another unexpected surprise; we've collected another medicinal ingredient.

Alphonse cut down all the forget-me-nots, put them back, then returned, used his sword energy to chop down a tree, cut the trunk into small pieces, and brought them back to his resting place.

Taixi had already dug a hole in the mud with the gold dagger, and then went to the lakeside to wash his frying pan and ladle.

Although I brought water in my backpack, it was for drinking and I couldn't waste it.

The lake water looks quite clean, and there are fish swimming in it, so it shouldn't be poisonous.

Just to be on the safe side, Taisi still scooped up a handful, tasted it, and couldn't help but let out a soft "Eh" in surprise.

"What's wrong?" Alphonse asked, turning his head.

"The water is salty," Tessie replied.

Saltwater Lake?

Alphonse was somewhat taken aback, but he didn't think much of it.

The task of cooking should still be left to Tessie, as Alphonse's cooking skills are not very good; they are only barely edible.

Seeing Mia sitting there, hugging her knees, staring blankly at the lake, looking lost and dejected.

Since I transmigrated to this other world, I have never seen her so weak and helpless.

Alphonse leaned closer and patted her on the shoulder. "One day, I will help you rescue your mother. Don't think too much about it."

"Thank you," Mia replied softly.

The fact that the succubus could allow her to see her mother again truly complicated her feelings.

Alphonse couldn't find the words of comfort, so he simply sat down to the side, stuffed the firewood into the pit, and slapped it down to ignite the flames.

Taixi skillfully peeled the outer skin off the stem of the walking mushroom, removed the internal organs from the body of the giant scorpion, cut it into small pieces, and put them all into the frying pan.

Then he poured in water, took out salt, chicken powder and other seasonings from his backpack, and put them into the pot to season.

Since being taught the recipe for chicken powder by Alphonse, this new seasoning has become an indispensable part of his cooking.

While stirring the ingredients, Tai asked, "Wait, are we going to swim over there?"

He had already seen it; the passage was on the other side of the lake.

"I can't swim," Mia said sullenly.

With her strength, she couldn't leap over that vast lake; she would eventually fall into the water.

I can fly!

Alphonse estimated the distance and used his toe sword to fly there with someone, which wouldn't be a problem, just requiring two more trips back and forth.

Before he could speak, Midio interrupted, "It's alright, I have the magic to walk on water!"

"You know so much," Alphonse couldn't help but retort. "Do you need fish scales to walk on water?"

"Why do we need fish scales?" Midio was a little confused.

Alphonse laughed. People from another world wouldn't understand this joke; it was just a lighthearted jab.

The shamans in World of Warcraft used to cast spells using fish scales to walk on water, but later, with the advent of inscriptions, they no longer needed those.

The enticing aroma already filled my nostrils.

Taisi is absolutely right; scorpions are easy to cook.

What's particularly strange is that the glossy black shell turned into an enticing bright red when cooked, while the scorpion meat remained off-white.

"Is this really a scorpion?"

To Alphonse, the scorpion looked like shrimp meat.
