Chapter 123 Mechanism
Chapter 123 Mechanism
"Is this squid tasty?" Midio looked at the giant squid's spindle-shaped body that shimmered with blue light, and its tentacles that were almost as thick as his waist, and swallowed hard.
It wasn't because I was so craving it, but because I was worried that eating it might cause problems.
"You've never eaten squid?" Mia asked.
"No, I've never even seen anyone sell them." Midio gave an awkward smile. "As you know, I've lived in the magic tower since I was a child and don't often have contact with the outside world."
Where in the palace could you find such a huge monster?
"Squid is delicious. You can grill it, steam it, marinate it, or smoke it. It tastes good no matter how you cook it." Taisi had already picked up a machete, ready to cut off all the tentacles of the giant squid.
Midio found the squid to be extremely ugly and bizarre.
Taisi chopped at the tentacles a few times with his machete, but only managed to leave minor wounds. The giant squid's skin was incredibly tough and difficult to cut.
Seeing this, Alphonse drew his sword and quickly sliced off the tentacles.
There are only four of us, so we can't eat much.
The best part of a squid is its tentacles, and it's probably similar for cuttlefish.
Instead of immediately dealing with the tentacles, Taisi crawled into the bloody hole blasted open by the Overlord Sword, wielding the adamantite dagger to drill and cut, causing blue blood to flow all over the ground, spreading a fishy and acrid smell.
Alphonse looked on curiously, "Tess, what are you looking for?"
Taixi held her breath and searched, unable to give a proper answer.
Mia, however, had already seen through his intention and gave the answer, "He is probably looking for the magic crystal core of this giant squid, probably in its brain."
Alphonse then understood what was going on.
Since this giant squid is a demonic creature and quite powerful, it's only natural that it possesses magic crystals.
If it weren't facing me, it would definitely be the undisputed king of this lake.
After searching for a while, Taixi finally found something.
Although the giant squid's body is enormous, its magic crystal is not very large, only about the size of a palm, and is an oval-shaped, bluish-green crystal.
It looks like a crystal clear, smooth and rounded sapphire.
Under the light, you can vaguely see water ripples flowing inside; it should fetch a good price.
"Let's give this magic crystal to Midio. It can be used to make a nice magic wand," Tessie suggested.
"Give it to me?" Midio was somewhat taken aback. He hadn't contributed much to this adventure, and his wand was just a decoy; he could cast spells without it.
But looking at the crystal brimming with water magic, I felt a little tempted.
beautiful.
"Sure." Alphonse didn't mind. "Tessie, you keep this for Midio for now. When we get to the capital, we'll find someone to make him a wand."
Tessie immediately nodded; Midio had nowhere to put it either.
"Thank you!" Midio was overjoyed and thanked him repeatedly.
"It's just a magic crystal, nothing special." Alphonse waved his hand dismissively, then said to Tessie, "Go wash up, we'll grill some more squid."
Taisi had no objection; he was covered in blue blood, and it certainly didn't smell good.
While he was washing up, Alphonse didn't sit idle either; he whittled several long wooden sticks.
Since we didn't have big enough barbecue forks, we had to use wooden sticks instead.
When it comes to cooking ingredients, we still have to go to the West.
Alphonse had absolutely no experience in this area; he had eaten squid a lot, but this was the first time he had ever eaten cuttlefish.
Before long, Taisi came running back, soaking wet.
Midio's cleaning technique can only brush away dust and some less noticeable stains; it won't help with drying clothes.
Alphonse then taught Tessi the trick of using internal energy to dry clothes.
This method is often useful when you're traveling.
After working on it for a while, Tessie finally began to deal with the giant squid's tentacles.
It's not too complicated; you just need to remove the membrane on the tentacles and then cut them into slices for baking.
The pinkish-white meat inside looks very appetizing.
However, Alphonse doubted whether he could even bite through it.
Taixi was quite confident. He used a dagger to make many cuts on the squid slices so that the seasonings could be sprinkled on and the squid would be well-seasoned.
That's his wisdom as a chef.
The technique of "cutting" is still universal, but Western chefs usually make shallow cuts on large pieces of meat like steak to help the heat be transferred to the inside of the meat more evenly, unlike the complex cutting variations in Eastern cooking.
Alphonse's worries were unfounded; the squid meat, roasted until golden brown on both sides, was exceptionally crisp and chewy.
Midio ate with great relish and felt regretful about having to discard most of the squid meat.
Tessie had the same idea. He kept the two small tentacles, wrapped them up, put them in his backpack, and prepared to take them back for the two soldiers to try.
After enjoying a delicious meal, Alphonse and his companions were extremely satisfied.
The giant squid's meat seemed to have a miraculous effect on restoring energy; Mia and the other two were full of energy and had completely recovered.
Crossing the lake was simple; with Midio's water-walking magic, he walked across the lake as if on flat ground.
Upon re-entering the passageway, Alphonse walked ahead with great caution.
Having already encountered several dangerous situations, Alphonse dared not be careless.
The passageway was unusually quiet, and there were no demons in sight.
Only at the far end of the corner, on the wall, is a huge stone-carved human face.
It doesn't seem dangerous at all.
Alphonse and his party then continued walking forward.
As they approached the face, a sudden change occurred.
The eyes of the stone sculpture suddenly lit up.
I don't know if someone stepped on a trigger, causing the mechanism to be activated.
With a loud "boom".
Suddenly, the ground beneath my feet gave way, and a feeling of weightlessness washed over my entire body.
All four of them plummeted downwards.
Midio screamed in terror.
Taisi couldn't help but let out a roar.
Alphonse, however, remained calm under pressure. The sword on his toe flashed, and he paused in mid-air before plunging down and catching Midio in his arms.
He flew swiftly to Taisi, who was plummeting downwards, and grabbed him with one hand.
With a swift movement, he tossed Midio onto his back and shouted, "Hold on tight!"
Midio, still shaken, followed Alphonse's advice and put his arm around Alphonse's neck.
Alphonse's intervention was, of course, to rescue Mia.
But then they discovered that Mia's downward momentum had slowed down, and a whirlwind had caught her body.
Yes.
Mia's element is wind. Although she cannot fly, she can still slow down her descent.
Alphonse still caught up and reached out his hand.
Mia did not resist, dispelling the whirlwind barrier and grabbing Alphonse's arm.
The mechanism seemed to be a one-time event, with countless heavy stones falling down.
Even Mia didn't sense that there was a hollow space beneath her feet.
