Chapter 189 The Puppet
With the sound of footsteps and the slight metallic scraping of mechanical parts, a metal doll emerged from a doorway.
It has a human form with distinct facial features, but it looks like a mask covering its face. The pupils of its eyes shimmer with a faint light. Its entire body is made of a tightly fitted metal shell, with obvious riveted structures at the joints.
In the dim light, the appearance of such a slow-moving doll looked somewhat eerie.
But it shouldn't pose too much of a threat, at least it wasn't carrying any weapons and was moving too slowly.
Alphonse stared at the doll with curiosity.
I've never seen such an exquisitely crafted doll that can walk freely in the magic tower of the Alchemy Department at Violet Academy.
Sera, however, became wary and on guard.
The doll's eyes locked onto Alphonse, its knuckles clicking as it opened and closed, producing a stiff, monotonous voice.
"With the key, you are the heir to Godin's Tower. This is confirmed."
Its arm rose. "I am Oates, the butler here. The first floor is the living area, the second floor is the rest area, the third floor is the experimental area, and the fourth floor is the library and a place to store some of the old master's collections. Please forgive me, the magic in my core is almost exhausted, so I cannot give you a tour. I can only give a brief introduction before I go back into hibernation."
"Wait," Alphonse interrupted, "How are you going to replenish your magic?"
This is the first time I've ever seen a magical puppet with its own consciousness in this other world. It's so novel and even seems more reliable than modern robots.
Before the puppet could answer, the Demon Sword blurted out, "To replenish magic power, the puppet needs magic crystals, of course."
"Any attribute is fine?" Alphonse asked.
"Either is fine. I can convert the magic power within the magic crystal," the doll replied blankly.
Alphonse immediately took out a handful of magic crystals from his spatial ring.
The monsters I killed in that underground cave will come in handy now.
Of course, the large, high-quality magic crystals from the giant python and fire dragon were not taken out; they were just plundered from ordinary magical beasts.
I'm not sure what this doll butler is for, so I don't need to give it anything too fancy.
"Is this enough?"
"Resume normal services, that's enough." The doll's words were devoid of emotion, but they gave a definite answer.
He took the magic crystals from Alphonse and piled them on the table, picking one up in each hand. "Please wait a moment, I need to replenish my magic power."
Alphonse nodded.
I thought Oates was going to swallow the magic crystal or put it somewhere inside his body, but it turned out he was just holding it in his hand.
The creaking of the mechanical device continued, accompanied by a slight humming sound.
Oates quickly absorbed both magic crystals.
The magic crystal, stripped of its magic power, lost all its brilliance and turned grayish-white, looking much like an ordinary stone.
When Oates replaced the magic crystal, Alphonse discovered that there was a small diamond-shaped hole in the center of its palm, inlaid with a transparent crystal.
It looks quite strange.
"This mage named Godin is really generous. The outer shell of this puppet is made entirely of adamantite. It could make many weapons!" Sera exclaimed, examining Oates.
"Adamantite is good for conducting magic and has good resistance to various types of magic. Of course, we should use the best materials available," the Demon Sword scoffed dismissively. "Perhaps, this puppet also has combat capabilities?"
Oates did not answer this question; while absorbing magic, it seemed oblivious to the words of those around it.
While waiting, Alphonse asked Sera, "How many city-states are there in Fantalia?"
Sera glanced at Alphonse with some surprise, but she knew that he, as an outsider, was not familiar with the situation here. "The environment here is so harsh, and the population of each race is not large. There is only one underground city, the City of Peace. The other places cannot even be considered towns; they can only be considered settlements."
Indeed, the desert is extremely hot, and building cities underground is much more convenient.
But the moment Sera answered, Alphonse keenly sensed a slight fluctuation in her emotions.
The dark elf girl's answers were mostly untrue, and it was unclear what she was hiding.
But it doesn't matter anymore; Alphonse doesn't want to delve into this issue.
If you can find what you want in this Tower of Godin, you won't need to go to that City of Peace and Tranquility to experience its local customs and culture.
The right thing to do is to get out of this desert as soon as possible and return to Coldwind Territory.
To get back from Fantalia, you have to pass through the orc kingdom of Bozak.
It's not too troublesome; once you leave the no-fly zone around Fantalia, you can fly.
Although it cannot fly for long periods of time, it is still much faster than walking on land.
At this moment, the only problem is that the fire in my heart is exceptionally strong.
I didn't feel much while in the underground cave.
After all, Alphonse's XP is normal; he wouldn't be tempted by Warcraft.
But when faced with the hot and scantily clad Sera, he found it hard to resist.
It's not that she couldn't resist seeing a beautiful woman. Sera was indeed beautiful and had an exotic charm, but in terms of looks, she couldn't compare to Mia or Mahaya of the centaur tribe.
Mia and Mahaya both have snow-white skin, while Sera, this dark-skinned beauty, can only win in terms of alluring charm.
For some reason, the thought of Mahaya ignited a fire within Alphonse.
That's a centaur, its lower half is still that of a white horse.
But those rounded lines.
If Mahaya were here with him now, Alphonse would probably think that since life is short, he might as well give it a try.
Unconsciously, another more mature and voluptuous beauty came to mind: Queen Junoun.
It's better not to think about it; once you start thinking about it, your heart burns even hotter, and you feel restless.
There had never been any such signs before.
Now, he could only use the technique of clearing his mind to forcibly suppress it.
Having lived three lives, Alphonse's mindset can be described as extremely resilient and his willpower extraordinary.
After thinking it over and over, the only thing I can think of is the flesh and blood of the earth dragon causing the trouble.
Dragons are inherently... well, their flesh and blood can increase their true energy, so Alphonse didn't overlook some of their less-than-describable parts either; those parts were considered highly nourishing.
That's the only explanation.
Otherwise, how could such signs appear?
Suddenly a question came to mind: Could the fire dragon in the second cave also be a descendant of the earth dragon Fiya?
If this idea is true, then that guy really doesn't discriminate between raw and cold foods.
Lost in thought, Oates had already absorbed a small pile of magic crystals.
The light in his eyes was no longer dim, but much brighter, and his movements looked much more agile.
"Do you have combat abilities?" Alphonse asked curiously. (End of Chapter)
