Chapter 237 The Strength of the Soul
Alphonse could sense that the master Godin in front of him was not particularly powerful.
Having seized the body of a demon wolf, it now possesses a strong physique, but its magic seems to have been affected.
It's safe to say that its power at this point hasn't reached the master level yet.
According to the information from my spiritual senses, it is only slightly stronger than Theon.
But it's hard to guarantee that it has other trump cards up its sleeve, after all, it's a person who has lived for so long.
Master Godin suggested a private talk, and although Alphonse didn't understand his meaning, he didn't take it to heart.
Following Master Godin, we walked up the winding stairs to the top of the cave in the mountainside.
This cave doesn't even have a door, but the interior is decorated in a square and neat style.
It can no longer be described as a cave; calling it a stone chamber would be more appropriate.
There wasn't much furniture; besides a cabinet for storing daily necessities, there was only a neatly arranged metal worktable.
It looks quite multifunctional, with many foldable devices clearly visible.
The thick furs laid on the ground seemed to be the place where Master Godin rested.
It has transformed into a giant wolf and no longer needs a bed; it can simply lie down anywhere.
But there were other people in the stone chamber.
It was a young girl dressed in a black and white servant's dress, kneeling quietly.
The hair was a mix of black and white, slightly curly, and short to ear length, but it didn't look like human hair.
Its silvery metallic face already possessed features resembling those of an elf, except that fine gaps could still be seen between its mouth and jawline.
Undoubtedly, this is a demonic puppet.
The craftsmanship is even more advanced than that of Oates the Puppet Master.
At the very least, the metal plates are joined more seamlessly, and the body lines are softer.
It seems that this puppet is more deserving of the title of Godin's masterpiece than Oates.
Alphonse noticed a gap at the front of the puppet girl's arm joints, suggesting that they could be separated.
This made Alphonse think strangely: Did Master Godin also like moves like "Diamond Fist"?
Upon seeing someone arrive, the magical girl "Teng" stood up abruptly, bowed slightly, and asked, "Master, shall we prepare tea and refreshments for our guest?"
"Go and prepare." Master Godin raised his paw and waved.
The magical girl immediately moved into the inner room.
"This is a puppet I made later, named Maria." Master Godin squatted down on the fur, grinned, revealing a set of white fangs, as if he were smiling.
"It looks like the craftsmanship is even better than Oates's," Alphonse praised.
"No, Oates is still better. It is the most outstanding work of my life!" Master Godin said. "You haven't fully explored its full potential yet, have you? It's not just a magic puppet that can take care of people's daily lives. It took me decades to collect countless precious materials and made it through many modifications. Apart from light and space magic, it can cast most types of magic. As long as you infuse it with enough magic power, it can also release forbidden spells comparable to a first-level archmage. Its subtle control over magic surpasses that of ordinary archmages."
Alphonse was taken aback. Was Oates really that strong?
However, replenishing it with enough magic power is not an easy task.
Master Godin waved his claws again, and a chair made of rock rose from the floor of the stone chamber.
It was obviously made on the spot, and it wasn't very finely carved. It was just a rough prototype, and the legs were unusually short.
Alphonse sat down at the same level as the squatting Master Godin, without appearing superior.
"I haven't seen my assistant Oates for centuries. May I see him?" Master Godin asked.
"Okay." Alphonse took out the puppet butler Oates from his spatial ring and activated him.
As soon as Oates woke up, his chip-like eyes stared fixedly at Master Godin. After a long while, he spoke in a stiff voice, "Identity confirmed, good day, old master."
There was no joy in the reunion; Oates did not possess that kind of emotion.
If Master Godin wants Oates back, Alphonse doesn't care. After all, Oates was created by him, and he needs his help to save Sharibel and the others.
"Long time no see, Oates," Master Godin said with particular emotion.
"Do you need to take Oates back?" Alphonse asked.
"No need, I already have Maria." Master Godin shook his huge wolf head. "Although she is not as good as Oz, she has the ability to rival a master-level warrior. Her daily magic consumption is also lower than Oz's. I've figured it out. A magic puppet doesn't need to be perfect, just practical."
After saying that, he grinned at Alphonse, "If I'm not mistaken, you should have obtained the key I left in the magic tower in Vantalia and got the items there, right?"
“Only Oates, before me, there was another group that came to your magic tower, and they took all the equipment, items, and spellbooks,” Alphonse replied. “However, they all perished in the Baskerville Labyrinth, where I obtained the key.”
"Oh." Master Godin nodded slightly. "My magic notebook, Lord Alphonse, you didn't obtain it?"
"No," Alphonse shook his head. "It's probably been destroyed over the long years."
Master Godin didn't feel sorry. "Spatial magic isn't easy to learn. It's a pity you don't have the talent for it. It's too difficult to find an apprentice who can inherit my spatial magic."
"Master, did you observe this just now?" Alphonse remembered very clearly that when Master Godin came out to greet him, circles of lines appeared in his emerald green triangular eyes.
If we didn't know that there wouldn't be any Uchiha clan in this other world, we would have thought it had the Rinnegan.
Master Godin nodded again. "Yes, I just checked with my Soul Eye. Please don't mind that."
"It's alright," Alphonse smiled.
Master Godin let out a long sigh. "What I saw shocked me greatly, Lord Alphonse. The power you possess is neither battle aura, nor magic, nor witchcraft. It is a strange power I have never seen before. What surprises me even more is your soul."
Alphonse was immediately taken aback. Since arriving in this strange world, no one had ever noticed the abnormality in his soul.
Could it be that Master Godin has realized that he is not "Alphonse"?
Master Godin continued, "The strength of your soul surpasses that of everyone I've ever seen, even exceeding that of legendary-level experts. I saw boundless darkness; if I hadn't stopped probing in time, my mind would have been completely trapped and lost within it." (End of Chapter)
