Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!
Chapter 134 Riding the Bone Bird
In the Bone-Eroding Starfield, the Bone Spire's defensive line is extremely far forward, and it faces the greatest pressure from the demon legion.
Naglas took full advantage of the Bone Spire Academy to build a formidable defensive line known as the "Corridor of the Dead."
After several Stigmata Wizards from the Bone Spire Academy destroyed a portion of the Abyss Plane, they transformed the fragments of the Abyss Plane they cut into a massive undead production base.
On the battlefield, the corpses of fallen demons, undead, soldiers, and even the remains of wizards are quickly dragged into the corridor.
Through the Necromancer's War Workshop, they can be transformed into new skeleton warriors, ghouls, or even stitched monsters within hours and re-entered into the battlefield.
Their core tactic is to fight to sustain themselves, growing stronger with each battle; this is the essence of the undead faction.
So Ollie was quite curious about Victor, who had inherited Negras's legacy, wondering if he would become the second Negras.
...
After a long day of driving, they finally arrived at a relatively large settlement on the edge of the wasteland – "Gray Rock Outpost".
This place is more like a rough supply point, with a few stone houses. Because the environment is decent, there are slightly more apprentices coming and going than in the swamp.
Lynn went straight to the town's "public transport point," which was just a simple platform, and asked the stationed deacon apprentice about "flights."
"The bone birds returning to the academy? The last group just left not long ago, the next group... we'll have to wait four days." The apprentice deacon flipped through the record bone plate.
These bone birds are the most commonly used "public transport" at the Bone Spire Academy.
They fly along fixed "routes," passing by outposts and gathering places, and taking away apprentices who want to board.
Four days!
Lynn's heart sank.
Traveling with this dangerous high-ranking demon for four days is far too unpredictable.
If it senses anything amiss, our lives might be in danger.
With that thought in mind, Lynn decided not to wait any longer and turned to leave.
"Lynn, why don't we wait a couple more days? Riding the bone bird is both convenient and effortless, and much safer than us acting alone."
Ollie offered his kind advice.
"My task has a time limit, and I can't afford to delay it."
Without looking back, Lynn mounted Megatron again and headed towards the next settlement on the map—"Bone Pass".
Ollie smiled silently and urged the bone horse to follow easily once again.
He seems to have become attached to Lynn...
There were no major setbacks along the way. Since meeting Ollie, Lynn noticed that the density of monsters he encountered had decreased significantly.
I wonder if this guy is pulling the strings behind the scenes.
After another long journey, as they approached the Bone Pass, luck finally smiled upon Lynn.
From afar, he saw a huge creature resting on the open ground outside the pass.
It was a giant bone bird, comparable in size to a small castle, with silvery-white bones that gleamed with a metallic sheen and exuded the pressure of a level 4 (calamity-level) creature.
This is the "Boundary Vulture," a public transport vehicle operated by the Academy that travels between the main peripheral gathering areas and the Academy.
At this moment, it seems to have just finished docking and picking up passengers, and is preparing to set sail.
Lynn was overjoyed and hurriedly sped off.
Beside the bone bird, a third-class apprentice dressed in the academy's deacon robes was registering.
He was not the owner of the bone bird, but rather its "pilot," earning resources by piloting it.
After all, a qualified wizard can't be here picking up and dropping off apprentices every day.
Of course, most of the resources he earns need to be handed over to the college, and he can only earn a meager living.
Lynn stepped forward, showed his nameplate, and paid the fee of two magic stones.
Riding this thing isn't cheap. An average apprentice only gets a few dozen contribution points for a simple, mandatory quest, which adds up to just a few magic stones.
Riding the Bone Bird back and forth takes up most of the profits, plus the cost of purchasing supplies...
Therefore, apprentices usually try their best to earn extra money while doing tasks, such as capturing undead, collecting materials, and taking on tasks in the same area, otherwise they would starve to death.
"Let's go up. We'll take off in a quarter hour."
The deacon wizard verified that everything was correct and pointed to the dozens of saddles that had already been fixed to the back of the fingerbone bird.
Lynn climbed the bone ladder hanging from the side of the bone bird and had just breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Ollie also leisurely walking forward.
It imitated Lynn, handing over the nameplate and then paying the magic stones.
The deacon wizard glanced at the nameplate, then gave it a cursory look. Perhaps the demon's disguise was too clever, for the deacon did not notice anything amiss and nodded.
The two climbed onto the bone bird's broad back one after the other and found adjacent seats to sit down.
The bone bird's skeleton saddle was cold and hard. Seven or eight apprentices were already sitting around it, all of them looking tired and silent.
Not long after, the deacon wizard below let out a low shout.
The enormous bone bird slowly stood up, spreading its bone wings, which were enough to cover a small patch of sky, and its soul fire suddenly blazed fiercely!
boom!
A powerful gust of air whipped up dust as the level 4 undead bone bird, carrying its passengers, soared into the sky, flying steadily and swiftly towards the Bone Spire Academy.
Sitting on the bone bird flying at high speed, a strong wind rushes towards you.
Lynn glanced sideways at Ollie, who was also "staring" in the direction of the academy.
The latter seemed to sense his gaze, turned her head, and gave him the same smile as before.
Lynn nodded in response, then turned back, feeling no relief, but rather even more heavy-hearted.
Hopefully, the academy will let him off the hook when he gets there.
Or... let the academy just pin him down...
Hmm... If I go with him, will the academy mistake me for an accomplice and take me down together?
...
A day later, the enormous bone bird "Boundary Vulture" landed smoothly on the dedicated landing pad outside the Bone Spire.
Passengers, their hair disheveled by the strong wind, disembarked one by one and merged into the sparse crowd outside the academy.
Lynn strode toward the academy gate, and Ollie followed.
Judging from the other party's calm demeanor, he seemed to be just an ordinary apprentice returning from completing a mission.
Even when Lynn turned around, she gave him a questioning smile, as if to say, "Where do we go next?"
Seriously? Is this guy that confident? You probably don't know about the academy's strict security checks, do you?
Soon, the academy's security checkpoint archway, made of countless skulls and flickering with soul fire, came into view.
Lynn walked in calmly, and the cold mental scanning field enveloped his entire body once again.
This time, the mental energy lingered on the small stone on Lynn's shoulder for a moment, but found nothing wrong. After examining the skull, it fell silent again.
Lynn strode through the passage without waiting for Ollie.
I wonder if this guy will suddenly go berserk and kill everyone on the scene if his identity is exposed.
Let's keep our distance, lest we get splattered with blood...
