Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!
Chapter 427 Field 1
Greystone City is located in a hilly area in the northern part of the Wizarding World. The city walls are not high, and the gray-white stone walls are covered with withered vines.
The houses in the city are low and densely packed, the streets are narrow and winding, and the roads are paved with bluestone slabs that have been worn smooth and shiny by the years.
There are no dark towers of wizarding academies here, no gray-black skies of the Evernight Graveyard, only ordinary cooking smoke and ordinary human voices.
This place is too remote and ordinary. Although it is a town in the wizarding world, it is rare to see wizarding apprentices or even formal wizards.
Field and his wife Sarah settled in this small town fourteen years ago.
Sarah was also an apprentice at the Bone Spire. She entered the academy at the age of ten after her talent was detected, and stayed at the Bone Spire Academy for nearly ten years.
Over the past decade, she has witnessed enough of the deceit and treachery, the apprentices betraying each other for contribution points, the formal wizards fighting openly and secretly for resources, and the mentors using their apprentices as expendable resources for their research projects.
She was of low talent, came from an ordinary family, had no powerful backers, and no connections, so she could only live cautiously in the middle.
She didn't like it there, but she had no other choice.
Leaving the academy, she was just a low-ranking apprentice with no background, no resources, and no power, unable to survive in the wizarding world.
Besides... the academy wouldn't let a valuable "consumable" leave without a reason.
Later, she met Field.
Field had just come out of Gregor's school at that time; he was young, sweet-talking, and shameless.
He was dressed in a flashy wizard's robe and struck up a conversation with Sarah at a stall in Ghost Market, complimenting her beautiful hair.
Sarah was extremely wary at the time, so she ignored him.
He came again the next day, bringing a bouquet of night-blooming cereus he had bought at Ghost Market.
Sarah still ignored him. He came again on the third day, this time bringing a piece of ghost crystal of good quality.
Sarah looked at the crystal in his hand and asked him what he wanted.
Field laughed and said he just wanted to get to know her.
Sarah accepted the crystal, but didn't give Field a friendly look.
Field didn't mind and continued to deliver things and ask her out.
He took her to the Ghost Market to browse the stalls, buy her all sorts of trinkets, and treat her to the best grilled meat in the market.
He took her to the outer perimeter of the Eternal Night Cemetery to see the floating ghosts, pointing at them and saying that he would collect them all into the spirit world later.
Sarah gradually got used to him being around.
She had been alone in the academy for too long. No one talked to her, no one ate with her, and no one cared whether her cultivation went smoothly that day.
Field filled that void and brought color to her life.
She knew Field treated other women the same way.
She had seen Field chatting and laughing with a witch in a red robe in the corridor, and she had also seen Field exchanging glances with another female stall owner at the Ghost Market.
She asked Field, and Field said they were just ordinary friends.
Sarah didn't press the matter; she knew she wasn't Field's only one, but she had no other choice.
She needed someone to rely on, and Field was willing to provide that.
After being together for over two years, Sarah discovered she was pregnant.
She found Field and told him about it.
Field's expression changed, and he said now was not the time, and that she should handle it.
Sarah looked into his eyes and said nothing.
Her eyes were calm, but Field saw in them a desperate determination.
He knew that if he dared to abandon her, she would solve the problem in her own way.
He didn't know what that method was, but he didn't dare to gamble.
Later, Field temporarily settled Sarah in the safe Ghost Market.
But this is not a long-term solution. Newborns are too fragile, and if they are born in the Eternal Night Graveyard, they will surely die.
With nowhere else to turn, Field sought out Gregor, pleading with his tutor to help them escape the college.
Gregor was furious at his son's lack of ambition; he clearly had talent, yet he couldn't see it coming.
I scolded him for a long time, until my voice was hoarse.
After he finished scolding her, he helped Field think of a solution.
Each apprentice is the "private property" of the academy and their mentor, and it is difficult to leave the academy under normal circumstances unless they defect.
Sarah is easy to arrange, after all, she has the reason of pregnancy, and it only takes a little effort to make things happen.
Sarah is a first-ring wizard apprentice. To leave the academy, she needs a large amount of contribution points and approval from the academy's higher-ups.
Gregor used his contribution points to help Sarah make up the shortfall, and then asked Cersei to intercede on her behalf. In the end, the college approved Sarah's application to leave the college.
But Field failed; his talent was better than Sarah's, and the academy was unwilling to let him leave.
Field could only apply for an outing mission, and took Sarah away from the Evernight Graveyard to Graystone City.
The residents of Graystone City are mostly ordinary people. Occasionally, wizard apprentices pass by, but they rarely stop.
The city lord's mansion has two third-class apprentices who are responsible for maintaining the city's security and teleportation array.
Field and Sarah bought a small house here. It wasn't big, with three main rooms, two side rooms, and an old locust tree in the yard.
They planned to live an ordinary life under assumed names.
Field had to return to the college every now and then to perform mandatory tasks.
It can take anywhere from one or two weeks to several months.
Sarah was home alone while he was away.
She rarely goes out, and when she does, it's only to the market to buy groceries, and then she comes back immediately.
She thought she was low-key enough to avoid attracting attention.
But her beautiful appearance ultimately brought her trouble.
During one of Field's missions, two thugs sneaked into the yard under cover of darkness.
They wore tattered leather armor, had short knives at their waists, and reeked of alcohol.
They pushed open the door and saw Sarah sitting in the living room, seemingly unsurprised by their entry.
Although the two were surprised by Sarah's composure, they did not think that this unarmed woman posed any threat.
The bald man grinned and said that the woman was really pretty, while the scarred man rubbed his hands and said that he was lucky today and could have a good meal.
Sarah looked at them, knowing they meant no harm, and said nothing more.
No matter what, he was still a second-class apprentice. Although he had left the academy, he had not lost any of his skills.
Her hand emerged from her sleeve, revealing a skeletal ring that glowed with a ghostly blue light.
The light fell to the ground and transformed into two skeletons.
The skull's eye sockets burned with eerie green flames, and it held a rusty iron sword in its hand.
wizard!
The bald man's mouth opened, and the scarred man's three legs went limp.
The two turned to run, but the skeleton had already pounced on them.
The iron sword pierced the bald man's back and the scarred man's waist.
The two fell to the ground, blood gushing from their wounds, staining the bluestone slabs red.
The two skeletons absorbed the essence of flesh and blood from the corpse, then dragged the dried corpse outside the door, threw it by the roadside, and returned to the courtyard to guard it.
This can be considered a warning.
The city guards discovered the body the next morning.
The two mummified corpses were clearly not dead from natural causes. They recognized that it was the work of a sorcerer and dared not touch them, so they reported it to the city guard commander.
The commander was a fat man in his forties, wearing iron-gray armor and with a long sword at his waist.
He led the sheriff to Sarah's house and saw Sarah sitting in the living room with two skeletons standing behind her.
The two immediately realized that this beautiful woman was a proper wizard apprentice!
The commander invited Sarah to the city lord's mansion, saying that the city lord had extended an invitation, and Sarah agreed.
She followed the commander and the sheriff out of the courtyard, with two skeletons behind them.
Pedestrians on the street avoided the two skeletons when they saw them.
Some people hid behind the door, while others looked out the window, pointing at Sarah with fear in their eyes.
Sarah didn't look at them, and walked behind the commander with her head down.
The city lord was an elderly man in his fifties, wearing a dark blue robe with a bronze badge pinned to his chest.
A third-class apprentice at the Molten Core Academy, majoring in fire magic.
He invited Sarah to sit down and had a servant serve tea, his attitude was fairly polite.
When the city lord learned that Sarah was the husband of a second-class apprentice and a third-class apprentice at the Bone Spire, his expression changed, and his attitude became even more polite.
Don't let his status as a third-class apprentice fool you; the Bone Spire is one of the most elite wizarding factions.
The third-class apprentice of the Bone Spire was many times better than him, a mere third-class apprentice.
