Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!

Chapter 655 The Swift Wolf with Discerning Eyes

When Lynn left Graystone City, it was already dark.

Wrapped in an old cloak, he used flying magic to sneak out of the city and flew north along the official road.

The wind blew in from the low hills, carrying a hint of earthy smell from outside Graystone City.

Whitestone City is quite a distance from Graystone City; it would take two days to travel the entire distance by air.

However, flying consumes a lot of magical power. Since one's magical power is limited, without using magic stones to replenish it, one can only fly for half a day.

Moreover, there are unknown dangers on the road, so we need to be vigilant at all times and not waste our magical power carelessly.

Lynn then adopted the method that would save the most magical energy and speed up the journey.

He walked very fast, his feet barely touching the ground, like a shadow being pushed by the wind.

Thirty miles after leaving Graystone City, the official road ended, leaving only a dirt road worn by people.

Both sides were overgrown with weeds and scattered rocks, and the moon was covered by clouds, making it so dark that the road was almost invisible.

Lynn didn't stop.

He has the mental ability to find his way, and he can walk with his eyes closed.

As night fell, a wind rose in the wilderness.

The wind carried a foul, fishy smell, like wet fur and rotting flesh mixed together, and the howls of wolves echoed all around.

Lynn paused, his mental energy spreading out in all directions like a net.

"Sure enough, these bastards really know how to give me trouble," he muttered.

A dozen pairs of bright green eyes emerged from behind the grass and rocks.

This is a pack of wolves, quite numerous, led by an alpha wolf that is a full size larger than the others, its fur shimmering a pale blue under the moonlight.

The Gale Wolf, and it's even reached the level of a magical beast!

This guy is just a low-level magical beast, with strength roughly between a second-class and a third-class apprentice.

But if it really comes down to a life-or-death struggle, with its innate abilities and the help of the pack, the Gale Wolf might be able to surround and kill the third-class apprentice.

But dealing with a formal wizard...

It can only be said that it was unlucky.

The wolf pack scattered and flanked the wolf pack from both sides.

The low growls rose and fell, like the whetstones making a "whoosh" sound in the dark.

When Lynn saw the lead swift wolf, he saw it as if it were a "shared bicycle" and decided not to leave immediately.

He didn't even lift his cloak, only sticking his right hand out from under his robe.

Several gray-white soul threads lit up at her fingertips, gently twisting like living things.

The first wolf pounced, a gray shadow darting out from the left, its mouth snapping at Lynn's throat.

Lynn shifted his body slightly, and Wolf Fang grazed his shoulder.

He flicked his finger at the wolf's head, and the wolf didn't even howl. The green light in its eyes instantly went out, and its soul appeared in Lynn's hand, where he crushed it.

The second and third beasts pounced at the same time.

Lynn stopped dodging and lashed out his soul threads like a whip.

Each one pierced precisely into the wolf's head, shredding its soul.

The wolves fell in droves, their limbs twitching a few times before they fell silent.

Within moments, all of the dozen or so wolves lay down, without a single wound on their bodies.

Only the Gale Wolf remained, standing twenty paces away.

It was clearly smarter than an ordinary wolf. Sensing danger, it slowly retreated on its hind legs, letting out a low growl, and turned to run away.

Lynn wasn't about to let such a good mount slip by, and pointed at it.

A grayish-white thread of soul shot out and entered between the eyes of the Gale Wolf.

The alpha wolf froze, shaking its head desperately, but the silk thread seemed to have taken root, penetrating deeper and deeper, sprouting in the depths of its soul.

Not long after, the alpha wolf's forelegs buckled, its body swayed twice, and it finally stood up.

The fierce glint in its eyes slowly faded, turning into an empty gray-white, as if it had lost its self-awareness.

Lynn walked over.

The alpha wolf didn't move, only letting out a very low growl from its throat, as if waiting for his command.

"Good dog, good dog, you've come at just the right time. The road ahead depends on you." Lynn patted the wolf's neck.

He flipped over and sat on the back of the Swift Wolf.

The alpha wolf pushed off with its hind legs and darted away like a bluish-gray shadow, the wind whistling past its ears, almost as fast as it flew.

This journey lasted three days and three nights.

The swift wolf ran tirelessly, occasionally stopping by the stream to drink a few mouthfuls of water.

Lynn only hunted a few wild rabbits along the way, roasted them, and shared them with the Gale Wolf. The rest of the time, he sat on the wolf's back, thinking about what to buy for Lin Chen to increase his chances of promotion.

By the early hours of the next day, just as dawn was breaking, Lynn could already see the main city of Whitestone.

That city was more than ten times larger than Graystone City.

The city walls are towering, built entirely of gray-white boulders, and every few dozen steps on the top of the walls there is a magical lamp, like a row of inextinguishable eyes.

Caravans and pedestrians had already lined up outside the city gates, waiting to enter the city.

Lynn stopped three miles outside the city.

He dismounted from the wolf's back and patted the alpha wolf's head: "Go hide in the woods over there, don't hurt anyone, and wait for me to come back."

The Swiftwind Wolf let out a low growl, turned, and disappeared into the woods beside the official road.

In no time, the bluish-gray figure completely disappeared into the bushes.

Lynn walked over and joined the queue to enter the city.

He wasn't in a hurry. There were still two days until the wizarding gathering, and going in too early would just mean waiting around.

When it was Lynn's turn, a city guard stopped him: "Who are you? Where's your travel permit?"

Lynn took out a gray iron plaque from under his cloak, and handed it over along with two copper coins.

The plaque was proof of his status as a first-ring wizard, and it bore the emblem of the Greyfeather family.

"This is my identification. The entry fee is also here," Lynn said.

The city garrison commander took the nameplate, glanced at it, and his expression immediately changed.

He took a step back, bent down, and held the plaque and copper coin above his head, his voice eight octaves softer than before: "Please come in, sir. I have been very rude!"

Lynn nodded and put the nameplate back.

A few copper coins landed on the wooden box beside the city garrison, making a crisp sound.

The city guard didn't dare to move, keeping his head down and staring at his toes.

Lynn didn't stand on ceremony and stepped into the city.

After he had walked away, a new recruit came over and whispered:

"Boss, who is this person? He looks unfamiliar. Why are you being so respectful?"

The city garrison commander straightened up and glared at the new recruit: "Didn't you see that nameplate? That lord is a formal wizard!"

The recruit's face paled: "The legendary official wizard?"

"Otherwise what?" the city guard lowered his voice. "If I weren't a formal wizard, would I be this scared?"

The new recruit turned his head to look into the city gate, but Lynn's figure had already blended into the crowd.

He swallowed hard and whispered, "This is the first time in my life I've ever seen a real wizard."

"Look at you, so useless," an old soldier couldn't help but interject.

"Although our White Stone City is large, we still have a few resident, officially recognized wizards."

"Besides the city lord and those few others, there are also several wizards who have come from other places. It's quite lively now."

"But a formally appointed wizard like him is practically a local tyrant in those small towns outside the city!"

The new recruits nodded repeatedly, their eyes filled with reverence.

He used to think that formal wizards and people like him were from two different worlds, but now it seems that there isn't much difference.

However, the recruits still felt a sense of longing when they thought of the wizards' mysterious powers.
