Eternal Beast Taming Family

Chapter 135 The Book Pavilion

The stall owner appeared to be a shrewd middle-aged man. He glanced at Jiang Nian's refined attire, smiled, and spoke...

"This is a book left over from ancient times. The writing symbols on it may record a secret text containing special mysteries. This is a family heirloom."

"Alas, if I weren't such a down-on-my-luck spendthrift, I wouldn't be putting these ancient books up for sale."

They went on and on about the origins of these ancient books, but never mentioned their price.

Jiang Nian ran her fingers over the words on the book, and a thin layer of crystalline flakes flaked off. The Chu family often used shavings made from source spirit stones to feed the "Colorful Cloud Jellyfish" behind the mountain.

Therefore, Jiang Nian was very familiar with the texture of the fragments in her hand, and the dark golden powder must be from another special mineral powder mixed in by the boss.

The handwriting created by these two spiritual entities is what allows this book, though piled among a junk, to emit a noticeable energy fluctuation that attracts passersby.

Jiang Nian tossed the book back into the clutter on the stall and said softly, "It's so precious, isn't it priceless? Then it's really not easy for me to buy it."

Seeing that Jiang Nian had given up on buying the books, and having finally encountered a woman who seemed to have little knowledge of the world, the stall owner's eyes flashed with urgency. He picked up the books that had been tossed onto his stall.

With a forced smile, he said, "Five hundred Source Stones, just five hundred Source Stones, and I'll hand over this family heirloom book to you? Judging from your wealthy attire, there must be someone in your family who can decipher this book."

"Five hundred Source Stones? You've been praising this book to the skies, it must be the most expensive item on this stall, right?" Chu Shengyuan asked, staring with innocent eyes as he stood in front of the stall.

The vendor looked at Chu Shengyuan, unsure how to respond for a moment.

Chu Shenghan, standing beside Jiang Nian, looked at the stall with a mixture of disdain and doubt. "Mother, if the other items are more expensive than this booklet, wouldn't they all be his family heirlooms?"

"What kind of family could have so many treasures passed down through generations? He must be a fraud."

After saying that, he tried to pull Jiang Nian's arm to leave the stall.

Seeing that the sale he had worked so hard to close was about to fall through, the vendor said anxiously, "Madam, Madam, please wait! This booklet is of course the most expensive one on my stall. I didn't expect you to have such discerning eyes that you could pick it out at a glance."

"Really?" Chu Shenghan pointed to a stone carving shaped like a phoenix on the stall. "How much is this stone carving?"

"Three hundred Source Stones."

"Wow, this is almost the same price as your family heirloom."

A hint of anxiety crossed the vendor's face. Well, he had overcharged.

Chu Shengyuan pointed to the broken sword on the other side and asked, "Where is this broken sword?"

The vendor licked his lips and tentatively asked, "One...one hundred Source Stones?"

Chu Shengyuan looked disgusted, then he and Chu Shenghan looked at Xu Yinyue together, signaling her with their eyes to choose one.

Xu Yinyue was quick-witted and immediately understood what the two meant. So she casually pointed to the black lotus and asked, "How much is this?"

The vendor said somewhat dejectedly, "Fifty Source Stones."

"Okay." Jiang Nian took out a brocade bag and tossed it to the vendor in front of her. "Five hundred and fifty Origin Stones. I'll take this book and that black lotus."

The vendor opened the brocade bag somewhat bewildered and glanced at the amount of Source Stones inside. Before he could react, Jiang Nian had already taken the two items she wanted and disappeared into the crowd with the three children.

Jiang Nian led the three of them around the first floor for a while, and finally went to the book pavilion where Chu Jingyu bought the map of the Illusionary Mist Spirit Realm.

This was also Jiang Nian's main purpose in coming to the Treasure Pavilion: to purchase relevant books to enrich her family's library.

Upon arriving at the library, the young man sitting behind the desk merely glanced at the four people who entered, without greeting them, and continued writing.

Jiang Nian glanced around the bookstore. It was empty and there weren't many people coming and going. It could be said to be the most deserted shop in the Treasure Pavilion.

That's normal, actually. These books are generally expensive, and people outside of aristocratic families are unwilling to buy them. Moreover, most aristocratic families have inherited their wealth for many years, so they have little demand for books. Therefore, there are very few people in this library.

Jiang Nian glanced at the three children and nodded to them.

Chu Shenghan and the other two nimbly dispersed in three different directions, each of them stuffing any unfamiliar book titles into their arms.

Once his arms were full, he piled them on the empty table in the middle, then returned to the bookshelf by the wall and repeated the previous actions.

The young man, who was leaning over the table, saw their movement, looked up, and his brush trembled in surprise.

He put down his calligraphy brush, stood up, and strode to the table piled high with books. He stopped Chu Shengyuan, who was still stacking books on top of the pile, with both hands. "Hey, hey, what are you doing?"

Chu Shengyuan looked at him with some confusion. "Buying books? Isn't this a bookstore?"

As he spoke, Chu Shengyuan broke free from his arm and piled the stack of books in his arms onto another empty table.

The young man looked around and spotted Jiang Nian, who was also moving books. She seemed to be in charge.

He hurried over, pointing excitedly at the pile of books, his face somewhat bitter. "Madam, are you really here to buy books?"

Jiang Nian placed the book in her arms, looked at the young man, and nodded in response:

"Yes, but we just bought more at once, don't be surprised."

The young man lightly touched his chest, forcing a smile. "Madam, if we buy so much at once, we won't be able to see it all at home. How about we just keep what we have?"

It seems this young man is not willing to sell so many books at once.

Jiang Nian glanced at her sideways, "You run a bookstore, why are you worried about selling too many books?"

Hearing Jiang Nian's question, the young man felt bitter. He ran a bookstore, but all these books were copied by him one by one. If there were no books, could his bookstore still be open?

Most importantly, his source beast "Bookworm" will have no food. If the library is mostly empty, given the nature of his "Bookworm," it will definitely cause a huge uproar.

"Alright, alright, these are the books we have now. How about I give you a 10% discount, Madam?"

Jiang Nian's eyes darted around. She hadn't expected such a surprise today, and the young man really looked like he was about to cry.

She waved to the children who were still busy working at their bookshelves, "Children, stop for a moment."
