Eternal Beast Taming Family

Chapter 143 Jiang Yan

Colorful pollen was sprayed into the wound, and granulation tissue spread rapidly within it. The wound on the side of the "Snow Shadow Cat" was visibly repairing.

Just a few minutes later, the wound that was once deep enough to expose the bone was reduced to a pink scar.

Snow Shadow Cat's spirits had recovered somewhat. It glanced gratefully at Flower Butterfly Spirit and meowed softly a few times.

Chu Shengfan mentally estimated the prices in this prefecture city before saying, "One hundred Source Stones for the consultation."

He didn't know if the price was too high or too low, but a junior apprentice directing the queue nearby overheard his offer and exclaimed in surprise.

"Doctor Chu is indeed kind-hearted."

Hearing about his low point, Chu Shengfan silently regretted quoting too low a price.

He reminded himself that this was the prefectural city, not Heyu Town, and prices were much higher. However, since he had already stated the price, it was indeed difficult to change it now.

The young man searched his body thoroughly, finally offering a few scattered Origin Stones to Chu Shengfan. He lowered his head, not daring to look at Chu Shengfan's face, and said somewhat reservedly:

"I only have these Source Stones on me right now. I can write an IOU and give me some time. I will definitely pay back the rest of the debt."

Chu Shengfan brought his index and middle fingers together and tapped them lightly twice on the side of his neck. Even in the biggest places, there will be poor people who can't afford to eat.

"No need for an IOU, just leave the collateral, like this."

When Chu Shengfan spoke of "it", he pointed to "Snow Shadow Cat" lying on the examination table.

The boy paused for a moment, his expression shifting several times, before finally nodding with difficulty.

"Doctor, my name is Zhou Minghuai. I will definitely raise enough money to pay off the medical expenses as soon as possible. Please take care of Xiaomingshun."

Then he leaned down and whispered something in "Snow Shadow Cat's" ear, and then left the clinic, looking back every few steps.

Chu Shengfan lifted "Snow Shadow Cat" by the neck with one hand and placed it on the side of his examination table before moving on to the next patient.

As the day passed, Chu Shengfan stretched and roughly estimated the day's medical records.

Excluding Cheng Yu at the beginning, a total of thirteen patients were treated, some with serious injuries and some with minor ones, so the fees varied, totaling three thousand source stones.

After settling the bill, Chu Shengfan looked at "Snow Shadow Cat," who had been sitting obediently in the corner of the consultation table, with some surprise.

He originally thought the cat would sneak away while he was busy, but it turned out to be quite well-behaved.

Although its escape attempt was unlikely to succeed under Chu Shengfan's watchful eye, the fact that it hadn't even tried made Chu Shengfan's opinion of the cat and its owner much better.

Holding the kitten in his arms, Chu Shengfan said goodbye to Cheng Xun and left the pharmacy.

……

Qixia Mountain, early morning.

The boy, dressed in coarse linen clothes, placed a large bunch of purple irises at the entrance of the Chu family mansion as before. He glanced silently at the tightly closed gate of the Chu family, then turned to leave down the mountain.

He had done this many times before, but today seemed different. Just as he turned around, the Chu family's gate opened from the inside.

A servant with an unusual aura stepped forward and quickly walked around to the front of the boy in black.

"Young master, please wait a moment. My young mistress invites you in."

The black-clad youth's expression froze. He was tall and strong, but his face still held a hint of youthfulness.

"Thank you for your kindness, Madam. I had no intention of disturbing you, so I will be leaving now."

As he spoke, he was about to walk around the servant in front of him and leave along the mountain path.

But as he passed by the servant, the servant blocked his way with his arm across.

The servant smiled gently. "Young master, I'm truly sorry, but my young mistress has given a strict order to bring you back for a meeting. If you don't go, I can only apologize."

The black-clad youth's senses were incredibly sharp. The extraordinary oppressive force emanating from the servant in front of him made him realize that even though he was a head taller than the other man, he still couldn't defeat him by force. Besides, this was his aunt's husband's home, and it wouldn't look good for him to make a move here.

He silently turned around, facing the direction of the Chu family's gate, silently signaling that he wanted to lead the way.

……

At the Chu family residence, the Chu family members had just finished breakfast together.

Just as Jiang Nian was about to take her three children to the Tibetan Academy, Granny Liu led a maidservant to her with a bunch of purple irises.

A complex emotion flashed in Jiang Nian's eyes. She looked down at the three children and said, "You go to the library to copy books first. I'll be there shortly."

Chu Shengyuan wanted to ask something, but Chu Shenghan covered his mouth, grabbed his arm, and pulled him forward.

"Mother, we'll be going now." Completely ignoring Chu Shengyuan's struggles.

After the three children left, Granny Liu stepped forward to report, "Young Madam, the person is currently in the front hall. Should we inform the young master and have him accompany you to see him?"

Granny Liu felt that husband and wife were one, and although it was nothing for Jiang Nian to see her family, it had been many years since they had been in contact, so it was better to know.

Jiang Nian was silent for a moment, then said, "Just tell him, there's no need for him to make any more trips."

"Yes." Granny Liu turned and left in another direction. After standing there for a moment, Jiang Nian led two maids to the front hall.

In the front hall, the tall, somewhat reserved young man in black, Jiang Yan, sat on a chair on the side of the hall. On the square table next to him, tea and some exquisite pastries had already been laid out.

However, he clearly had no intention of enjoying the meal. His gaze kept drifting towards the outside of the front hall, and he kept wondering how this aunt he had never met would treat him.

Before long, with a series of light footsteps, Jiang Nian led two maids into the front hall. Jiang Nian sat down in the main seat without looking to the side, and then turned her gaze to Jiang Yan.

The two 'aunt and niece' who had never met before silently sized each other up for a moment.

Jiang Nian sighed inwardly, "They look so alike, so much like my brother." She regretted not seeing her brother when she went back last time; she wished she could have stayed longer.

"What's your name?" Jiang Nian asked, trying to keep her tone calm.

"Jiang Yan, the 'Yan' in 'Junyan' (俊彦)," Jiang Yan replied in a deep voice, not uttering a single unnecessary word.

How old are you now?

"I'm seventeen this year."

Jiang Nian silently estimated that she was born about a year after she left home.

What do you do at home these days?

"Gathering herbs in the mountains, or tending to the irises in the fields." Jiang Yan's gaze drifted to the redwood pillar opposite him.

Jiang Nian frowned slightly. Her brother used to be a clerk in town who wrote documents. How come he was now tending to those few acres of land with Jiang Yan?

"Why do you keep coming here to deliver those irises?"

"To express our gratitude to the young mistress for saving our lives, and knowing that she loved to decorate her room with purple irises when she was young, our farming family has nothing of value to repay her with, so we can only offer these mundane items."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Nian remained silent for a moment, then sighed wistfully, "How are your parents?"

The usually responsive young man in black paused for a moment upon hearing this, and under Jiang Nian's questioning gaze, slowly replied:

"Thirteen years ago, a source beast attacked the village in Purple Iris Mountain, and my parents lost their lives in that attack."
