People in America: My Uncle Don Quixote

Chapter 2 Don Quixote the Knight

It was only at this moment that Li Wei "saw" the panel in his mind, but he couldn't help but mutter to himself.

"This is... a cheat code?" Li Wei's brain had just started to process what was happening. "Did the system awaken while I was sleeping?"

Before he could figure it out, Don Quixote, dressed in simple armor, had already strode out of the basement, and Li Wei could only follow closely behind.

Li Wei had previously heard that forcibly waking a sleepwalker could cause great harm to their cognition and mental state, and there was even a small chance of them developing mental disorders.

Although he didn't know if this claim was true or false, considering that the man was his guardian, his uncle, and his only support at the moment, it was better to let him have his way.

He followed Don Quixote out of the apartment building and walked one after the other on the sidewalk by the roadside.

It was very late at night, and the entire alley was deserted, with hardly a soul in sight. Only the sound of police sirens and the occasional gunshots from who-knows-where reminded Levi that he was in Brooklyn, one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York.

Looking at the knight Don Quixote, Li Wei couldn't help but ask, "Uncle... Sir Knight, where are we going?"

"We must find the goblins, my squire," Don Quixote exclaimed. "You know, goblins are very cunning; they hide deep in the forest, and we must be very, very careful to find them."

"If I could find a goblin in New York," Levi thought to himself. "I'd much rather find a succubus, an elf, or some Santa Claus, so I can rake in his gold coins."

"ha!"

For no apparent reason, the knight Don Quixote suddenly shouted, startling Li Wei.

"Right there!" he pointed. "That filthy, stinking goblin! The culprit harassing the villagers!"

Li Wei followed his gaze and saw a trash can?

Before he could say anything, Don Quixote gave him a shove: "Go, my squire. As a knight's squire, I trust you can handle this lone goblin!"

Levi pointed to himself, somewhat bewildered: "Me? But... you're a knight, I didn't take on any mission to protect the village."

"You're a knight's squire," Don Quixote smacked Livy on the head, "a lone goblin isn't someone a knight should personally confront!"

Li Wei didn't understand the second half of the sentence because Don Quixote had slapped him on the head with his gauntlet, and his head was still buzzing.

Okay, okay, as long as it's not a person.

He walked somewhat blankly to the trash can, looked at Don Quixote, then at the trash can, gritted his teeth, and slammed the trash can hard.

"Very well, squire," came Don Quixote's satisfied voice. "Keep beating it! Let it know how powerful you are!"

Li Wei had no choice but to keep punching and kicking, and then kicked the full trash can to the ground.

"Very good," Don Quixote walked up to him, staring at the trash can with his eyes closed, "this stinking goblin has been defeated by us."

"So, are we done with our mission?"

Li Wei turned to look at Don Quixote, whose eyes were closed, and asked.

Don Quixote remained silent for a moment, seemingly deep in thought about what Livy had said.

"We've defeated this goblin," Levi said, seeing that his words seemed to have some effect. "Leaving its corpse here might deter the surrounding goblins from trespassing on the village."

Don Quixote's eyes darted around under his eyelids, and he said, "You're right, squire Livy, it would be better to leave its body here."

"That's good," Li Wei said. "What should we do now?"

"Now it's time to go back and report," Don Quixote shouted. "The knight must tell the village chief that a wretched goblin has been vanquished today."

Li Wei glanced at Don Quixote's retreating figure, quickly squatted down to straighten the trash can, threw the trash back in, and followed Don Quixote.

"Could I exert some verbal influence on Uncle Don Quixote?" Li Wei thought to himself as he walked behind. "Perhaps this could reduce the time he spends sleepwalking?"

Don Quixote just walked out inexplicably wearing armor, ordered Livy to knock over a trash can, and then went back in his armor.

After they entered the room, Livy watched as Don Quixote closed his eyes, took off his armor, and stuffed it back into the corner.

"Squire, you have been very brave today," said Don Quixote. "I am very pleased."

After saying that, he skillfully took off his clothes, changed into his pajamas, and went into his cubicle. Ten seconds later, he started snoring.

At that moment, a voice appeared in Li Wei's mind again:

[Quest: Assisting the Knight in Clearing Goblins - Completed]

[Reward: System panel is now available; attribute points +0.1]

Your knight is very satisfied with you; bonus gold coin +1.

Suddenly, Li Wei felt a slight drop in his right pocket, as if something had fallen into it.

His heart suddenly started pounding, faster than ever before.

He strode into the bathroom, locked the doors and windows tightly, and then shakily reached his hand into his right pocket.

He touched a cold, hard, round piece of metal.

Upon taking it out, a golden light flashed under the lamp, and a gold coin with intricate patterns and completely unfamiliar designs lay quietly in Li Wei's palm.

Li Wei hissed and gasped.

He weighed the gold coin in his hand; it was about 5 grams, but he didn't know if it was real or fake.

"If it's real gold," he said, examining the coin closely in the light from the streetlamp outside, "it could probably sell for several hundred dollars."

However, the system panel in his mind seemed more important. Li Wei casually stuffed the gold coins into his pocket and then focused all his attention on the mysterious voice in his mind.

After a series of experiments, a semi-transparent panel appeared in the retina.

Name: Li Wei

Age: 17

【Strength: 0.8】

【Spirit: 1.0】

[Agility: 0.9]

[Physical Fitness: 0.8]

[Skills: None]

[Equipment: None]

[Assignable attribute points: 0.1]

[Skill available for extraction*1]

(Reference note: The average score for all aspects of a typical 20-year-old adult is 1.)

As expected, this is the standard template for senior high school students in China.

Li Wei had accepted the fact that he now had a system and began to carefully assess his physical condition.

Their strength and physique are weaker than those of a normal adult, their agility is slightly better but still below average, and their mental abilities are the only ones that reach the level of a normal adult.

Looking at the available attribute points, Li Wei suddenly took out the gold coins from his pocket.

He picked up the coin and examined it from all angles. The patterns and designs on it didn't belong to any country he knew. People can't imagine things they can't imagine. This gold coin was undoubtedly a reward from the system, not because he had gone mad.

As for system stat allocation...

He glanced at the snoring Don Quixote, then went back to his cubicle and did 10 push-ups on the floor.

We didn't have many testing tools at hand to test his physical changes, so we could only make a simple assessment using this simple method.

However, Li Wei's frail body, which had never been trained before, began to struggle after 10 push-ups. The first few push-ups were manageable, but after seven or eight, the belated lactic acid buildup brought him muscle soreness and a trembling sensation throughout his body.

After managing to do 10 push-ups, he got up from the floor, panting, and dusted off his hands.

His 0.8 physique and strength indicate a sub-healthy state, which made it difficult for him to do more than 10 push-ups. The last time he did push-ups was probably during a physical education class in junior high school.

Now it's time for him to test the real changes brought about by the system's point allocation.

"System... give me... some points!"
