Chapter 409 Talk to me? Call your father here! (Seeking monthly votes)

Walking behind him was a young blonde woman in her early twenties, who had probably had at least a pound of hyaluronic acid injected into her face and was wearing a tight-fitting dress with a large logo. She looked completely out of place in the environment.

The moment these two people appeared, the guests at the tables on the terrace frowned.

Li Wei overheard the guests at the table three or four meters away whispering to each other.

"Theodore DuPont (Chapter 119)?"

"Why is he here?"

"What bad luck."

"The DuPont family is really declining."

Elizabeth clearly recognized the newcomer, and a hint of annoyance and wariness flashed across her face.

"Theodore DuPont," she said softly as she watched the old man seat them in the most secluded corner.

"Who?" Anya was breaking off a breadstick.

"A big idiot, a moron, a complete waste of space," Elizabeth succinctly remarked. "A branch of the DuPont family. Last time I was in New York, he spent half an hour showing off his new yacht to me."

11

Anya said "Oh," and said with great interest, "I hope he can come and show it off to me." She turned her head and glanced at him, "My dad ordered a yacht that's even bigger than Abramovich's Eclipse. Once it's launched, it should be among the top two in the world."

""

“People in New York don’t usually flaunt whose yacht is bigger,” Elizabeth said casually. “Back then, I was just a young girl who collected trust money every month, so he kept showing off to me.”

"Does he like you?" Anya teased. "Let's go back to New York and get someone to beat him up."

Elizabeth was amused and waved her hand, "Don't say that, let's just eat our meal in peace."

On the other side.

Theodore DuPont was throwing a tantrum because he had been assigned to a remote location.

If it weren't for the many familiar faces present, he probably would have already started causing a scene at the restaurant.

Just then, his female companion suddenly whispered, "I think I saw a celebrity."

"Who?"

Theodore DuPont turned around and didn't see Elizabeth and Anya with their backs to him, but instead saw Levi facing him.

The only Asian face in the environment seemed just as out of place as he was.

"Oh," he said, turning his head, "Lee Wei, just an NFL star."

"He's really handsome," her female companion said.

"It's alright," Theodore DuPont forced a smile. "Listen, would you like to come with me to see the DuPont family's estate in Syr Harbor later? It's very beautiful—"

'

"Of course," the woman said instinctively, staring at Li Wei's profile, "of course I want to."

“By the way,” she turned to Theodore DuPont and said, “didn’t you just say you were very powerful in New York, and that your family name was very prestigious, right?”

"You haven't heard of DuPont?" Theodore DuPont exclaimed in surprise. "My family is the longest-lived company in the Fortune 500. You know General Motors, right? It's ours. You know nylon? You know Kevlar bulletproof material? We invented it."

Strictly speaking, the reason why the DuPont family has been able to maintain its prosperity for more than 200 years is that they have adopted more aggressive procreation measures than the Mellon family. Although the family's wealth exceeds 3000 billion US dollars, there are no fewer than 2000 people in the family with the surname DuPont, most of whom are collateral relatives like Theodore DuPont.

However, this did not prevent Theodore DuPont from taking all the family's achievements upon himself.

The woman gave an "oh," showing little interest. She couldn't understand a single word Theodore was saying; the English vocabulary he used was too advanced for someone who hadn't even graduated high school.

"Since you're so amazing, could you help me get a photo and autograph of Li Wei?" She pointed at Li Wei and said, "Since your family is so powerful, you can definitely get it for me, right?"

Theodore DuPont felt the blood in his crotch rushing to his head again.

An heir to the DuPont family, one of America's top ten financial groups (though from a collateral branch), is questioned by a woman about whether he can get an autographed photo of a yellow-skinned athlete.

This is an absolute disgrace!

He heard himself stand up and say coldly, "I'll have him come over and have a drink with us." Then he walked towards Li Wei's table.

He walked up to Li Wei, cleared his throat, and forced a smile.

"You're Levi, right?" He held out a hand. "Theodore DuPont, I suppose I don't need to introduce myself."

In his mind, Li Wei would stand up and shake his hand and greet him warmly after hearing his name, even if he wasn't enthusiastic. Taking a photo and getting an autograph would be a given.

However, Li Wei merely looked up at him and made no attempt to shake his hand.

"Is something the matter?" Theodore heard Levi say.

"Uh, I just wanted to say," Theodore DuPont pointed to the table in the corner, "that my girlfriend and I are—"

""

He stopped talking.

He saw Elizabeth.

"Liz," he blurted out, incredulously, "what are you doing here?"

“Mr. Theodore DuPont,” Elizabeth replied curtly, “I said only my family can call me Liz. Please use my full name.”

“Alright, Elizabeth,” Theodore DuPont gestured to Levi and Anya, “these are your…friends?”

"This is my boyfriend," Elizabeth said, taking Levi's hand. "So, is there something you need?"

Theodore DuPont was completely dumbfounded.

He never imagined that a yellow-skinned kid, an athlete he looked down upon, would actually climb the social ladder by marrying into the Mellon family! And she was Elizabeth, the most beautiful woman in the entire East Coast WASP!

He wasn't particularly obsessed with Elizabeth, but the fact that she openly dated a yellow-skinned boy made him feel as if his own bloodline had been insulted.

"You, me, him..." He pointed at Li Wei, trembling with anger, unable to utter a complete sentence. "How could you do this? How could you date an Asian?"

"I don't think I need to consult anyone about my personal matters, Theodore DuPont," Elizabeth said coldly. "Save your dignity and leave."

Theodore DuPont's face, already flushed from years of sun exposure and alcoholism, turned even redder.

He stood stubbornly in front of Li Wei's table, like a stone, refusing to move an inch.

A waiter from the restaurant came over and quietly asked him to leave.

Theodore DuPont stared at Levi, then suddenly chuckled dryly, turning to Elizabeth with a sense of satisfaction, and said, "I heard you recently became the acting chairman of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. I'm looking forward to seeing how you lead the foundation's development."

"The development of the foundation?" Elizabeth chuckled.

“Talk to me about the foundation’s development,” she said casually. “I don’t think Mr. Theodore DuPont holds any position within the DuPont family.”

1

Her words couldn't be clearer.

Want to talk to me? Call your dad first, you're not worthy.

Theodore DuPont's face flushed red and then turned pale. Finally, he turned and walked away to his desk.

Amidst the whispers of those around him, Li Wei suddenly received a new task:

You have encountered the prerequisite quest: Envoy from a Neighboring Country.

A spoiled brat from a neighboring country makes disdainful remarks about the new empress at a noble banquet, but you, with your keen insight, sense a hidden meaning in his words spoken in his moment of unease. Now, teach him a lesson, make him fear the consequences of his actions.

[Task Objective: To make him experience fear]

[Task Reward: 0.1 Free Attribute Point]

"What bad luck," Elizabeth shook her head.

"There's nothing I can do," Anya said with a smile, "because my darling is a big star."

She turned her head and glanced at him: "That ugly woman he brought with her, her face full of hyaluronic acid—wait, they're gone?"

She turned to Li Wei and said, "I saw that ugly woman staring at you the whole time. It's all your fault for being too handsome and causing all this trouble."

Li Wei smiled and stood up: "I'm going to the restroom first."

Theodore DuPont opened the door of his Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and slammed himself into the driver's seat.

"Walk!"

Once the woman got into the passenger seat, he slammed on the gas pedal without a word, creating a series of crackling sounds on the gravel road and making the car chassis rattle.

The car veered off the gravel road and onto the coastal highway leading to Syr Harbor, heading towards the main street of the northeast port.

Theodore's hands were dangling over the steering wheel, and he kept muttering something.

His female companion stared at him for a while, then pulled down the vanity mirror to check her eye makeup, concealing her disdain. She turned to Theodore and asked, "Who was that woman you met at the restaurant?" "Have you known each other for a long time?"

Theodore DuPont muttered again, unwillingly adding, "Elizabeth Mellon, the acting chairman of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, in case you don't know, that foundation makes nearly 30 billion in profit every year."

"Wow." The number was too big, beyond her comprehension.

Theodore DuPont turned his head and onto a quiet side road, holding the steering wheel with one hand.

"Her grandfather, Alexander Mellon, had a stroke recently," he said. "A young woman in her early twenties was pushed up to be a puppet. Don't be fooled by her high and mighty demeanor now; she could collapse any day now."

His female companion glanced at him and said noncommittally, "Then why were we the ones kicked out of the restaurant, and not them? You still can't win against her, can you?"

"Who says I can't win!" Theodore DuPont's voice suddenly rose, and he slammed his hand on the steering wheel. "It's not that I'm afraid of her, you understand? I just don't want to argue with her in that situation. The DuPont family is a cultured family, the oldest family in history, understand?!"

Her female companion gave a disdainful "humph" and took out her makeup bag to touch up her makeup.

Theodore DuPont kept talking. He glanced at his female companion and felt even more strongly that the woman in front of him was an idiot.

He initially ignored it, but became increasingly agitated, determined to regain his pride in front of her.

"What do you know?" he said loudly and impatiently. "Don't give me that look, damn it! Their foundation is about to be in big trouble. I don't even need to lift a finger; they'll become the laughingstock of the entire East Coast."

"Putting everything else aside," he pointed to himself, "just take our DuPont Longwood Foundation for example. We've been locked in a fierce battle with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation on the East Coast for over a decade—Ivy League schools, museums, medical philanthropy. Do you think some young girl who hasn't even graduated from college can handle all that now?"

He became more and more excited as he spoke, as if he were the core member of the DuPont family foundation, rather than a collateral descendant who had worked at DuPont for five years and was "resigned" and could only receive trust.

"So many eyes are watching," he scoffed. "If the Mellon Foundation suffers a major setback, it will become the laughingstock of the entire year."

"What big tumble?" the woman asked listlessly.

"This..." Theodore DuPont hesitated, then said angrily, "This is classified! Don't..."

boom! ! !

A dull thud came from the right rear of the car, and the entire vehicle suddenly swayed violently to the right.

"Damn it!!" Theodore instinctively slammed on the brakes. "What happened?"

He saw one of his car's tires in the rearview mirror, with half of the rim still attached.

Immediately afterwards, the ABS system started jumping wildly, but the car body, having lost the support of one rear wheel, was completely unresponsive. The rear of the car spun outwards and crashed into the outside of the road as if it had been kicked by a giant.

The tires screeched as they traced a piercing black arc across the asphalt, the smell of burning rubber filling the cabin. The car spun around a full one and a half times on the road before finally crashing its front into the granite guardrail. The airbags deployed, and the engine stalled.

silence.

The only sounds were the distant crashing of waves against the rocks and my female companion's sobs.

Theodore DuPont's heart was pounding in his throat; he swallowed hard to bring it back down.

He touched himself all over, and it took him more than ten seconds to confirm that he was still alive.

He unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the car door, and then his legs gave way, causing him to collapse to his knees with a thud.

He struggled to his feet, leaned on the car, and walked to the right rear of the Cayenne, looking down.

For some unknown reason, the hub of my right rear wheel broke off completely at the bearing.

The missing tire, along with the remaining half of the rim, was flung into the grass seven or eight meters away.
