Chapter 500 God Does Not Exist, But I Am God (Seeking Monthly Tickets)
A few minutes later, Mom came back.
"Mom, what happened?" Miguel asked. "Where did you go just now?"
"I had to go out and take care of something," Mom said, sitting back down on the bed and tidying up Miguel's messy hair. "Is there anything you want to eat? Or anything you want to play? Tell Mom, and Mom will try her best to make it happen for you."
Miguel felt increasingly uneasy.
Just then, the door to the ward was pushed open, and a middle-aged male doctor in a white coat walked in, holding a stack of medical records in his hand.
Good morning, Miguel, and Miguel's mother.
"Doctor!" Miguel cried out to the doctor as if he'd been saved, "Look at my mother's head! She's not right! She actually agreed to let me eat cake!"
The doctor paused for a moment, glanced at Miguel's mother's eyes, and then said, "Your mother is fine, and your... flu is getting better, so you can eat cake now."
"See?" Miguel's mother chimed in, "You don't believe me, but you have to believe the doctor, right?"
After the doctor nodded, Miguel finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Well," he muttered, "I'm just worried that my illness might not be as simple as the flu..."
""
"Why do you think that?" the doctor asked after a pause.
He exchanged a glance with Miguel's mother as he turned around.
"Because I've had a cold before," Miguel said. "I didn't have to be hospitalized or do a lot of testing before."
Miguel's mother stiffened for a moment.
"Also, if it were the flu, the hospitals would be overflowing with flu patients right now," Miguel sighed. "But why am I the only one having to do so many tests?"
The doctor looked at Miguel's mother, who shook her head.
"Because you have the new type of flu," the doctor said, "we need to do more tests on you. Maybe when you get better, you'll become a little hero for contributing to the fight against the flu."
Miguel was still a child, and he was easily coaxed into getting excited: "Really?"
"Of course it's true," the doctor said. "Come on, come with me for the examination. There might be a surprise for you later."
To everyone's surprise, Miguel's expression changed drastically after he said those words.
"No way?" The excitement on his face vanished completely. "A surprise? Is someone coming to see me?"
The doctor was taken aback by his question, "Don't you like surprises?"
"No, please, please don't let it be this," Miguel shook his head violently, "please don't let it be this."
"What's wrong, darling?" Miguel's mother walked over. "Don't you like it?"
Miguel stared at his cartoon-patterned blanket for a while before saying, "I've seen it online; every time a child is visited by a celebrity, it's because they have a terminal illness."
The ward fell silent all at once, but the sounds of carts being pushed and voices talking outside suddenly grew louder, surging into the room and becoming deafening.
"So the surprise you were talking about," Miguel looked up and said hopefully, "isn't this, right?"
I was only able to eat cake because I was almost better, right?
The doctor frowned, looked away with a troubled expression, and refused to meet Miguel's gaze.
Miguel looked at his mother again: "Mom, don't lie to me, I'm getting better soon, right?"
With one hand still resting on Miguel's hair, his mother stood frozen in place, silent.
After a few seconds, she touched Miguel's hair, squatted down, and hugged Miguel tightly.
Seeing the two adults' reactions, Miguel felt a surge of panic welling up inside him, like a dam breaking, and it burst forth in tears.
"Am I really going to die?" His voice trembled with tears, growing louder and louder. "Have you been lying to me all this time? I don't have the flu, do I?"
Miguel—
'
"What exactly is this illness?" Miguel wiped away his tears, but the more he wiped, the more tears flowed, no matter how hard he tried. "Why did you never tell me?"
"Baby, listen to me," the mother's voice trembled, "You'll be alright, Mommy promises you, you'll be alright."
"Then why are you crying?" Miguel and his mother hugged each other and cried bitterly. "Mom, Mom, don't cry, Mom, I don't want to die."
The mother held Miguel's head in her arms, as if trying to stop death from taking her beloved son away. The two of them cried together, unable to say a word.
The doctor stood to the side, remaining silent for a long time before finally speaking, "Miguel, you're a very smart child," he crouched down to Miguel's eye level, "but your mother is right, we'll do our best to help you get better, okay?"
Miguel didn't say anything, he just hugged his mother tighter.
After a while, his crying subsided.
He rubbed his face against his mother's shoulder, snot streaming down his face.
He tried to let go of his mother, but she held him tightly. After pushing her away a couple of times without success, Miguel whispered, "Mom, I have to go see the doctor for a checkup. I'll be back soon."
Seeing that his mother still showed no sign of letting go, he hesitated for a moment, then said, "How can I get better without getting checked?"
Miguel's mother trembled slightly, but eventually released him.
"Let's eat cake and stuff after I'm better," Miguel said to his mother as he left.
Mom nodded vigorously.
After Miguel left, she looked at the empty hospital room and suddenly felt a great panic, afraid that this might be the last time she and her son would see each other. Her son's voice seemed to still be echoing in her ears, and she cried out in pain again.
A few minutes later.
Li Wei walked in sideways, holding a bunch of sunflowers in one hand, followed by Anya and Katya.
As soon as he entered the room, he saw a woman with her head down, covering her face with a tissue and crying.
He glanced back at the house number, then at Anya.
"Did you go to the wrong place?"
"No, this is the one," the stall owner from yesterday walked over. "This is my sister."
Miguel's mother looked up when she heard the noise, saw the four people at the door, was stunned for a moment, and then suddenly stood up in a fluster.
"Excuse me," she quickly wiped her face and tidied her appearance, "I've been rude. You must be Mr. Li Wei?"
"Hello," Levi placed the flowers on the bedside table, "Where's Miguel?"
"He...he went to get a checkup with the doctor," Miguel's mother began, but couldn't finish her sentence. "Thank you, thank you for coming—"
She was so emotional that she started rambling incoherently: "They checked very quickly, I, I..."
She felt bad about taking up Li Wei's time, but she didn't want to interrupt Miguel's examination, so she was at a loss.
"It's alright," Anya comforted her. "We're not in a hurry. We'll wait for him to come back. The child's health is the most important thing."
Li Wei glanced at Anya.
Anya understood Li Wei's unspoken message: Weren't we supposed to go eat later? Why are you suddenly saying you're not in a hurry?
Anya returned Li Wei's look, as if to say, "Can't you wait a bit? After all, she's in a pitiful state right now."
Li Wei returned a knowing look and sat down.
Miguel's mother began to recount, with a mix of tears and laughter, Miguel's adoration for Levi and her concern for her own child.
He talked for a good half hour about how sensible the boy was, and then about how he had said he would definitely go to the cinema to watch a Levi's movie on Christmas and sit in the front row to count the scales on the dragon.
"He was just an ordinary little boy," she murmured to herself. "Why was God so cruel to him?"
Because God does not exist, Li Wei thought, and I am God.
Just then, a line of text popped up in front of Li Wei's eyes:
You have been given a task: A healthy body is a precious asset.
[Mission Description: A child is struggling against a curse. His life is fading away, but the flame in his heart and his yearning for knighthood have not been extinguished.]
As a knight, you can protect those faint lights and restore his health with the power of the Golden Miracle.
]
[Mission Objective: To cure the child]
[Task Reward: 0.5 Free Attribute Point]
About half an hour later, the door to the ward was pushed open, and Miguel walked in, pressing the cotton pad on his arm.
As soon as he entered the room, he saw three strangers sitting in the ward.
A tall young man, a beautiful woman with red hair, and a middle-aged woman with short blonde hair stood at the corner.
Miguel stared at Levi's face for a moment, his lips twitching as if trying to put on a smile, but he quickly pouted again, tears welling up in his eyes.
"So," he said softly, "my illness is really bad, isn't it?"
Anya hesitated to speak, while Li Wei simply looked at him.
Miguel's mother covered her mouth and turned away.
“You don’t need to lie to me anymore,” Miguel said. “You are Levi.”
He looked down at the cotton ball on his arm: "Am I going to die?"
"You won't die," Li Wei walked over, squatted down to look him in the eye, "I promise."
"My mom even promised to buy me a game console," Miguel said, pursing his lips, "but now it seems that adults' promises are all lies."
"Really?" Levi turned to look at Miguel's mother. "When Miguel recovers and is discharged from the hospital, can we buy him a game console?"
Miguel's mother nodded vigorously.
Li Wei reached out and ruffled Miguel's hair, while silently activating [Knight's Light (Gold)] in his mind.
There was no light or sound. Miguel only felt that Levi's hands were very hot, from the top of his head all the way to the soles of his feet, as if he were soaking in hot water.
He shivered comfortably and looked at Li Wei: "Your hands are very hot, are you running a fever?"
"Everyone's body is different," Li Wei smiled and withdrew his hand. "Trust me, you'll get better soon."
Miguel's lips curved into a smile at the amusement, but his expression quickly returned to its usual gloom.
Li Wei didn't say anything more. He would know what a miracle was when he had his next checkup.
Soon, Miguel began to feel sleepy and fell into a deep sleep.
Anya took Li Wei's arm and said goodbye to Miguel and the stall owner.
As Li Wei was leaving, the mission dialog box popped up again in front of his eyes:
You have completed the task: A healthy body is a precious asset.
You have dispelled the curse from the child; his life will continue to burn brightly.
You have received a reward of 0.5 free attribute points.
Adding the 0.5 from yesterday's Halloween, it's exactly 1 o'clock.
Without the slightest hesitation, Li Wei immediately added his attribute points to Agility.
Agility 13.0 - Agility 14.0
There are only 3 points left to trigger the Ascension to Godhood preparation mission.
The news of Levi's secret visit to Miguel quickly made it into the New York news and some of Levi's fan social media, but since Levi did not invite any media outlets, the matter did not spread widely.
However, Noah Brennan kept a close eye on Levi's movements.
After spotting Levi's location, he drove straight to New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
