Pirate: I was just slacking off, do you really think I'm bad?

Chapter 101, Section 98: The Conflict in the Tavern

On the island inhabited by the Kingdom of Eryokabu, Raleigh and Cleveland arrived, travel-worn.

"Good heavens, the pollution here is terrible!"

Cleveland is complaining about air quality.

He took two simple gas masks out of his backpack and handed them to Raleigh.

"Eldest... Boss."

Cleveland almost called Raleigh by the wrong name again, but after being glared at fiercely by Raleigh, he quickly corrected himself.

After putting on the gas mask, Raleigh carefully surveyed the city.

The city where Raleigh landed was more prosperous and had more people than the city where the dragons landed.

"Young man, are you from out of town?"

A person wearing a gas mask that looked like a crow walked over.

"Yes, we are tourists from out of town. We happened to be passing through the Kingdom of Eryokabu, so we decided to stop by and take a look."

Raleigh answered calmly.

In his perception, the man in front of him was very weak.

"Alright, alright, if you need anything, feel free to come to me anytime. I'd be happy to help."

After saying that, the man left.

"Boss Lo...Loli, what's going on?"

"What's going on? We've been targeted. There are local bullies around here."

Neither Raleigh nor Cleveland were afraid of this so-called local bully.

However, they remained vigilant during the operation.

Raleigh received his first warning within minutes of stepping onto the island.

It must be said that the Kingdom of Eryokabu is quite interesting.

"What should we do next, Boss Raleigh?"

Cleveland asked Raleigh, who thought for a moment and then said:

"Ask the locals if there are any pubs or anything around here? I'm a bit thirsty."

After asking around, we finally found a small tavern.

The dilapidated wooden door and the mottled walls seem to tell the story of this tavern's long history.

"Finally found the tavern! I was so afraid that if I kept looking, I wouldn't be able to find it at all!"

Despite his complaints, Raleigh's hands moved swiftly as he pushed open the dilapidated door.

The hinges of the wooden door seemed to be broken, making a sickeningly loud noise.

The tavern was quite lively, and the dim lighting made it take Raleigh a while to adjust before he could see clearly.

What came into view was no longer the image of those emaciated miners that Raleigh had seen before.

Some of them had the unique symbol of the pirate crew engraved on their bodies, while others had steel whips hanging from their waists and behind their chairs, signifying their status as supervisors.

The lively atmosphere paused briefly when Raleigh and Cleveland entered.

The atmosphere immediately returned to normal, even becoming more lively.

Ignoring everyone else in the room, Raleigh and Cleveland went straight to the bar and ordered two glasses of rum.

After sitting down, Raleigh and Cleveland removed their masks, revealing two handsome faces.

Seeing the two completely unfamiliar faces, some people in the venue began to have wicked thoughts.

"Generally, only people with middle or higher incomes go to the tavern to drink. At this time, the miners are all at work, and only the foremen who have finished their shifts can come here to drink."

Raleigh shared his personal experiences with Cleveland.

Because he really believes in the future development of Cleveland.

Although Cleveland didn't completely trust him like the flying squirrel did, to be honest, Raleigh needed more capable subordinates.

"Boss, we're here to gather information, right?"

Cleveland lowered his voice, speaking in a tone that only the two of them could hear.

"Sometimes, even if you're willing to ask, you might not find out anything."

"But sometimes when people are bragging in a bar, a single sentence they utter might be the key you're looking for."

Raleigh explained patiently.

"Of course, you also need to have the ability to solve problems."

Because Raleigh caught a glimpse of a drunkard with ill intentions out of the corner of his eye.

"Those two guys don't look like good people at all."

The drunkard mumbled something, and his companions exchanged a glance before bursting into laughter.

"Joseph, you've really had too much to drink. We're not exactly saints either!"

"I think Joseph is really drunk; he probably won't even be able to find his way home in a little while."

Joseph was infuriated by the mockery from his classmates.

"No...no, they are definitely not the same kind of people as us."

Joseph downed another cup of wine and said.

Although he wasn't very skilled, his years of experience working in the mines had given him a keen eye for talent.

"Alright, Joseph, I thought you were interested in those two pretty boys."

Joseph was humiliated by his companions' mockery, and his face showed an expression of anger and embarrassment.

At this moment, their leader, who was sitting in the center, spoke up.

"I also feel that there's something wrong with those two. Joseph, go and probe them."

Joseph was immediately delighted upon hearing his leader's words.

He said he had thought about going to see two people from out of town, just for fun.

But without the boss's permission, he dared not go.

Now that the boss has spoken, he can go with peace of mind.

Even if they are two powerful outsiders, they can only obediently listen to their boss.

"Trouble is brewing."

Raleigh said something to Cleveland, then raised the glass of rum in front of him and drank it down in one gulp.

"Phew, that feels good. Another one, boss!"

Raleigh raised his glass to the tavern owner.

"Good guest, here's the last bottle of rum for you."

boom!

A greasy hand slammed down on Raleigh's table with a loud bang.

The others in the tavern were startled by the loud noise.

He turned around and saw Joseph, that drunkard, and was about to curse him.

Seeing Raleigh and Cleveland standing to the side, they quieted down, ready to watch the farce that Joseph was putting on.

"You bastard, you drank all the rum, so what am I supposed to drink?"

Joseph shouted in a very casual manner.

Raleigh glanced at Cleveland without making a sound, then lowered his head and remained silent.

"If you don't say anything, I'll take it as you giving me this bottle of rum."

After saying that, Joseph reached for the rum bottle.

But one hand was faster than his movements.

Before Joseph could react, Cleveland plunged a gleaming silver fork into the back of his hand.

Cleveland's face was expressionless; he was only exerting force with his right hand, which was gripping the fork.

Joseph's hand was pinned to the table.

"Aaaaaaah~ You bastard!"

Joseph, in pain, tried to pull the fork out of his hand, but couldn't for a moment, so he could only look to his boss.

"Alright, stop embarrassing yourself and go back to your seat."

The boss glanced at his idiot subordinate and stood up helplessly.

He walked over to Joseph, stretched out a hand, and forcefully pulled the fork off the table.

"Let me introduce myself. My name is Carlos Barrena, the local mafia boss."

Raleigh and Cleveland exchanged a glance, and then Raleigh calmly spoke:

"We're in the business of redistributing population resources."
