New Han Dynasty 1834

After settling in Manila, the European and American businessmen arranged for their staff to go back and investigate the situation in their home countries, while also gathering from time to time to discuss the present and the future.

On June 10, 1834, Dinty, the head of Dinty & Co., and his two partners met with Romon, Delano, and Forbes, partners of Russell & Co., as well as Forbes' godfather, Wu Bingjian, at a Chinese merchant's estate in Manila.

Wu Bingjian was the owner of Jardine Matheson, mainly engaged in the tea, raw silk and porcelain business. He also enjoyed a wide reputation in the United States and was able to participate in the investment of American railway construction through his godson Forbes.

There was a huge disagreement among European and American businessmen regarding whether to take a tough stance against the Han Dynasty and whether to use force directly.
