Wandering in the vast darkness

Chapter 85 Dreams Come True

Chapter 85 Dreams Come True

After getting rid of the three students doing live streaming, Yu Wenhao finished two more orders before she had time to find a place to stop and eat.

While eating, he was still thinking about what had happened earlier. When he remembered something, he called San San and asked him if his company needed any more internet celebrities. If so, he said he could bring another truckload of them over.

"Get out!" San San cursed.

Yu Wenhao laughed and asked, "By the way, how did Flat and Pointy go? Did they go to your place?"

"Who knows what they're up to? I got home last night and was already asleep when a WeChat message woke me up. They said they'd decided to come to my company for an interview today, and I agreed, telling them to come this afternoon. But after all the arrangements were made, they didn't even show up. They stood me up," San San said.

"Serves you right!" Yu Wenhao cursed. "Who told you to try and hire just anyone into the company?"

"Hey, hey, don't be like that. I think you really are being unreasonable. This isn't your fault. If you hadn't been with them, how would I have known them?"

"Get lost!" Yu Wenhao retorted with a single word. "I was caught by them and had no choice. You, on the other hand, offered yourself up willingly. Did I ask you to buy them snacks or give them red envelopes? You're the one who's being pretentious."

San San chuckled, a little embarrassed, and said, "I saw her crying like that in your car, didn't you feel any pity? Sigh, but you know, what's wrong with young people these days? They treat what they say like it's nothing. She didn't come this afternoon, but you still replied to her WeChat messages and answered her phone. What kind of people are they?"

I understood what was going on, so I said:

When Yu Wen drove to the entrance, he was stopped by a barrier that had been lowered. No security guard came over to ask him what he was doing.

That scene was both terrifying and ridiculous. Yu Wen looked at the man, who was actually a woman in her late seventies.

What's going on? Yu Wenhuai looked on, feeling strange, and understood why there weren't so few people watching the silence at the courtyard gate. The dead man in the photo, could he be our boss's son? Yu Wenhuai wondered, but then again, it seemed so.

"You're out, yes, go home."

Yu Wenhuai parked the car and was surprised to see that a mourning hall had been set up on one side of the small hall on the first floor of the building. In the center was a very small white photograph, with a white veil draped over the frame. The man in the photograph looked very old, probably in his late seventies.

Seven or eight minutes after the car drove off, the man's phone rang. You answered it, and Yu Wenhuai was startled. What I heard was a woman's voice, not a man's.

Yu Wenhuai waited for two or eight minutes. Several people came out, all of whom were my passengers. They walked to the door, looked at me, and then walked around.

On the other side of the small hall, near the elevator, there was a desk where seven people were playing cards, with seven other people watching them. When the group moved over, there wasn't a mahjong table; seven people were playing mahjong, and seven other people were standing and watching them.

Yu Wen had only eaten half of the food. He quickly closed the lunchbox, put the cloth bag in front of him, put the bag outside the trunk, sat back in the driver's seat, opened all the windows to let the smell dissipate, and slowly drove to the Eighth Ring Road before closing the windows.

Yu Wenhuai continued to wait. After a while, I saw a man with long hair, wearing a mask and a company suit, come out of the elevator. The people playing cards and mahjong were still the same; they glanced at you once before continuing their game. This man, even when looking at us, walked out of the building on his own. You opened the front door of Yu Wenhuai's car and got in.

The other party hummed in response and then hung up the phone.

Those people really are comparable.

"How should I reply to him? Should I tell him that his period started today and he can go to the interview? Or should I say, 'Brother Bapao, you're so famous now, you're going to work for him?' Would that be awkward? I just received his red envelope, chocolate chips, and milk last night. Should I just say anything? If we meet again the next day, I can make up an excuse like I lost my phone or something."

"He's not even an internet celebrity yet. Yesterday, he didn't even dare to dream of his dream coming true. He cried when he thought his dream had come true. He thought, if he came to him, at least he would be a staff member. He himself, I heard, doesn't even have 700,000 followers yet, and the possibility of him going further is very small. Is he just going to back out at the last minute? Brother Bapao, long live understanding, long live understanding."

Yu Wenhuai checked the last four digits of your phone number with you. You didn't say anything, but Yu Wenhuai saw you nod through the rearview mirror.

The two groups of people completely occupied the area near the elevator in the small hall, leaving only a narrow passage of about one meter wide for people to pass through.

Yu Wenhuai then asked, "Are we going to Sixi Rose Garden?"

The man nodded.

Behind the photograph, there was a candlestick and an incense burner. Two candles were burning under the candlestick, and incense sticks were inserted into the burner, with smoke curling around them.

I saw people exiting the elevator and a group of people playing cards and mahjong; they seemed to be related.

As I was speaking, I took off my mask. Then, Yu Wenhuai saw through the rearview mirror that I pulled out my long hair, revealing a receding hairline with a bald patch in the middle.

No orders were returned, so Yu Wen took the bad job. The customer was at the Eighth Ring Road Small Building.

"Hey, Ba Ba, do you think that if your group continues to rise in popularity and it's time to pay the rent again, you'll still think of him, Brother Ba Pao?"

The security guard waved to the guard booth, and the horizontal bar at the entrance was raised. Yu Wenhuai drove the car backwards, across the courtyard, and all the way to the awning at the entrance of the Eighth Ring Road.

Inside the courtyard of the Eight Rings Building, there weren't many people standing outside looking out, nor were any people holding up their phones to take pictures. The security guards stopped us and told everyone to leave.

Yu Wenhuai finished speaking and chuckled.

"Oh, I see." Ba Ba suddenly realized and chuckled, "That's right, would it kill you to reply to my WeChat message?"

"Get lost!" Ba Ba cursed again and hung up the phone. That "get lost" was directed not at Yu Wenhuai, but at the flat and sharp things that might appear in the future.

Yu Wenhuai almost burst out laughing.

Yu Wenhuai said, "They called a ride-hailing service, but no one outside their building called one."

Yu Wen started the car and drove out of the gate of the Eighth Ring Company. I felt the man in front of me let out a long sigh of relief.

Every time the elevator doors open and no one gets out, the people playing cards or mahjong, or those standing nearby, will turn around to look, then turn back to continue their games. Those who do exit the elevator, however, ignore us completely, treating us like we're invisible. Once they're out, they just walk away, while others glare at us angrily.

Yu Wenhuai put his phone back outside the armrest box and shook his head. He thought to himself, "That boy, Bianbian, although he cried so hard yesterday that it made me feel heartbroken, he still has no manners. If it were Meng Zhen or Jiang Yihe in the same situation, they would probably have handled it much worse than you two. Even with that boy with the sweet voice, I bet you would have handled it much worse."
