Entertainment Industry: I am a top-tier movie star
Chapter 8 The Opportunity
Filming didn't wrap up until after 5 a.m.
After removing her makeup, Chen Nianbei changed back into her own clothes.
A gray hooded sweatshirt, jeans, and canvas shoes.
I quickly washed my face, and the red marks on my forehead from the bump were still faintly visible.
Naza was waiting in the rest area, looking down at his phone.
"Let's go."
Chen Nianbei walked to her side.
There is a small street outside the film and television base, with various small shops on both sides.
Back in 2012, Huairou was not yet fully developed, and the shops were quite simple.
The grilled fish restaurant that Chen Nianbei took Nazha to was a small place with only seven or eight tables.
The proprietress knew him.
These past few days, he's occasionally come here with the film crew for late-night snacks.
"Little Chen's here?"
The proprietress was in her forties and had a loud voice.
"Um."
Chen Nianbei found a seat by the window. "Boss lady, the usual, one grass carp, with extra bean curd sheets and lotus root slices as side dishes."
"Okay! Just you wait, coming right away!"
There were only two tables of customers in the shop. One table was occupied by workers from a nearby construction site, and the other table was occupied by a few young people who looked like tourists.
Naza sat down, looking around curiously: "Do you come here often?"
"I've been here twice."
Chen Nianbei poured her some tea. "When the crew finishes work late, we come here with Uncle Zhang and the others for a bite to eat. It tastes pretty good."
Naza took the teacup, and when his hand touched the side of the cup, he pulled it back slightly.
"Be careful, it's hot," Chen Nianbei said.
"Um."
While waiting for the food, the two remained silent for a moment.
The sky outside the window had darkened, and the streetlights were turning on one by one.
Occasionally, a film crew's car would drive by as they finished work and headed back to the city, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Your scene today..."
Naza couldn't help but ask, "What were you thinking about while acting?"
Chen Nianbei looked at the tea leaves floating in the teacup and thought for a moment: "I wasn't thinking about anything, I was just immersing myself in the role."
"How did you emulate that?"
"Imagine if it were my dad lying there."
He said it calmly, "Then I knew how to act."
Naza was stunned for a moment.
She hadn't expected him to be so direct.
"I'm sorry..." she whispered.
"fine."
Chen Nianbei laughed, "I don't actually have that kind of experience. When acting, you have to find something that you can relate to."
The proprietress brought out the grilled fish.
On the iron plate, a grass carp is laid out in red oil, surrounded by bean curd sheets, lotus root slices, wood ear fungus, and bean sprouts.
The small stove underneath was lit, bubbling away.
The aroma immediately filled the air.
"Try it." Chen Nianbei handed her a pair of chopsticks.
Naza picked up a piece of fish, carefully blew on it, and put it in his mouth.
"Delicious!" Her eyes lit up.
"Right?"
Chen Nianbei also picked up her chopsticks, saying, "It's much better than the school cafeteria."
The two ate intently for a few minutes, and the atmosphere became much more relaxed.
"Oh, right."
Naza suddenly remembered something, "Teacher Li said in class a few days ago that we need to put on a play for the end-of-term performance."
Chen Nianbei looked up: "What play?"
"It's not decided yet, but I heard it might be 'Thunderstorm'."
Naza said, "Teacher Li also privately told a few... well, students with better grades that she could recommend anyone who performed well in the performance to audition for a film."
Chen Nianbei paused for a moment.
He had absolutely no recollection of this in his previous life.
But thinking about it, it makes sense.
At that time, his grades were at the bottom, so even if Teacher Li had the opportunity, it was unlikely that she would tell him.
"Which film crew?" he asked.
"I don't know the specifics."
Naza said, "Anyway, the opportunity is pretty good. Many people in the class are putting in a lot of effort to try and get it."
After she finished speaking, she glanced at Chen Nianbei and said, "You and Director Kong are such good friends, you probably wouldn't be interested in an opportunity like this, right?"
Chen Nianbei laughed: "How could that be? There's never too many opportunities."
What he said was the truth.
In his past life, he had experienced the hardship of not being able to get roles, and he knew that every opportunity was precious.
"Will you be able to participate in the final performance?"
Naza asked, "When will your filming here end?"
"We should be able to make it."
Chen Nianbei calculated the time, "I don't have many scenes, and filming will wrap up in another half month."
"That's good."
Naza bent down to pick out fish bones, "If you participate, your results will definitely be good."
"Not necessarily," Chen Nianbei said modestly. "My classmates are quite talented."
Naza looked up at him, her eyes serious: "But you're different now. Your performance in that scene today was really good."
She said this with great certainty.
Chen Nianbei's heart skipped a beat.
In my past life, I rarely heard Naza praise someone so directly.
"Thank you," he said.
I'm serious.
Naza picked up another slice of lotus root. "I think you've changed a lot. It's like... you suddenly had a breakthrough."
Chen Nianbei didn't reply, but poured her a cup of tea.
"And what about you?"
He changed the subject, "Do you want to try for that audition opportunity?"
"Yes, I do."
Naza replied without hesitation, "Sister Li also told me to prepare well for the final performance; there's never too much of an opportunity. But..."
She paused for a moment, then added, "There are indeed quite a few outstanding people in the class."
"You're not bad either."
He said, "Besides, you already have a work to your name, Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of the Sky is quite popular."
"That's a minor character."
Naza pouted. "Sister Li said that actors ultimately have to rely on their representative works to speak for themselves."
That's very true.
Chen Nianbei looked at her.
Under the lights, Naza's face still retained a girlish innocence, but her eyes already held a longing and anxiety for the future.
He was all too familiar with this situation.
"Then prepare well."
He said, "Treat the end-of-term performance like a real play."
"Um."
Naza nodded. "Then... will you help me take a look? When I'm rehearsing."
"Okay."
Chen Nianbei readily agreed, "But I'll have to wait until I finish filming and go back to school."
"It's a deal!"
The two clinked their teacups together.
After finishing their grilled fish, Naza glanced at his phone and said, "Oh dear, it's almost six o'clock. I have to go."
I'll take you to the station.
After paying the bill, Chen Nianbei walked out of the store. The evening breeze was a bit chilly.
Naza wrapped her coat tighter around herself, and Chen Nianbei walked on her outside, shielding her from the wind.
The journey to the station isn't far, only about ten minutes.
The music store on the street was playing a song, "Little Love Song," which was very popular a few years ago.
The sound drifted out, somewhat ethereal in the night.
"Chen Nianbei,"
Naza suddenly spoke up, "Do you think... we can pull it off?"
"What?"
"It's about... actually becoming an actor, acting well, and getting recognized."
She spoke with some hesitation, as if afraid that what she said was too naive.
Chen Nianbei thought for a moment and said very seriously, "Yes."
"Are you so sure?"
"Um."
He looked at the dim streetlights ahead, "As long as you truly like it and are willing to put in the effort, you can do it."
Naza turned to look at him.
The profile of his face was clearly visible under the light, and his eyes were calm and resolute.
She suddenly felt that there was something reassuring about this classmate.
"We've arrived." Chen Nianbei stopped in her tracks.
The station was just ahead, and a bus heading to the city center was already waiting at the platform.
"Then I'm leaving," Nazar said.
"Be careful on the road. Send me a message when you arrive."
"it is good."
Naza jogged onto the bus, sat down by the window, and waved to him.
Chen Nianbei also waved.
The car drove away, its taillights leaving a red trail in the night.
He stood there for a while, then turned and walked back.
My phone vibrated in my pocket; it was from the guy with the braided hair.
"I had a great time today, thank you for the grilled fish. Let's do our best in the final performance!"
Chen Nianbei smiled and replied with "Okay".
He walked slowly along the path he had come from, his mind filled with what Naza had mentioned about the end-of-term performance.
Teacher Li's recommendation...
He missed too many such opportunities in his past life.
In this life, he will seize them one by one.
He looked up as he walked downstairs from the guesthouse.
The lights were already on in the four-person room; the other three extras should have returned.
He took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
There's still filming to do tomorrow.
The story of Xiaoman is not over yet.
