Chapter 39 Tasia's Subpersonality

"Let me go!" Tasia struggled to get up, but was held down by the person on top of her and couldn't move an inch.

"I'll think about it again when you've calmed down." Lu Mingfei held Tasia's hands firmly with one hand like an iron clamp, while pressing her down on the sofa with the other hand, where two broken wooden sticks lay.

"You barged into my house and you expect me to calm down?" Tasia said angrily. She struggled but couldn't get through, so she gave up and glared coldly at Lu Mingfei.

"Huh? You brought me here and then accused me of breaking into your house. Even if you have a split personality and your memories aren't shared, you should at least let someone explain themselves first. Do you think a stranger would sneak into the village just to come to your house? What's their motive?" Lu Mingfei was also a bit angry. A few minutes ago, Tasia picked up a stick and swung it at him. If he weren't different now, he might have been beaten to a pulp.

The person beneath him fell silent for a moment, then said, "So... you were brought here by my main personality?"

"Wow, so you know you have a split personality? Tasia is so gentle, oh! So you're her dark personality, right?" Lu Mingfei didn't let go of her right away, lest something else go wrong.

Tasia was speechless, choked by the insults. She said, "Then why did you attack first when I was going to let you go?"

"What? Weren't you going to stab me?" Lu Mingfei asked, puzzled.

"I was sheathing my sword!" Tasia said irritably.

A few seconds of silence followed between them, at which point they realized they had misunderstood each other.

"Can you let me go now?" Tasia said, twisting her body twice to signal Lu Mingfei to let go quickly.

Lu Mingfei slowly released his grip, but his golden eyes remained lit, like two inextinguishable flames in a dark room. He did not let his guard down, fearing that Tasia's secondary personality might turn on him again in a moment.

Tasia stood up, rubbing her reddened wrist, wondering why this person was so strong. She tried to glare at him, but what she saw was still those golden eyes that had frightened her before. A strange sense of intimidation invaded her again, and she quickly turned her head away.

"What's your name? And what are those two light bulbs? And what's your potential?"

"Lu Mingfei, and this isn't a light bulb, it's a golden eye, um... consider it my potential," Lu Mingfei said.

"Can you turn it off? It's creepy."

After confirming that Tasia had no intention of attacking, the golden light in Lu Mingfei's eyes slowly faded like a tide. "Alright."

Tasia looked up, and only then did she have time to properly examine the person she had mistaken for an intruder. The boy's skin was as white as fresh snow, and its texture was as delicate as the finest silk fabric.

"He's quite handsome." Tasia looked away and muttered to herself.

"What did you say?" Lu Mingfei didn't hear clearly and subconsciously took a step closer.

"Nothing, nothing." Tasia was startled by Lu Mingfei's sudden approach and took a few steps back, her back hitting the bookshelf.

A silence fell over the two of them, and they just stood there.

"Have a seat first," Tasia broke the silence. Her mind was in turmoil; she had suddenly appeared out there and didn't even know who this person in front of her was.

After Lu Mingfei sat down, Tasia poured two glasses of water and placed them in front of each other, then rubbed her temples. "So... why did I bring you here?"

Lu Mingfei stared blankly at her: "You brought me here, and you're asking me?"

"I know I brought you here, but that's me and not me. How would I know why I brought you here?" Tasia said matter-of-factly.

Lu Mingfei covered his face, not knowing what was going on. Tasia had said she would let him experience the magic of turning people into humans, but it turned out that her second personality had come out and even started fighting with him.

Lu Mingfei took a deep breath and said, "Then can you call back your main personality?"

"I finally got out of here, why should I go back?" Tasia raised an eyebrow, a hint of sullenness in her voice.

"Shall I leave?" Lu Mingfei made a move to get up.

"Wait a minute," Tasia suddenly called out to him. She put down her cup, folded her hands on her knees like a student carefully choosing her words, and said, "Since you're here... sit with me for a while."

Lu Mingfei sat down again. Outside the window, the lights of Longgu Village lit up one by one, and the warm yellow glow shone through the glass, dancing on the ends of her golden hair.

"Are you familiar with me, or rather, with 'her'?" Tasia asked, her eyes sparkling.

Lu Mingfei didn't know how to put it. Were they close? After the last shielding tower mission, they should be considered sworn brothers. But to say they weren't close, he hadn't actually met Tasia much, or rather, he didn't know Tasia at all.

"I'd say we're close... like brothers who'd been through thick and thin together?" Lu Mingfei managed to utter a somewhat inaccurate answer.

"That's great, and we're practically best friends," she suddenly said. "Actually, I rarely talk to people like that."

Lu Mingfei didn't speak, but listened quietly. The girl who had been very excited in front of him suddenly softened.

"I usually appear on the battlefield," she laughed. "You should know that sometimes she has to teleport around on the battlefield, and then I come out. There's no time to talk to anyone; I have to fight in her place."

Lu Mingfei understood why she had been so agitated earlier.

"Sometimes it might not be me; it could be someone else entirely."

"There are other versions of you inside your body?" Lu Mingfei asked in surprise.

"Hmm, the memories of our multiple personalities are shared, but we can't talk to the main personality. It's like the memories are divided into two hard drives. The main personality has her own hard drive, and we multiple personalities share the other hard drive, so we often can't communicate with each other."

"So how do you communicate with the main personality?"

"We keep a diary. We carry a diary with us and record everything that happens each day. But I haven't had a chance to look at it since we came out, so I don't know you." Tasia pulled a small notebook out of her clothes and waved it at Lu Mingfei.

"No wonder you attacked right away," Lu Mingfei muttered. He then asked, "Aren't you guys incredibly bored when you're not out here?"

Tasia waved her hand: "No, how should I put it? When we're not out, it's like we're sleeping, but every time we wake up, we feel like we've been isolated from the world for a long time."

She pointed at Lu Mingfei: "Take you for example. I know everyone in the village—Boss Bai, Shan Da, Xu Tong, Xia Dou—but I don't know you."

Lu Mingfei awkwardly touched his nose, admitting that coming to this world was indeed an accident: "So how do you usually switch back?"

"I just came out, and you want me to leave!" Tasia glared at him.

"No, no, I was just asking out of curiosity," Lu Mingfei quickly waved his hand, protesting his innocence.

Tasia let him go, looking out the window at the approaching dusk: "He just suddenly went offline and then his main personality came back online."

"If only we could merge our personalities." She suddenly sighed, the sigh fading into the silence, as the wind blew a strand of hair that had slipped out of her hair tie from outside the window.

This surprised Lu Mingfei. He looked into Tasia's eyes, which were neither bright nor dark. He didn't read any fear in them, but rather seriousness and loneliness. She genuinely felt that way.

"Aren't you afraid of disappearing?" Lu Mingfei asked.

"What do you mean by disappearing? We were originally one, just like the same consciousness was cut into several parts. Even if you use phenomenological equipment to look at us, the life essence is still the same mass." Tasia rolled her eyes at him.

"Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu?!" Lu Mingfei felt he understood. Tasia's split personality was like the Shadow Clone Jutsu in Naruto. Even if the clones had different personalities, they were still another side of the original body, and were ultimately one person.

"What shadow clone? What are you talking about?" As if an invisible question mark appeared above Tasia's head.

"It's a story from my side..." Lu Mingfei gave a brief explanation of Naruto and then went into detail about the Shadow Clone system. Tasia listened attentively; it was a novel world.

"Hey, that's a pretty fitting concept. It just means we don't have a way to get rid of this 'shadow clone' yet," Tasia said. "But what you're talking about... Naruto? That's quite interesting. I feel like you could try drawing it here."

"Forget it, it's too long. It's fine to tell you, but my hand will break if I draw it." Lu Mingfei shook his head. Not to mention that he had no intention of becoming a plagiarist or had any talent for drawing, the sheer volume of Naruto would take several years to draw.

"Then tell me in detail." Tasia's eyes suddenly lit up, as if stars were shining in them.

"Huh? Now?" The story was too long, and Lu Mingfei had only read it once, so he subconsciously wanted to refuse.

"Hmm, otherwise who knows when we'll be able to come out again next time." Her eyes were still sparkling.

Lu Mingfei fell silent. Looking at the girl's expectant eyes, he gave up. Although the story was long, Lu Mingfei wasn't one to spoil the fun. He coughed twice and said mysteriously, "Once upon a time, there was a demon fox that plagued the human world! It had nine tails..."

Tasia listened intently, her notebook in hand, but her writing continued without pause. The wind outside the window grew stronger, rustling the old trees and making a soft, rhythmic sound as if keeping time for the story.

When Lu Mingfei recounted how Naruto first learned the Summoning Jutsu but summoned tadpoles, Tasia couldn't help but chuckle softly, like a feather brushing against the surface of water. When she spoke of Sasuke leaving Konoha, her expression darkened again, and her fingers unconsciously twisted the hem of her clothes.

As night deepened and the village lights came on one by one, Lu Mingfei's mouth was parched. The water that had been sitting on the table for a long time finally entered his mouth, like sweet rain.

"...That's enough for today." Tasia glanced out the window. "It's too late."

Her eyes appeared exceptionally clear in the moonlight, as if they were filled with a spring of water.

"Thank you," she said softly. "It's been a long time since I've spoken to anyone like this."

Lu Mingfei didn't know how to respond, so he just nodded.

She stood up and walked to the window. Moonlight shone on her, giving her simple shirt and vest a silver edge. The wind blew her golden hair, and the strands danced in the light like some kind of slowly burning flame.

"If we meet again next time," she said, her back to him, "then continue telling me, okay?"

"Okay." Lu Mingfei didn't understand why, but he still agreed.

She turned around, a faint smile appearing on her usually cold face. Then, as if a candle flame had been blown out by the wind, the light in her eyes suddenly faded, her body swayed, and she reached out to hold onto the windowsill.

When he looked up again, his eyes had changed, returning to the gentle look that Lu Mingfei was familiar with.

"Lu Mingfei?" Tasia looked around blankly, not understanding why she had suddenly ended up standing in front of the window.

Lu Mingfei looked at her and suddenly understood what it meant to suddenly go online.

Tasia looked back and saw that it was already late. Suddenly realizing something, she turned to look at Lu Mingfei and asked, "Am I...?"

Before she could finish speaking, Lu Mingfei nodded seriously.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't expect it to happen so suddenly." Tasia clasped her hands together in apology. Noticing the broken wooden stick beside her, fear immediately showed on her face. She quickly walked to Lu Mingfei's side, looking him over with concern, and asked, "Are you alright? They don't know you, so they might do something agitated."

"It's nothing." Lu Mingfei looked at Tasia somewhat awkwardly: "Actually... you've never hit me."

Upon hearing this, Tasia immediately squatted down, covering her face with her hands. "Oh, what a mess this is!" Her voice was a mixture of embarrassment and helplessness. After a long while, she finally lifted her head from between her fingers, her cheeks slightly flushed. "Did anything else happen?"

"No, I explained things to her and then we just chatted casually," Lu Mingfei said.

Tasia glanced out the window and exclaimed in surprise, "You two have been talking for so long!"

"It's a long story," he said, giving a relaxed smile. "But before that, you should probably take a look at your diary."

Tasia felt in her pocket, took out the leather notebook, and flipped to the latest few pages. Her eyes quickly scanned the handwriting, and her expression changed from confusion to realization.

"It seems you two get along quite well." She closed her notebook, breathed a sigh of relief, then, remembering something, asked, "How was the experience of turning into a ghost?"

"How should I put it? It's like being broken down and then reassembled; it feels quite magical," Lu Mingfei thought for a moment.

"You're mostly right, that's roughly the idea. My potential, simply put, is to quantize the human body and then project and reassemble it over a long distance using a teleportation device." Tasia walked to the kitchen doorway. "But it's lunchtime now, do you want to eat? Perfect timing, your dream of a hundred families to share a meal can now be fulfilled."

"How did you know?" Lu Mingfei looked at her in shock.

"Jiuge told me," Tasia said casually, taking an apron from a hook and putting it on. She turned back and smiled, "I didn't mean to laugh at you. Your dream is quite interesting."

Lu Mingfei didn't expect the news to spread so quickly. He was sure he'd be laughed at. But then he thought, if everyone knew, maybe this dream could really come true. So he cheered up again.

He stood up and called towards the kitchen, "Tasia, do you need any help?"

"No need, my kitchen is small, it would be too crowded if you came." Tasia's voice sounded muffled through the glass door of the kitchen.

Lu Mingfei didn't insist. He glanced around and saw that the place was simply furnished with books everywhere, especially on the shelves, which were neatly arranged, befitting a researcher. However, Lu Mingfei was disappointed that there were no game consoles. In this respect, Boss Bai's place was much better. As for reading, he had already read enough books in the literary society back then and didn't want to touch them at all now.

With nothing to do, Lu Mingfei tidied up the table, placing the kettle and cups on one corner. Now all he had to do was wait.

"Come on, let's eat." Not long after, Tasia came out of the kitchen. Lu Mingfei couldn't see how she managed to carry two dishes and a soup at the same time.

Dinner was simple: stir-fried green peppers with pork, cucumber salad, and a tomato and egg drop soup.

"I didn't prepare much food at home, it can't compare to what Boss Bai makes, please don't mind." Tasia untied her apron and hung it on the chair next to her, then sat down opposite Lu Mingfei.

"No, it smells delicious." Lu Mingfei didn't pay attention. Although the dishes were indeed simple, the aroma still whetted his appetite.

Lu Mingfei first scooped up a bowl of tomato and egg drop soup, which was perfect for whetting his appetite. He took a sip, and the warm, sour aroma felt like a warm thread that slid from his throat all the way to his stomach. Then, the warmth spread like ripples through his cold body.

"It's delicious!" Lu Mingfei's eyes lit up. This was a completely different flavor from Boss Bai and Jiu Ge. Were all the people in Longgu Village good at cooking? It felt like every restaurant he had eaten at had excellent culinary skills.

"I'm glad you like it." Tasia was satisfied with Lu Mingfei's reaction and started eating herself.

Tasia didn't eat much; she was used to eating less at night so she could sleep better. But gradually, she noticed that there were fewer and fewer dishes on the table, and when she looked up, she saw that Lu Mingfei was picking up food without slowing down.

Is it really that delicious? Tasia stared blankly at the food until Lu Mingfei finished it all, leaving only a plate still covered in a little oil.

"Are you... full?" Tasia asked hesitantly, her tone carrying a subtle hint of apology.

She had originally planned to heat up the leftovers for breakfast the next morning, but looking at the CD, she began to doubt whether she had made too little.

Upon hearing this, Lu Mingfei, who was still hungry, suddenly realized that he was at Tasia's house and no one except Boss Bai knew about his recent changes in appetite.

Lu Mingfei's face suddenly burned. He glanced embarrassedly at Tasia's bowl and saw that she still had rice left, while he had finished all his food. It was too shameful.

"I... um..." Lu Mingfei opened his mouth, unsure how to explain.

Seeing Lu Mingfei's embarrassment, Tasia laughed and said, "Don't feel bad, it just means my cooking skills are not bad."

Knowing that Tasia was trying to comfort him, Lu Mingfei gave up trying to explain. However, he suddenly remembered that he hadn't told Boss Bai that he wouldn't be home for dinner tonight.

He turned sharply and looked out the window. On the distant cave wall, a blurry figure stood outside, seemingly waiting for someone.

"It's over," Lu Mingfei thought to himself.
