Chapter 62 Rooster? What kind of folk remedy is this?

Colin's camera incident completely ignited Hogwarts, setting the young wizards' gossipy spirits ablaze.

Although Dumbledore tried to suppress the news, rumors spread like wildfire that a first-year student had almost been petrified. Coupled with Lowe's brilliant "Illumination Charm" in the hallway, everyone knew something big had happened that night. In the following days, everyone was talking about the mysterious "Slytherin heir."

For Rowe, this meant the war had begun.

He began attending classes fully equipped. A frying pan was always hidden under his robe, and a leather pouch filled with an unknown powder hung at his waist.

"Love, could you please stop walking down the hallway like a Stalker?" Hermione muttered exasperatedly. She was carrying a stack of books and trying to keep up with Love's inconsistent pace.

"Stay alert, Elf Princess."

"That 'successor' is still lurking in the shadows. I can sense a high level of hatred here."

"That's Filch glaring at you," Ron muttered.

"Let him be," Lowe waved his hand dismissively. "We have more important tasks. Professor Binns, he's one of the longest-living beings in this castle. He must know the secrets of the First Age."

"You mean...you're going to history class?" Ron's eyes widened. "But Rowe, this is our Gryffindor class, and you're a Hufflepuff..."

"For the sake of intelligence, the lines between factions can be blurred." Lowe straightened his collar confidently and strode towards the history of magic classroom. "Besides, who's going to notice one more student?"

Professor Tombins's lectures were universally acknowledged as "deep sleep time" for the entire university. This ghostly professor, reciting the days of the goblin rebellion in his monotonous, tedious voice, was more effective than any powerful sleeping pill.

But today is different.

When Professor Binns entered the classroom through the blackboard, he was surprised to find all the students sitting upright, every pair of eyes fixed on him.

"Uh... good morning." Professor Binns blinked his dead fish eyes. "Today we're going to talk about... the 1289 General Conference of the International Confederation of Wizards..."

"Professor!" Hermione raised her hand high.

Professor Binns looked at her in surprise: "You are...?"

"Granger, Professor. I'd like to know if you could tell us about the Chamber of Secrets?" Hermione asked clearly and directly.

The classroom fell silent instantly.

Professor Binns was clearly caught off guard by the question. He tried to brush it off, but under the watchful eyes of the entire class, he eventually gave in.

"Alright," Professor Binns said slowly, "since you're so eager to know...about the legend of the Chamber of Secrets."

He began to recount the history of the four great masters of Hogwarts, the disagreements between Slytherin and the other three, and the hidden room he left behind before he departed.

"...Slytherin sealed the Chamber of Secrets until his true successor arrived at the school. Only the successor could open the Chamber, unleash its horrors, purify the school, and eliminate all those unworthy to learn magic."

"Someone unworthy to learn magic?" Hermione's voice trembled slightly. "You mean...?"

“Those who don’t have Númenor blood,” Rowe suddenly interjected, “are, in the words of those dark wizards, ‘inferior humans,’ or—” He paused, wrinkling his nose in disgust, “that damned insult.”

Professor Binns frowned (if ghosts could frown): "That's just a legend, Baggins. Although I don't agree with that distinction. And how did you end up in Gryffindor? I remember you were..."

"What's in there?" Ron interrupted just in time, asking the question everyone was most concerned about, "What is that terrifying thing?"

"Legend has it that it's a monster that Slytherin specifically left behind," Professor Binns said. "It's said that only Slytherin's heir can control it."

The whole class gasped in shock.

A red warning box popped up on Luo Wei's system interface.

"The dwarves dug too deep and were too greedy."

"They awakened that ancient fear beneath the mountains: shadow and fire."

Professor Binns looked at him, puzzled. "I don't think this has anything to do with dwarves, Mr. Baggins. It's a legend about wizards."

"These are different versions of the same story, Keeper of the Secrets." Rowe looked at Professor Binns seriously. "Slytherin wasn't expelled because of bloodline beliefs; he was expelled for trying to raise a Balrog in the school's underground! That was a biological weapon prepared for war!"

A murmur rippled through the classroom. Everyone thought Lowe had gone mad, but the word "Flame Demon" certainly sounded more concrete, scarier, and cooler than "monster"!

After class, the trio squeezed into a corner of the corridor.

"Love, do you really think it's... Balrog?" Hermione didn't believe Love, but she was quite frightened. "The books say it's an ancient demon."

"Or some kind of dragon." Rowe was marking possible entrances on his "battle map." "If it's a Balrog, we'll need fire-resistant potions, lots of them. If it's a dragon, we'll need black arrows. If it's some kind of giant spider... we'll need light."

"Why a spider?" Ron asked in alarm. "Don't scare me, Rowe."

Luo Wei didn't answer, but suddenly stopped and pointed out the window.

"look."

On the wall outside the window, a long string of black things was moving. Recently, a spider had appeared, crawling towards the Forbidden Forest.

"They're running away."

"Like a spider in a dark forest fleeing the shadow of a necromancer. Ron, the thing you fear most is running for its life, which means that 'thing' is a million times more terrifying than a spider."

Ron's face turned deathly pale: "Ten thousand times more terrifying than a spider?"

“Nature’s warning system never fails.” Rowe turned to the two of them. “Listen, we’re going to the library. Now that the heir has unleashed the monster, we need to find its weakness before it turns us to stone or ashes.”

"What are we looking for?" Harry asked.

"Investigate the history of this school."

"Find out who has the ability to control monsters. Also... find out where I can buy enough mirrors and roosters."

"A rooster?" Hermione was completely bewildered. "What kind of folk remedy is this?"

"That's common sense, Hermione," Lowe said with a straight face, spouting nonsense. "In ancient legends, certain dark creatures fear the messengers of dawn. If I'm not mistaken, we might need a loud-mouthed rooster. Or an alchemical artifact that can mimic a rooster's crow."
